Question for Post-Op patients of Dr. Aceves in MX
Oregondaisy replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Diva, I would be happy to talk to you about Dr. Aceves. I would send my daughter or anyone in my life to him. Why don't you pm me your phone # and I will call you. It would be much easier to talk on the phone. Believe me when I say this, on a scale of 1-10, I would give Dr. Aceves and his entire staff and the hospital 1 million. I have a very good friend who lives in Phoenix and is an RN and she has been to him many times for other thing when she has insurance that would pay for her to go to a dr. in Arizona. She is a nurse and she does not trust anyone but Dr. Aceves. -
vitacost has free shipping right now on orders over $79. I love the Oh Yeah peanut butter/choc. Protein bars and I can't live without them. I also get my chewable Calcium citrate there. Netrition and vitacost are both great because their shipping is 4.99 no matter how much you order. Free is even better though, and vitacost often does free shipping. Too bad they don't carry the syrups, but they sure carry everything else!

He uses a 34 and oversews it so that it is a 32 when after surgery. -
6 days post op and my protien drinks are terrible!
Oregondaisy replied to timmy.in.tenn's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Make sure you get Greek Yogurt which is much higher on protein than regular yogurt. Get the non fat plain and put the SF syrup in there and it will be great. sometimes I add some stevia too to make it a little sweeter. -
Aceves people PLEASE HELP :)
Oregondaisy replied to CuT*ThE*CrAp's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos his assistant surgeon are wonderful. They come and see you 3 times a day. All the staff there are wonderful. I especially enjoyed Sergio, a male nurse who came to see me several times a day to loan me Dr. Campos' cell phone since mine would not work there. He also brought me Dr. Campos' lap top every day at 3 pm because I was so bored in my room. He always chatted with me and before he left my room each time he said "don't forget to practice your Spanish" You will love it there. My only regret is that I can't go back there just to visit them all. You have nothing to worry about. Everyone who has been there has said the same thing. They were treated fabulously there and their entire experience was great. -
By sipping slowly. Some people can guzzle right from the beginning. I could. You have to remember that liquid is going to go right out of your tiny stomach, and not fill it up like solids do.

They are in the pharmacy section at the costco I go to. sometimes, they are on sale. They usually move them if they are on sale, to somewhere towards the front. -
what do you think about what i'm eating - and did i mention i hate my scale....
Oregondaisy replied to mommytoethan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Our bodies have to get used to it's new weight before it will decide to let go of anymore. don't worry about it. You're eating right and it will come off. I never lost every week. I would go on plateaus, not lose for about 3 weeks, and the drop 5 lbs and go on another plateau. -

I doubt if you ever will be able to find a bad word about him. He is wonderful and they treat you like you are a princess there. I walked all over the place outside the hospital too, and never felt unsafe. The people I saw were friendly and said hello. I loved being there! -
Did you know that having a low level of Vit D can cause cravings for sweets? Mine was very low and I always craved sweets. I got it to go from 30 to 80 and now my cravings for sweets is much easier to deal with. I don't have nearly the cravings I used to. I take 50,000 once a week. I was taking 2,000 every day, and it didn't go up at all. Above 80 is in the normal range.

I can't get it to load. It just keeps saying loading and nothing happens!

Send a private message to Alex. If you go to your private messages and type in Alex, he is the first Alex that pops up. He owns the board and he should be able to figure out why chat won't work for you. It's been working well for awhile now and there are several of us who chat most evenings.

Over 3 Years and Counting...
Oregondaisy replied to LUCK's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I don't have a Walgreens here. Do you know who else carried it? -
It is a permanent thing, if you eat too much. You have to remember the stomach that is left is very tiny. If you fill it up too much, there is nowhere for the food to go. Making slime is your body's only line of defense to try to help digest food so there is room in there. Do you remember when you have the stomach flu and right before you vomit, your mouth gets all watery? It's similar to that. That being said, now that I am past one year, it rarely happens to me anymore. I know how much I can eat and I don't over do it. Like I said before, eating with the sleeve is a learning process. It takes awhile to learn though, unless you plan to take a measuring cup with you every time or everywhere you eat.

Consumer Reports/Protein Drinks
Oregondaisy replied to Robbiehage's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Let us know what you find out. When I saw the news report on TV, they said the same stuff is in a lot of our food. -
Maybe looking at some of the before and after pictures will make you feel better. There are a lot of people who lost 100 lbs in a short time. It's not going to happen overnight, but you're going to lose the weight! The sleeve is an amazing tool.

Bullets are not a good form of Protein. They are made from collegan and you need whey protein. Sunshine is right. You would be much better off to get some unflavored whey protein and mix it in anything you like such as sf gatoraide, poweraide, sf Hawaiian punch, crystal lite, etc. If you have a GNC, they may have the syntrex nectar drinks for sale.

You are not supposed to drink while eating even if you are at goal. You can do it if you want to, but your food passes through your stomach much faster and you will be hungry again soon and you can eat more. It's a very slippery slope to get that habit started. In the beginning, when you're fresh out of surgery, you won't have room for any liquid while you're eating. You'll only be able to eat a few bites, and drinking will make you sick.

both. The anesthesiologist will go over it all with you before surgery. If you have any questions before surgery, just call them or email them. They are great about answering questions.

You park your car in a triple A parking lot. Dr. Aceves driver picks you up there and he drives you across the border. Dr. Aceves price includes everything. The hotel, all tests, etc You can bring someone with you and there is no extra charge. They can stay with you at the hotel, and there is a big comfy couch so they can stay in your room with you too. Dr. Aceves staff is very good about answering questions so just call them! The whole process is very easy and they are extremely helpful to go out of their way to accomadate you. -
For me, drinking soda makes me feel like I am going to explode. I can have a few sips, but any more than that, I need to burp and I can't. Until I do, it's very uncomfortable.

My band surgeon told me it stops at 9 months. He did my gall bladder surgery and when I went for my post op for that surgery, all he wanted to do was talk about the sleeve. I asked him about the hair loss and told him it hadn't recovered from band surgery when it started falling out from sleeve surgery. He was right. I started losing way less hair at 9 months, but I think at 15 months post op, I am still losing more than I should. I take Biotin 3 times a day.

It doesn't just happen with a band. If you eat too much, your body produces a very thick saliva to help the food pass out of your stomach. Your mouth fills up with it, and it's better to spit it out rather than swallow it. Swallowing it just makes it worse. It's a learning process to eat with a sleeve. Once you learn how much to eat, this does not happen nearly as often.
