    Hair Loss post-op

We should be absorbing nutrients from our food because we haven't changed our anatomy like gastric bypass patients. Are intestines are as normal as someone who has not had WLS. I did notice in my chart notes when I had my recent gall bladder surgery that I was slightly anemic. I am going to ask my pcp about it when I see him. I have also read that anemia does cause hair loss. Did you know prunes are high in Iron?

    Hey...another newbie here!

Are you on an acid reducer? Most of the surgeons put us all on an acid reducer for at least 6 months.

Somebody come to the chat room and let's start chatting!
  4. I am really happy for you Susan! You have worked really hard and went through so much with that band, you SO deserve this. Everybody should be in onederland! It's a great place to be, and everybody here will be there someday. Yay VSG the greatest WLS ever!

    avocados...

Hope I am excited for you that tomorrow is tuesday. There are a lot of foods you can have on the mushie stage. You'll be happy, and hopefully you'll be able to eat more than 3 bites!
  6. Anyone who wants to talk, most of us are willing to private message our telephone numbers. Having the band removed and getting my sleeve was the smartest thing I could have done for my health. I love having a tiny stomach, getting full on small amounts, and not feeling hungry! Another good way to learn is to come into the chat room. We are getting more and more people coming in during the evenings, and we are all very willing to gladly answer questions.
  7. Thank you so much for posting your story. My heart just breaks for you. I am sending healing thoughts your way that you are home with your children and family soon, well and healthy! Please keep us posted on how you are doing as you progress. We will all be worried about you!

    man food

You'll be able to eat those things, but you will not be able to eat very much of it. If you eat the meat, you will definitely not be able to eat much potato, or side dishes. Do you know what size sleeve your surgeon makes? Some do make bigger ones, and people say they can eat a lot more.
  9. I was told that we do not absorb calcium carbonate. I don't know why. I will be glad to hear what your doctor has to say about this. I eat them because they taste good, and I hope I am absorbing some calcium from them. I also take calcium citrate chewables though. I hope the dr. you are going to ask is a bariatric doctor because I don't think regular general doctors know too much about bariatric surgery patients.

    Hair Loss post-op

Yes, that is how much I have lost too. I did notice this morning when I was combing it out after my shower that I had some little hairs about 1" coming in at the top of my head.

    Do I really look "sick"?

Tiffy I think you look fabulous! Do you think once you get to your goal you will keep losing because you have had trouble with slowing down the loss so you don't keep losing over 2 lbs a week? I know mac had trouble with maintenance and figuring out how to stop losing once she got to where she wanted to be. I don't have that trouble at all because I have such a sweet tooth and a lot of head hunger even when I am really full. I wish that was not the case.
  12. I had to stay away from anywhere there was going to be food when I was on the liquid diet. I just didn't want to temp myself. I live alone so it was easy to stay on the liquid diet at home, and I didn't trust myself to watch oher people eat, so I just didn't do it.

    Hair Loss post-op

I just read something in the paper that said if we are iron deficient, it can cause hair loss. That is one thing I don't take. I have problems with my liver, and taking iron can be dangerous for me.
  14. I thought those spring valley were calcium carbonate not calcium citrate. did you read the bag and it said citrate? I would love to find them in the citrate but my bag of spring valley definitely says calcium carbonate.

    cooking for one?

I am finding it very hard to read the posts when people don't put spaces or breaks in between paragraphs. When the entire post is one long paragraph, I lose my place and I can't read it.

    slight setback

Norma, You'll definitely be in my thoughts too. Hope for a speedy recovery! Just think, while you're off work, you'll have more time to come to the chat room!

Tiffy! You are skinny! Way to go! I know it was difficult for you in the beginning with all the complications, but it's all paid off. You look so fabulous!

Slipped Band...What to do now? (bit long)

If I were you I would get the band removed and get sleeved. I hated the band and living with it was a night mare. Living with the sleeve is effortless for me. I eat small portions of anything i want and never have any problems at all. I hope the slipped band does not cause your stomach a problem so you can get a sleeve. I am really sorry to hear about your son. I am sure that had to be extremely stressful.

    come into the chat room!

I'll be in sometime tonight but I want to watch the barbara walters 10 most fascinating people. I find if I keep my lap top on, I never watch what I want to watch, so I have to keep it turned off if there is anything I do want to watch.

    trouble with stitch infected

You will love Dr. Aceves and the hospital, and all the nurses. They treat you like royalty there. I loved it there. I loved how Sergio (one of the nurses) came in and visited me several times every day asking if there was anything at all that he could do to make me more comfortable. Then he went and got Dr. Campos' cell phone and lap top for me to use. Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos also come to see you 3 times per day. It's great there!
  23. I take the generic of Protonix. I have absolutely no side effects what so ever. I have tried not to take it. I don't get heartburn, but I get a stomach ache. I see no reason to stop it. I may try again later on down the road try to stop taking it, just to see if I still need it. I should add that my regular doctor wants me on it, not Dr. Aceves who did my surgery. I am going to ask my surgeon who removed my gall bladder about this. He is also the doctor who did my band surgery and I adore him. It certainly was not his fault that bands suck.

    I have an anouncement!!!!!

Congratulations Chancie! you'll be at goal before you know it. I am so happy for you!
  25. The only thing I drink is Water. Once in awhile I drink propel. I drink at least 64 oz of water per day. I never drink it cold. I like room temp water. The waitresses always look at me like I am nuts when I go out to eat and say water with no ice. I would go crazy if I didn't drink all my water. I am always sipping water from the time I get up until I go to bed. I seem to be the odd one.Everyone else can't tolerate sweets anymore and I really love them and have to force myself to stay away from them.
