Fluids and Fiber - TMI story but important
Oregondaisy replied to DownInSocal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yeah, that sounds like a really good thing-fiber gummies. although since having the gall bladder out, I have not had a problem. It's nice. -
would any of these work in place of Nexium mups?
Oregondaisy replied to Tracy46545's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love the generic Protonix. I took it before surgery as well. My dr. prescribes it for me to take it twice a day, but I only take it in the morning. That way, I get 60 for $10 -

Hair Loss post-op
Oregondaisy replied to learned2bskinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used it. I started using it right before surgery and up until my hair starting falling out and realizing it didn't make much difference, other than making my hair really dry. I used the shampoo, the conditioner and the scalp treatment. -
If you want to go with frozen foods, there are lots of good things from lean cuisine, WW, or Healthy choice. I usually eat the meat and veggies and I don't buy anything that has rice or noodles that are too hard to pick out.

Officially lost 100lbs
Oregondaisy replied to Tiffykins's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am pretty close to reaching 100 lbs myself. Yay sleeve. I have about 3 more to go. It was only 2, but then Thanksgiving came and caused me to gain a lb. back. Right? It was Thanksgiving's fault, not mine!? -

You know, I have been wanting to try fish oil because everyone says it's so good for you. Does it make you burp up a weird taste? That's the only reason I have never taken them. I can't imagine burping up fish oil. It would have to be gross -

The generic name for the one I take (protonnix) is Pantoprazole and it costs me $10. I know it's comparable to Nexium . -
1 Week out- Need some advice--
Oregondaisy replied to Angela77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am surprised to read that some doctors move people right into foods with no liquid stage at all. I guess if the doctor says that is what is okay to do, we are not doctors so who are we to argue. I was told that putting food whether they are soft or not, would put stress on the staple line. I would say follow doctor's orders and if you have any questions, call your doctor and ask in detail to have your questions answered. -
Hair Loss post-op
Oregondaisy replied to learned2bskinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's very normal. People have reported upping their Protein, taking Biotin or extra Vitamins, taking special hair and nails vitamins, using nioxin shampoo etc. It just seems to be something that comes with WLS. You can try anything that you think may help, but mostly everyone has said it stops when it wants to. It usually is the worst at month 4 and gradually decreases. Let me know if you find anything that helps. -
Yes! isn't that great! Dan, I think you made the right decision. I am really happy with the sleeve. I just lost another 5 lbs without even trying. Maintaining weight loss with the sleeve has been effortless for me.

its the night before surgery and all through the house...
Oregondaisy replied to joon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most people become lactose intolerant after the sleeve. You can have skim milk if you tolerate it okay, after moving to full liquid. -

Are you on an acid blocker? VSG patients are supposed to be on an acid blocker for the first 6 months. -
I love steak. I have no trouble at all eating it. I eat enough of it to be completely satisfied. Yum Yum!

I am glad the two of you had each other for support. It's really nice when people from this board are able to connect with each other. I wish I had been that lucky. I hope you and Joon have a speedy recovery and don't mind the post op diet too much. -

Popcorn anyone?
Oregondaisy replied to Thinn Again's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, you can chew it up until it's really nothing in your mouth! -
Popcorn anyone?
Oregondaisy replied to Thinn Again's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat popcorn every single time I go to the movies. Popcorn is one of the easiest things to go down. If you're not worried about the scale, I say go for it! -
All I can tell you is that bypass has a much higher incident of regain. When they cut the stomach on bypass they use a different part of the stomach. The sleeve stomach is made from a part of the stomach that is not stretchy-it's muscular. Besides that, you're looking being vigilant the rest of your life with taking Vitamins and supplements because of the malabsorption issue you have to take into account with bypass.

Sensations in eating feeling unnatural and unpleasant still!
Oregondaisy replied to LAN2k's topic in Food and Nutrition
Everyone is really different. It's really hard to say. I have a friend who had her sleeve surgery a week after I did, by the same surgeon. She is nauseous a lot and has a really hard time drinking. I had a period of nausea, but it didn't last. I can drink a lot of Water, but I never really try to drink anything else. She says water is the one thing that makes her the most nauseous. I drink a lot of Protein drinks, because I really worry about my protein intake. I took a really long time to transition into solids, because it was difficult, like you are saying. 2-3 bites and I was done. It really didn't bother me, because the Protein Drinks were really satisfying to me. Just keep checking in here and try not to get depressed about it. There are more people who are not so new at surgery at Obesity Help. -
Otay -- tell me about the sleeve
Oregondaisy replied to Manatee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am glad I never liked egg nog. It's pretty common for this surgery to cause lactose intolerance so that could very well be the case. you're right. This is so much better than living with a band! -
protein shakes-I'm going to starve!
Oregondaisy replied to lucygoose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
People seem to say that all the time. I really wish that was the case for me! -
Really, it does not matter what you eat. You won't be able to eat much of it, so eat what you want to eat. I can eat part of a McDonalds cheeseburger. That's a little one, not a Big Mac. I just had a soft taco from taco bell. I could eat the whole thing. I used to eat a lot of fast food, but I don't anymore. I still eat out a lot, but I am pretty limited to what I order, cause I know I am going to take 3/4 of it home.

It really is so much fun. The gift of wearing normal sizes is so wonderful. I have been taking ball room dance classes. I quickly noticed that none of the women that go to the dances are in the least bit overweight. These dance classes have opened up a whole new world for me. People who are not overweight and never have been, do not understand at all what we go through.
