I went to Dr Aceves in Mexico. I had the best care there that I have ever received in my life.Go to the doctor section on this board and read about his credentials. He is fabulous!
  2. Bands are a night mare. If you had band problems before, you will again. The sleeve has virtually no aftercare . No fill, no unfills, no food getting stuck,no throwing up, no days where certain foods just won't work. I eat whatever I want and living with the sleeve is effortless. I am with Tiffy on this. You could not pay me to get another band.

Feeling a little frustrated today ......

I am a year out and this is the way I eat steak and chicken. For the most part, I don't cook, cause I live alone. So at home I drink a lot of Protein shakes, lunch meat, Protein Bars, greek yogurt, chicken or egg salad, and these are all soft foods. Dense foods like chicken or steak are things I eat when going out to dinner. Yes, I chew it up until it's just a mushy liquid in my mouth. If I don't,it's going to come back up.

    Hair Loss Question

I am anxious to get my lab results back next friday. I've been eating spinach and avacados which are higher in iron. I still don't eat much red meat , but I have been taking iron for about 6 months now.

Feeling a little frustrated today ......

This is what I was trying to explain. You have to cut solids, or meat up into itty bitty pieces. If you're cutting them up into the size you ate before your surgery, you're going to be in trouble. Cut them up into teeny tiny pieces and then chew them up into nothing. Chew until you can't chew anymore. That's the way you have to eat solid meat.

Feeling a little frustrated today ......

I have to say since I went off my PPI I can't eat as much. It is really weird that an acid blocker would change the amount I can eat. I still do better with mushies than I do with anything else. With meat, you really have to cut it up very tiny. I am talking little slivers of meat and chew them until there is nothing left to chew. Are all of you sure you are taking really tiny bites and chewing enough?
  7. These ocean sprays mix ins- do they have aspertane in them?
  8. I had a revision from band to sleeve and I have had no complications what so ever. I love my sleeve and compared to the band, it's like night and day. There are a lot of band to sleeve revisions on this board and Obesity Help.com and the majority of people have no complications. I know one person who was on liquids practically the entire time she was banded. Every time she tried to eat solids, she threw up. She was on liquids for over a year. Once she was sleeved, she had no comlications.
  9. Lynn, I honestly do not feel deprived in any way. I can eat anything I want and there is no food that does not work with the sleeve, the way certain foods just would not go through the band. I don't miss food getting stuck or pbs or any other issues I had with the band, especially waking up in the middle of the night choking the way I did when I was banded.

    Caution for using PPI's

Gavescon has a different ingredient than tums or rolaids. It comes in liquid and chewable tablets. Dr. Aceves recommended it because he said rolaids or tums cause rebound acid.
  11. I never had problems with water and drank over 64 oz until I went off my PPI. Now the only way I can drink it is warm. It's weird how now I can feel it going down, into my esophagus and into my stomach. It's a very strange feeling which I never had when I was on the PPI.

    Random ?

I work for an attorney very part time and goof off the rest of the time.
  13. Living with the band is a nightmare. Living with the sleeve is effortless. Get that band out and get a sleeve! There are many of us band to sleeve revisions and I don't know anyone who is sorry they did it!

    Caution for using PPI's

I've tried to go off of them before and gave up. The rebound acid goes on for about a week. lately, I have no heartburn all day but have a little bit at night. It's nothing compared to the way it was the first week. I am over the rough spot. I do drink a sip of gavescon if I need to, but haven't needed to lately. You really are supposed to stay on them for 6 months though. I am a year post op, so I decided it was time to stop.

    Nutritionist said just go without?

I had my labs drawn when I was about 9 months post op and I was deficient in a lot of things. I eat a varied diet with protein fruits and veggies. I am now taking iron among other things, even though I was taking a multi all along. I don't agree that we don't need to worry about being vitamin deficient. I just had blood drawn today, and I will find out if I have improved in the areas I was low in.

    Anyone want to chat tonight?

Where are all the chatters? Does anyone want to talk? I will leave the window open just in case! come in and talk!
  17. You will be able to have a Philly cheesesteak. You won't be able to eat the whole thing of course. Honestly, there is nothing that I can't eat. Sometimes I can only eat a few bites of something as filling as that, but I can go back later and eat some more. One thing we do get used to as sleeved people, are leftovers!

    2 Months Yo!

Anna it feels like such a short time ago you wrote to me for information about Dr. Aceves. I am so glad he did your surgery and you are as happy as all of his patients with your sleeve. I wish this had been available to me at your age. You go girl! You're rockin your sleeve!

    Acid Reducers.

For me, my stomach just ached. It wasn't a hungry feeling, although I can see how people would mistake it for a hungry feeling. It's just a gnawing ache. Also, I do get some heartburn that will sometimes turn into nausea. You should be on an acid blocker or reducer for 6 months post op. I was on them for a year, but I am coming off of them now. It's getting easier, but the first few days were not fun.
  20. Tee Kanyes, Dimitrios I hope you are well. I am Greek/American. All my grandparents were born in Greece. You will love your sleeve. Welcome to sleeve talk. Hope to hear your update soon.

    Struggling :(

have you had your Iron levels checked? Being low on iron can also be the cause of hair loss. The nausea should go away in a couple of weeks. In the mean time, keep trying to take sips to stay hydrated.

Is anyone still up? Can anyone talk? I have the window open just in case.

    Struggling :(

Nioxin didn't help my hair loss at all. I used it before surgery and for about 6 months after. I still lost a lot of hair, and all this shampoo did was make my hair really dry.

    ? about Aceves please..

I had the spinal and it was no big deal. They gave me some pill so I couldn't have cared less what they did to me.they put it in right before surgery and took it out in recovery. I had no pain when I woke up and they said it was because of the spinal. It really makes recovery easier and faster. The anesthesiologist will go over all of that with you.
  25. You're welcome! In the beginning, eating is definitely a learning experience.Just go at it slowly and don't try too much too soon. You will get used to what you can eat and how much, if you only stick with a few foods at first before introducing something new.
