    Dr Aceves credentials

You don't need to bring much money. You have dinner at the hotel the night before surgery. I didn't eat there, but most people have said $25 is plenty for dinner. I think the nexium they want you to buy before you go home is around $30. You can bring tips if you want, to tip the hotel staff or tip Ernesto, the driver who will pick you up at the airport and take you back to the airport. Somebody can correct me if I am wrong because I ate at the mall at Burger King, and I didn't buy the Nexium either because I had protonix at home. These are figures I am trying to remember from other people's posts. On the way home, you should bring something to put in your Water, like K20 Protein water. They have little packets you can add to water. Better yet would be some unflavored Protein powder that you can add to some juice they serve on the plane, or something sf you can buy at the airport.
  3. Go to the food section of this board and look for a thread I started called places to order samples. You're best off to order some different samples rather than buy a big tub of anything.

    I'm SCARED to eat!!!

I ate a lot of chicken salad, tuna salad, and egg salad. I also cooked ground turkey with taco seasoning and mixed in sour cream. There is a recipe in here for a ricotta bake that is good with some marinara sauce on top.

    Torani Sugar Free Syrups

I put them in my plain greek yogurt too. It's great stuff. I have a restaurant supply store here and it's very cheap there.
  6. I can eat anything I want. There is really nothing that doesn't sit well with me. The things I would consider sliders would be yogurt and salad. I can eat a lot of salad. Lettuce of any kind can be chewed down to nothing. Other foods that are considered slider foods like ground meat, still stick with me for a long time. I am really never hungry. I like to snack on apples cut into quarters and smeared with Peanut Butter.I can usually eat 2 quarters and later on eat the rest. That is something that does stick with me for a long time.
  7. I had surgery over a year ago and I just barely told my pcp. I told him I needed some lap work done. then I asked him if he had ever heard about the gastric sleeve. I told him I had it done a year ago in April and that was why I wanted the lab work done. He asked where I had it done, and I told him Dr.Aceves did it and he was a fabulous surgeon and that I had better care at the hospital there than I had at the hospital here when I had my gall bladder out.He was great about it and ordered all the labs I wanted plus a few more he thought I should have.

Dr. Aceves - departure/arrival dates; info

They pick you up to leave for the airport at 7 am. I think my flight to return home was at 1 pm. As far as going, I am pretty sure if you arrive as early as 11 am, you can be picked up at the airport and not have to spend the night. Milllie gave you good advice. Just call them! They are great about answering questions.

Don't worry about what you can eat with the sleeve. The sleeve is nothing like the the band. You will be able to eat anything you want in small portions. I haven't found anything I can't eat. It was a little difficult in the beginning while I was learning to eat with the sleeve. After you're completely healed, just follow your doctor's post op diet and add back the foods that they tell you, when they say it's okay to eat solids. The main thing you have to wait a little bit longer to eat is raw veggies.

    Made a mistake

I was lifting weights for several years before sleeve surgery. There was no way I could wait the amount of time I was told to before going back to my weights routine. I shouldn't be telling you to go against medical advice, but I did too. The only thing I waited on was ab work. I didn't do my crunches for the 6 weeks I was told not to.

    help, having issues

There are people who have reported having stomach spasms. Dr. Aceves recommended people drink something warm to start out with to relax everything inside. making sure you're on an acid reducer PPI is also very important, as Steve said.

    Seeing is Believing

I really didn't tell anyone and I went to Mexico by myself. Try not to worry. The sleeve works great. There are stalls, and everyone has them. Just try to remember your body has to get used to it's new weight, and when it does, you'll start dropping again. The chat room is a great source of support. We chat in the evenings. Are you on the west coast since you're having surgery in SF? It helps to know which time zone you're in cause people come and go in the chat room in the evenings depending on which time zone they are in.
  14. Steve I just wanted to say that I am really happy for you that you're getting rid of the band and getting the sleeve. I am glad you had your Dr. Aceves experience with your wife so you know how great he is. I am so glad it's your turn!
  15. It takes acid to absorb calcium. calcium citrate it better absorbed than any other calcium. I've been taking calcium for years but still have the beginning stages of osteoporosis.
  16. I don't have the feeling of hunger being off mine. I do get heartburn and some days it's bad and some days I have none at all. I've been off mine about 6 weeks now. I've heard of people getting off of them without any trouble. Since you had GERD before the sleeve, you may need to stay on it. If I were you, I would try the generic of Protonix. The generic is very inexpensive and I think Protonix works extremely well. Make sure you take calcium citrate but not within 2 hours of taking your PPI. Men get osteoporosis too. I was shocked when I found out I had the beginning stages of it.

    what size sleeve are you?

I am at 14 months post op. I can also eat a soft taco from taco bell. I can eat one piece of pizza. today I ate 2 ribs and I couldn't eat anymore. I can eat about 3 oz of steak. I can eat one chicken leg. I never really measure oz.

    I Give Up... PPI's

My doctor does not want me to go back on them. He has checked my Calcium levels several different ways. My calcium levels stink in spite of being diligent in taking my calcium citrate. Since I have the beginning of osteoporosis, I am between a rock and a hard place. I do take the tagament which helps. Some days I don't seem to have acid and some days it's horrible. It doesn't seem to be tied to what I eat. the opposite has happened for me. I don't feel like eating and being off of them has sort of made me lose my appetite.I look at food and it looks like heartburn to me. I was on the PPi over a year so I don't know if it's going to help anyone to wait a year rather than 6 months.

    Prolab whey protein

I would not advise buying big tubs of anything before surgery. There have been many people who have done that and then hated the product after surgery. A lot of people have said that their taste changed and things they liked before surgery, they hated after surgery. If it's not expensive and you don't mind taking a gamble, then go ahead and buy it. It would seem like maybe you could find someone there who has some that you could try?

    Prolab whey protein

I've never heard of it. I have been online talking about WLS for over 4 years and nobody has ever mentioned this product. I think Papillion gave you good advice. Try to go to a nutrition store that will let you sample products. or you can go to the food section of this site and look under Protein powders for a thread I started called "places to get samples" I would buy some samples of things to try.
  22. I haven't been in the chat room lately. I've been kind of busy in the evenings but I am going to be around tonight and will leave the chat window open. Does anyone want to talk?
  23. Oregondaisy

    Anyone want to chat tonight?

looking for someone to talk to. Hope somebody is in the mood to chat! I have the chat window open..

Wish I knew about SR sooner!

Read all the band to sleeve revison stories. There are plenty of us who have nightmare band stories who absolutely love the sleeve because living with the band is a nightmare and living with the sleeve is effortless.
