Diane, Are you sure you are cutting your food up into very tiny bites and chewing very well? Those of us who were banded first, learned this already. You have to chew your food into a liquid consistency. You also have to wait in between bites to let things settle. Eating fast is not comfortable.

Speak up those with leaks & infections!
Oregondaisy replied to Can.sleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Let's just see if this gets deleted too. I am not posting nearly as much as I used to on this board because of this. As much as I dislike OH's software, at least when somebody posts that Dr. Bettencourt isn't really even a doctor, the thread does not get deleted. -
Speak up those with leaks & infections!
Oregondaisy replied to Can.sleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry but that's the way Alex wants it. We aren't allowed to discuss people who have had serious complications or he will delete the thread because the doctor is one of his paid advertisers. -
Don't worry. The sleeve will not let you overeat. It's extremely uncomfortable when you eat too much and you will learn quickly not to do it. That does not mean occasionally I eat some chocolate. My portions at meal times are so small that it doesn't seem to matter if I have a treat now and then. Another things is sugar makes me nauseous now. I can eat a little bit, but anymore than that, I feel sick! It's great, really.

If you had a leak, you would be Dr. Aceves first one, so I really doubt that it is what is causing you the burning. Don't forget he did 3 leak tests before you left the hospital. I hope you feel better soon and I am sure this is a natural part of healing.

There are a bunch of us who are band to sleeve revisions. We are all extremely happy to have the band out and living with the sleeve is effortless. I am glad most of my stomach is gone. All it did was make me fat. Getting rid of that band was the best thing I could have done for myself.

Beginning to eat solids (suggestions?)
Oregondaisy replied to pastorgregumc's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
You may have eaten too much without realizing it. When you are first moving to solids, you need to just eat a few bites and sit with it awhile and see how it's going to get along with your new tummy. -
yeah, it's normal. I can remember when I could only eat a few bites. I was like Tiffy. I drank protein shakes or soft foods because eating solid protein was just too difficult. Now that I am almost a year post op, I do eat anything I want in small portions. I still can't eat a very big portion of meat, and I am fine with that. I eat until I am full and I know that if I eat more, I will be uncomfortable.

Need some third party opinions/advice
Oregondaisy replied to TennJenn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Have you heard of body dysmorphic (sp?)disorder? It's when you're at a healthy weight but still see yourself as fat. Anyway, I think your body will stabilize at a weight it's happy with. As long as you don't feel like you're starving yourself and you're eating healthy, you're doing fine! -
to tell or not to tell your pcp
Oregondaisy replied to stcyt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm afraid to tell mine too. I know if my insurance company finds out, they will do whatever they have to do to blame WLS on anything and not cover it. -
Am I hungry, or do I think I'm hungry??
Oregondaisy replied to achopp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does take awhile for the ghrelin to leave your body. yes it will be easier when you move to mushies. Is your tummy growling or is it just a feeling of "that sounds really good" The diarrhea is very normal if you're on a liquid diet. you can take immodium if it gets bad. -
I don't like it. It's very gritty. I like Peanut Butter flavored sf syrups much better. I have Davinci and Torrini brands and I put them in my Protein shakes. I would suppose there are other things you can do with PB2. Supposedly they have recipes on their website and you can mix it with Water and make peanut butter out of it. I just buy reduced fat peanut butter. I will be curious what others have to say about it.

I used GNC's brand of unflavored protein powder and I thought it was great. -

I hope people will speak up. This information needs to be available to anyone researching a surgeon. -
Newbie needs advice, please
Oregondaisy replied to Mommydog14's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you should go to lapbandtalk.com and read the complications section. Believe me, the band is a nightmare to live with. The sleeve is effortless. I am glad my anatomy is forever changed. I don't ever want to be fat again. -
What to expect during the first couple of weeks . . .
Oregondaisy replied to Catyroses's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like everyone else said, for the most part it would be good to have the food ready for the rest of the family. It can be difficult to watch others eat when you're on the post op diet. I would not order a bunch of any Protein drinks in large quantities. Most people said their taste for things completely changed after surgery. Go and check out the link in the food section on places to get samples. You also may want to get some unflavored Protein powder for the post op diet that you can mix with crystal lite, sf Hawaiian punch, sf Koolaide, sf poweraide, etc. Also be sure to have some sf popsicles on hand. Once you move to full liquids you can have soup, sf pudding, and usually doctors will allow yogurt at this stage. I was not sore at all once I was home from the hospital. I just needed to be close to a restroom. The liquids in, liquids out causes diarrhea and sometimes it comes rather suddenly. For most people, the post op recovery is easier than they expected. There are people who are very nauseous at first, but those people are in the minority. If that happens, be sure to get a prescription from your doctor for nausea medication. That is when people get dehydrated which causes all sorts of other problems, if they are too nauseous to drink their liquids. -
Daily Calorie Total for those of you 6+ months out
Oregondaisy replied to ash's topic in Food and Nutrition
Tiffy don't you worry about a thing. It will all even out in the end when your body finds it's happy weight.Just eat what you want! -
The weight surgery is a true blessing. When I was heavy, I had profiles all over the online dating sites and was completely ignored. Even when I had lost most of my weight, my face still looked really fat in pictures. It wasn't until I lost that last 10 lbs that both of these guys responded to my profile on one of those sites. It was within a few days of each other that they contacted me. I started writing to both of them, thinking one of them would just disappear, cause that is what always happened in the past. But then both of them wanted to meet me, and now here I am, with both of them still wanting to go out. I don't feel close enough to either of them or feel like they feel that this is serious. That's why I want to wait and see how things develop. It does feel really good since I was so fat for so long, but still had the desire for a man in my life. I felt rejected for so long and it hurt when I would send someone a message on one of the sites and would either hear nothing back or get a "thanks but no thanks response"
-
Let me make it clear that I am not sleeping with either one of them. I would not do that. I don't really see it as one of them will get dumped. I think it will come to a point where one or actually both of them will realize we are not right for each other.
-
Thanks. I kind of feel like that too. Neither of them has asked if I am seeing someone else. They just assume I'm not. So far, they have not asked me out of the same night, so that part has worked out fine. One has two kids that he sees every other weekend, and we are not yet at the point where we feel the need for me to be introduced to them and that's fine with me. I really like spending time with both of them, and I would much rather see one of them if they ask, than sit home and do nothing. Watching tv gets old. I am going to keep this up until either I see it as a problem, or I decide I really don't like one of them. It's hard not to feel guilty though.
-
I hate to say it but I was afraid this was what would end up happening. My counts were over 4,000 Pancreatitis is almost always caused by gall bladder problems. I am glad you had it out and now you shouldn't have any more problems.

Need creative clear liquid ideas please!
Oregondaisy replied to EdZinVA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I put unflavored protein powder in sf Hawaiian punch, sf kool-aide, sf poweraide and gatoraide. -
I've missed you Cajun! It seems you haven't been posting as much. I have really missed you in chat too. I am glad to read those 18's are getting big. It's so much fun and I am so happy for you!

I post daily over there too. There are some good posts about doctors there and they are not being deleted the way they are here. I do not like the way every time my doctor's name is mentioned, it's hyperlinked so that another doctor's name pops up. Now even the country they practice out of is hyperlinked as well. That doctor must be paying a lot more for advertising.

Need some support ...
Oregondaisy replied to MINI-Me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your body needs a chance to catch up. It's fighting your because 30 lbs in 2 months is a lot of weight to lose that quickly. That's 15 lbs a month! You're doing great! I am sure your eating had to be a little off cause on vacation you can't eat like you can at home. Don't worry! The rest will come off. Watch your carb intake and it will come off and you'll feel great. I still looked really fat in pictures when I lost 75 lbs so I know the camera adds weight to us.
