Dating and dealing with the sleeve...

I've been dealing with this for awhile now. It really got to be a problem. I finally told the guy I was dating and he was fine with it. I waited until I knew that I was going to be eating a lot of meals with him. I finally got tired of lieing to him. You'll know when the time is right if you want to tell him. If you are entering into a committed relationship, it would seem that he would respect your feelings and not tell others. I have a lot of friends who don't know. I don't tell very many people, that's for sure.

    Consumer Reports/Protein Drinks

I did hear that on Good Morning America today. They also said some foods have the same things too.
  3. I pretty much go by the clock. I really don't feel hungry but I dO get head hunger in the evenings. That is when I tend to snack.

    Day 7: My Protein Struggle

Those protein shots are not a good form of protein but some doctors say that it is better than nothing.
  5. Sorry Stacey, I don't really know what the difference is between gavescon and Tagamet. I know that Gaviscon is an antacid and Tagamet is an acid reducer you take before you eat. The generic name for it is cimetidene.
  6. Dimitrios, You know I feel you are special because we share our Greek heritage. I hope you feel better each day. Try to find some liquid Protein. I know your doctor wants you on liquid, but liquid does not have to mean just plain Water. Your body needs protein to heal!

    Dr. Aceves

If you are having surgery on July 1st, then you will be at the hotel the night before. The hotel is very nice. Dr. Aceves is wonderful and you have nothing to worry about. If they sent you the list of things to take, then you are all set. If you have a lap top, I would take that too.
  9. I am wondering the same thing. I heard on the news that PPIs make it so your bones do not absorb calcium. Since my bone density test showed the beginning of osteoporosis, this really concerned me. However, this acid rebound and heartburn is very concerning to me too. I am going to discuss it with my PCP on friday and maybe taking an acid reducer is the answer, instead of an acid blocker (PPI).

    What am I doing wrong?

It's very common to hit stalls. I hit plenty of them. I never lost weight every single week. Our bodies like to get used to the new weight before it wants to give up anymore lbs. Just keep doing what you're doing and it will come off. Just try not to worry and realize this is normal.
  11. I will be off my PPI three weeks on Wednesday. I am pretty good all day long, but the heartburn gets kind of bad in the evening. I take a little bit of gavescon and it gets rid of it. I have an appt. with my PCP on Friday. I am going to talk to him about all of this. I may ask for a prescription of Tagamet which is what my parents took before dinner. All in all, I think it's getting better, but I didn't expect the heartburn to last this long. Dr. Aceves said it can take 3 months to get off of them with the rebound acid.
  12. Dimitrios, Is this your doctor's diet plan for you for the next 2 weeks? I have never heard of a doctor wanting their patient to only have Water and tea for 2 weeks. Most doctors want their patients to drink some sort of liquid Protein. sending healing thoughts your way!

    Cant decide / please help

it will be worth the wait to get the sleeve and not live in misery with a band. Most ins. companies want you to have a bmi 40 or above to get the sleeve. I wouldn't worry too much about failing with the sleeve. I don't know anyone who has failed with the sleeve. I know a lot of people who don't lose weight with the band. It's a pretty common fact that you will only lose half your excess weight with the band, and complications usually set in by the second year.

Question about post-op dating-for the men and single ladies

Honestly, the guys like it cause when you order food, you hardly order anything. I am in between guys right now, but I can tell you in the last 6 months since I have been maintaining at goal, I am not without someone to date for very long. It's too bad there are so many frogs out there. I have come to realize, if the men are single at my age, there is a reason for it. There are a lot of people who have been divorced about 3 times, and it's cause they don't know how to maintain a relationship.

Question about post-op dating-for the men and single ladies

It's been my experience that men just don't care. I've dated a lot since I was banded and lost most of my weight. Then I was sleeved and lost even more weight. I started online dating as soon as I felt small enough when I was banded. I never told them in the beginning. I just made wise food choices when eating with them. If I could see that I would be eating with them more frequently, I told them. They all basically said the same thing. "that's good that you did that" It probably made you healthier and you sure look good" They never asked whether I would gain weight back. They could see that it was impossible for me to eat a large portion. Being thin and having guys notice me has been so much fun and very rewarding. You'll see soon!
  16. I am afraid to tell you that I've started carrying an extra pair of panties in a discreet little zip lock bag in the trunk of my car. The first time I learned to never trust a fart, I was at the mall away from home about 200 miles. It wasn't pretty. I learned my lesson and I am always prepared now.

    Anyone want to chat tonight?

Did everyone go away for the long weekend? Does anyone want to talk? I have the chat window open.
  19. Nasty! There is no reason to get DS anyway unless you plan to just keep up your old eating habits. Most of us knew how to diet. We could lose weight. We just couldn't keep it off. The sleeve is a miracle without any of the horrible effects of DS or gastric bypass. My daughter had gastric bypass and I worry about her all the time.

Feeling a little frustrated today ......

You're welcome! I am glad to help! I use stevia because it's more natural than any other artificial sweetner. Some people don't have a problem with Splenda, but it gives me horrible gas.

Feeling a little frustrated today ......

For egg tuna or chicken salad, I use Miracle Whip Light and a tiny bit of mustard. You can put eggs in with the chicken salad if you want, but unless you're cleared for solids, I wouldn't put onion or pickles in there yet. It really doesn't matter which brand of Greek yogurt you buy. I just like to buy the plain and add stevia to it cause it's lower in carbs.
  22. It is so weird for me, since before coming off my PPI, I drank ALOT of water. Now it just feels so strange going down.

    Hair Loss Question

No, the thing I am trying to get used to is being off my PPI. It's fine most of the time, but I do get heart burn in the evenings. And Water feels completely different going down now. I don't drink coffee tea or wine.

Feeling a little frustrated today ......

I eat deli Virginia baked ham with a slice of cheese rolled up. The Greek yogurt I get is Brown Cow brand from Walmart. It comes in strawberry and blueberry but I have started buying plain and adding stevia and my own blueberries. I can't remember when you had your surgery but if your'e at least a month post op, you don't need to only have 2 oz every 10-15 min. That is during the healing stage. I think once I was past one month, I was drinking an 8 oz shake in 5 min.

    Acid Reducers.

You're welcome Stcyt! You're supposed to be on them 6 months post op. I would suppose that is to protect the tiny tummy while it's healing. I was on them a year, bu it's getting easier every day. Gavescon is supposed to be the only one that won't cause rebound acid. Dr. Aceves told me to take prilosec which is not a PPI, but an acid reducer, every other day for 2 weeks, then every 3 days for 2 weeks, but so far, I have not had to do that.
