Caution for using PPI's
Oregondaisy replied to Itstime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's been almost a week since I went off my PPI. Yesterday I had bad heartburn all day. Today it's not too bad. I hope I can get off of it. I am going to give it 2 weeks to see if the heartburn lessons and my body adjusts. -
How much food can you really eat?
Oregondaisy replied to JillianMarie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can eat one taco or one piece of pizza. If it's something like steak, I can probably eat 3 oz tops. That is just a guess. I think the steak is 6 oz and I can eat 1/3 of it, so maybe it's more like 2 oz. I know I can't eat an entire chicken breast. -
That is true. You are not supposed to take calcium and iron within 2 hours of each other.

I became anemic too. You can get Iron from Vitalady.com which is easier on the stomach. It's called tender iron. I only have to take it once per day though.

Bladder infection post op anyone?
Oregondaisy replied to trish4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Post menopausal women get them because the skin around the area of the urinary tract thins out. -
Bladder infection post op anyone?
Oregondaisy replied to trish4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Trish, I see you live in Phoenix. I am coming to Mesa in June. My dad died and I still have his house there that I have to take care of. Would you be interested in getting together? -
Caution for using PPI's
Oregondaisy replied to Itstime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The difference between a PPI and others is a PPI stops acid from forming or being produced. The others like zantac gets rid of it when you do get it. I am going to try to get off my Protonix. I didn't take it today and my stomach hurt and I felt hungry but I took some tums. I don't think it's going to be all that easy to get off of it. -
Bladder infection post op anyone?
Oregondaisy replied to trish4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a bladder infection right now. I get them frequently. If you truly have one, the cranberry pills won't get rid of it and neither will cranberry juice. You need anitbiotics or it can go into your kidneys. -
Finally got up the courage to see an Otolaryngologist

Glad you finally got some answers to your problem! -
Just a little advice.

yeah, that's what I saw on the news. I didn't take it today. I'll see what happens. -
Wow tiffy, you have way more energy than I do. I envy that. I am not as big of a slug as I used to be, but that does not make me very energetic.

I am going to try taking my protonix every other day and see what happens. I saw something on the news that being on them long term can cause other problems so I am going to see if I can cut down . I've never been able to before, but I'll see what happens. -
5 months post op with exciting news!

I hope to see you back in chat Hope! I'm so glad things are going well for you! -
Yay Mini! Usually when that happens, a couple more lbs will follow right away. That's what happened to me, and then I would go on another stall. It was frustrating, but at least I would drop 4-5 lbs before the next stall started.

I agree that a 48 is pretty big. You definitely want to have confidence in your surgeon. If you're in an area where you have your choice of surgeons, keep searching until you find the one that makes you the most comfortable. You can message anyone on here for information about their surgeon.

Weakness, Short of Breath, Rapid Heartbeat...
Oregondaisy replied to girly.girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are some other protein drinks you could try. Some people like the nectar drinks better than protein shakes. There is a thread in the food section on places to order samples. -
I am not a drinker at all. Last week a friend wanted to go and hear her friend play in a band. I decided to have a drink. I got completely drunk on one drink. I couldn't believe it. So yes, it does it hard and fast.

I can eat too much...?
Oregondaisy replied to ouroborous's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to say that I was one of the people who had no trouble right from the beginning eating or drinking. When I was in the hospital, I really had to force myself not to drink whatever they brought me as fast as I could. I heard about all these people who really struggled to drink. It was the same in the mushy phase. It wasn't until I moved to solids that 3 bites of food and I was totally stuffed. So yes, everyone is different and just be glad you're not struggling. Try to slow down and follow doctors orders about how fast to eat or drink. That's what I did, even though I felt like I could go a lot faster. -
A very good Protein drink can be ordered from netrition.com I believe it's 120 calories and 25 grams of protein. I am not sure of the carb gram but I am sure it's not over 5. It's PVL whey Gourmet Peanut Butter and chocolate. It's very smooth and creamy. Netrition has 4.95 for their shipping no matter how much stuff you order.

they are okay to drink once you are cleared for full liquid. Most people are on clear liquid for a few days first.
-
goodlife, I don't know how you're getting so many carbs from just protein drinks. I am not saying that's bad, cause I agree that you don't have too worry to much on the post op diet. I am just curious because all the protein drinks that I used have about 5 grams of carbs per serving.

Really, your body is just getting used to the idea that it just gave up 17 lbs. You will lose again. I never lost every single week. I would plateau for 2-3 weeks, then the next time I got on the scale, I would be down 5 lbs. You'll lose the weight. Try not to worry.

Just a little advice.
Oregondaisy replied to excited2lose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is definitely a juggling act. It drives me nuts. I take my iron with orange juice cause the pharmacist told me to. He said it needs acid to be absorbed. I have to take one thing or another every 2 hours and it drives me crazy! -
Just a little advice.
Oregondaisy replied to excited2lose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every time I tried to go off my protonix, I feel like I am starving all the time. I don't see any reason to go off of it, but I may try again some day. It's only $10 for the generic, and my pcp prescribes it twice a day, so I get 60 for $10 and I only take it in the morning. -
In Kind of a Funny Place on the Journey...
Oregondaisy replied to Keys Pirate's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Things I snack on are cocoa dusted almonds in the 100 calorie packs, string cheese, low fat colby jack cheese with about 3 kellogs multi grain garlic and herbs crackers, greek yogurt, veggies and dip, part of an apple with peanut butter on it, a protein bar-oh yeah either mint chocolate or peanut butter chocolate. There are 2 sticks in a pack and I will eat one. They taste like Kit Kat bars only better. yum yum.
