Speak up those with leaks & infections!
Oregondaisy replied to Can.sleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may think he is great, and I am glad you didn't have any complications. Unfortunately most of the people who did post about their serious complications had their posts deleted so the whole story is not on this board. -
I went to Dr. Aceves in Mexico and self paid. Dr. Aceves is a very good surgeon, and although some people don't believe it, he has never had any complications from sleeve surgery. I would not hesitate to recommend him, and over half the members on this board have gone to him and would say the same thing.

It's very common for people who have had WLS to need their gall bladder out. I am glad I had mine out. I have never had that kind of pain in my life, when I had that gall bladder attack that sent me to the ER. At 2 1/2 weeks, I was still on liquids. I wouldn't eat pudding and mashed potatoes. Is there a Protein drink that you like? If not, at least make soupy tuna or egg or chicken salad. I am sure there is post op diet for somewhere on here. There is a search feature up at the top and you could look for it that way.

Feeling frustrated...
Oregondaisy replied to angel96049's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If meat is getting stuck, try cutting it up very very tiny. We are talking the size of a pencil eraser. Chew it up until it's liquid and there is nothing left to chew. Then wait and see how it sits before taking another bite. That is what I had to do when I was only 3 months post op. I could only eat one chicken leg, but I had to eat it really slowly taking itty bitty bites. Tiffy is right. Greek yogurt is a great source of Protein. If you buy the plain, make sure you put splenda in it or get some sf syrups that they put in coffee to flavor it. -

Oregondaisy replied to Can.sleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really appreciate everyone who contributes to this thread. It is very important that anyone who is going to have this surgery be very well informed and I am very glad that Stoongals' post has not been deleted the way other posts have been in the past. I know some people have had a very good experience with this clinic and doctor, but people need to be aware that this is not always the case. -
Yea, that's why I am glad they come in 100 calorie packs. The box is expensive and I am cheap, so I would never eat more than one bag (100 calories) per day.

I get the cocoa dusted almonds in 100 calorie packs at walmart. I had read about them for a long time, but never could find them. I was really thrilled when Walmart started carrying them.

Snappy comebacks for rude comments about WLS
Oregondaisy replied to educationrulz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love all these comments! It's too bad I can't use them since I choose not to tell people I had surgery. I knew all those comments would come and that's why I made the decision and I have never regretted it. Weight loss was a lot slower for me since I was banded first, but I know it's a shock to people who haven't seen me in a long time. I hope all you who are newly sleeved can learn to deal with all these rude people, cause the weight is going to be falling off! -
My thoughts from Week #2 Post-Op - Little Miss Sunshine has left the building!
Oregondaisy replied to VV2010's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Just keep repeating to yourself "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels" Plateaus or stalls are very normal and you can't even let yourself go to that place of getting down about it. Our bodies just freak out when it starts losing too quickly. Getting to goal takes a little longer for some people, but for the most part, if you're not grazing and eating junk food, goal is just a matter of time. -
If you're going to eat almonds, you have to count them. 10 almonds, 100 calories. I eat them all the time. I have gotten hooked on 100 calorie packs of cocoa dusted almonds. yum yum. Dr. Oz recommends everyone eat almonds every day. they are a good healthy snack, and good for your good cholesterol. You just can't eat too many.

Don't worry about a thing! Go in and read my posts about dating 2 guys at the same time! Believe me, I know exactly how you feel. I was on so many online dating sites for so long and was rejected time and time again. Now I have 2 guys who want to make a long term commitment to me and I don't want to give either one of them up. Just concentrate on yourself right now. When the weight comes off, you'll be having the time of your life!

Anyone want to chat tonight?
Oregondaisy replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Where are all the folks who like to talk? I would love to chat with someone! -
Hope this doesn't embarrass anyone. I have to be frank here. I had no trouble with orgasms when I was younger. Now that I am past menopause, it seems like my clitoris has no feeling! I get turned on, but I don't even come close to having an orgasm. I know we have some ladies here past the age of 50 who have gone through menopause like me, so does anyone else experience this? Somebody told me to go to the dr. and ask for testosterone, but my doctor will probably freak out. Doctors are all freaked out about hormones these days.

I have a lot of muscle. I work out at the gym 6 days a week. I don't eat anywhere close to 700 calories.I'd say I eat about 1500 cal per day. I always eat a healthy snack when I get home from the gym. I do eat carbs. I eat healthy carbs though.I don't eat rice bread Pasta, etc. those white carbs. It is possible to have a varied diet eating low carb and pretty low fat with plenty of Protein.

Mini You wouldn't believe all the junk I eat constantly. I gained 8 lbs on my Caribbean cruise. I had ice cream more than once a day, a wonderful desert every night called chocolate melting cake, and everything and anything I wanted to eat for 10 days. It took me a week to get back down to goal. The sleeve is the greatest thing. We can mess up and then get back to our regular eating habits and the small portions our sleeve allows and we don't keep the weight on the way we did before surgery. If I see that I have gained 2 lbs from eating out or going to some party on a weekend, I go right back to what I know works and it's gone the next day. There are speed bumps along the way, but that's all they are. We don't gain weight and keep gaining it unless we constantly graze every day so don't worry about one bad day or even one bad week!

I need some help with a 400 calorie daily intake
Oregondaisy replied to Smelly Melly's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I agree that 400 calories are not enough. If you watch your carbs and eat lean meat and veggies, you don't have to keep your calories that low. I don't know what Protein drink you're using, but all of mine are aroudn 125 140 calories. -
Speak up those with leaks & infections!
Oregondaisy replied to Can.sleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find it a little hard to believe that a nick out of the stomach and a body cavity full of pus is a common complication. Starting surgery at 10 pm seems risky to begin with. Then the aftercare person pulls out the drain and fluids gushed out and this person did not think to call a doctor? That is why so many of us want to be in a real hospital with trained nurses where 2 doctors com to check on the patient 3 times a day. -
Speak up those with leaks & infections!
Oregondaisy replied to Can.sleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If this Donna's post gets deleted, it will be a tragedy. People need to know these facts. This is a first hand experience which people have been asking for, in order to have a clear understanding of what can possibly go wrong. I can only hope that Donna's honesty will be appreciated by the administrators here. -
I posted not long ago that I am seeing 2 guys at the same time. I thought by now I would be able to decide which one I like better. I like them both! They are different as night and day, and there are things I like about both of them. I don't really care, as long as they don't find out. It's so weird after being so heavy for so long, to have this happen now. good grief, I am 57 years old. I didn't date 2 guys at the same time even when I was a teenager. It's a really small town, and it would be easy for one of them to see me out with the other one. I have to be really careful. The funny part is that they both love to cook. They are always inviting me over for dinner. Neither of them knows about my surgery. Believe me, this is not easy! Oh well, I am going to have fun while it lasts. Who am I to argue when they invite me to a nice restaurant, right?:blushing:

Speak up those with leaks & infections!
Oregondaisy replied to Can.sleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you very much Donna for finally coming forward. I have known about this for a long time but we didn't hear from you or your sister directly so I knew it was not my story to tell. I know you have saved some people from pain and misery by sharing this. -
Flonase or Nasonex anyone post-op
Oregondaisy replied to Tiffykins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Flonase gave me nose bleeds. Isn't that funny that I can use Nasonex without nose bleeds, and Pink Jewels got nose bleeds from that. -
Gaining weight after surgery
Oregondaisy replied to BlaqBeary's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The nutritionist at my support group this evening spoke about calories from Protein and calories from carbs. He said that the weight gain comes because of what carbs do to our insulin and blood sugar. It didn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but I know when I did Atkins, I was eating a ton of calories and I was still losing weight. Back then I could eat a huge steak which is all protein, but was probably 1,000 calories. I gained 8 lbs on my cruise and lost it in a week when I got home and went back to my regular eating habits. I sure do love my sleeve! -
10 month post-op update
Oregondaisy replied to Tiffykins's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You look adorable Tiffy! I agree that it's so much fun wearing dresses and buying clothes these days. I am so glad I found you on this board. You are a blessing in my life! -
You've made the right decision Wendy! Have a safe journey and we will be waiting to hear how you're feeling as soon as you feel up to posting. You're going to love Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos!

Going alone to see Alberto Aceves or......
Oregondaisy replied to tennessee1031's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I am very happy to read about another very happy Dr. Aceves patient. So far on this board, not one person has had a bad experience there!
