There is a thread in the food section where you can find samples of all sorts of Protein drinks. I would not stock up too much ahead of time because people say all the time that things they liked before surgery, they hated after surgery. There are many good protein drinks that are 120-150 calories and low in carbs. Some people just hate all protein drinks!

Vomiting & Unable to Get/Keep Liquids Down
Oregondaisy replied to NikkiRose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does your surgeon know that you're having trouble keeping things down? It's very easy to become dehydrated. That just causes more nausea. I would call the doctor immediately and not wait for the day of your follow up appointment. -
I did too. You are taking in so few calories, even though peanut butter is high in calories, you would have to eat an awful lot of it for your calories to be too high for the day. Plus peanut butter is pretty low carb anyway.

Where are the two years?
Oregondaisy replied to Globetrotter's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I will be 2 years out at the end of April. I can tell you that I can eat way more than I could a year ago. It's okay. Just because I can, doesn't mean I need to. I am still not hungry, so I eat small portions even though I know I could eat more. I did get to goal and stayed there for over a year until this last October-November. My birthday is at the end of October and I had a lot of friends taking me to dinner and lunch. Of course they wanted to split dessert. Then thanksgiving and Christmas. I have really been having trouble getting it off . I gained 8 lbs in 2 months and for some reason, I am stalled out after only losing 2 of those extra lbs. Next week should be better cause I will be able to exercise more. I pretty much eat the same things I have been eating ever since I moved to solids. -
I say drink what you like! If you're sick, you probably aren't eating a bunch anyway. You can count calories later!

I need to find a replacement for Premier Protien Shakes
Oregondaisy replied to myrori's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like muscle milk light RTD but it's only 20 grams not 30. It is sweeter than Premeire though. I still have my old box of Premeire. It would suck to buy a new box and have them taste awful. I will have to taste them in the store. costco is 100 miles from my house so I have to know if I like it. My daughter had gastric bypass and she likes Oh Yeah Protein drinks. They are RTD too. You'd probably have to order them online. If you have GNC at least you could taste one though. -
I mix it with water too. Sometimes I put it in crystal light.

8 months out - AND NO RESTRICTION
Oregondaisy replied to texaschick's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I will be 2 years post op in April and I can eat WAY more than I could a year ago. There is a reason they say that the first 6 months is the honeymoon period. I definitely have to watch every bite I put in my mouth now. I think our bodies adjust to the small amount of calories we were feeding it for so many months. I think that's why I gain now if I stray from my plan and eat something I am not supposed to eat. -
when will i ever learn??? and a question
Oregondaisy replied to ptoezee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Straws must be okay because everything Dr. Aceves brought me in the hospital came with a straw. -
My food tastes never changed and now that I am nearly 2 years post op, I really can eat anything I want. I enjoy a variety of food and I never feel deprived. This is the !

you don't need to worry about giving up certain foods. In the beginning you can only eat tiny amounts of food. That does not go on forever. Eventually, you'll be able to eat anything you want in small portions. Honestly, there is nothing I can't eat. If I choose to fill up on bread though, I don't have much room for much else. I can eat half a sandwich now though..

The only way I eat chicken breast is in a salad and the salad dressing moistens it enough. Otherwise, I eat the legs or the thighs which are much more tender and juicy.

i'm scared it stretched!
Oregondaisy replied to mommytoethan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
yes of course we stretch. We go from only being able to eat a few bites right after surgery to about 4 oz of dense protein. It's different for the type of protein you are eating. We can't eat as much steak or chicken as we can mushie foods like 8 oz of yogurt. It is stretched all that it's going to stretch though at that point. -
I am very curious as to how many people on this board had their sleeve done by Dr. Aceves. Please add your name to the list and also post if you have anything what so ever negative to say about your experience with him or any of his staff. Of course, Please post your feelings if they are positive as well. Dr. Aceves does not advertise here, but through word of mouth only, has sleeved many of us here, and I am just curious as to the actual number. Post also if you have surgery scheduled. I will start. I was sleeved there 16 months ago, and I loved him and everyone there. I felt I was in the care of one of the best surgeons available whether it be in Mexico or the US. sleeve date 4-29-09

Let's count Dr. Aceves Patients!
Oregondaisy replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Okay I have not counted the exact number on this thread, but I do know that not one person was unhappy with anything regarding their hospital stay or their surgeon. That has to say something for the team down there. Dr. Aceves may charge a little bit more than some of the other Mexican surgeons but his reputation gives everyone peace of mind and that is worth a fortune to me! -
10 days post op and not sure if its going right
Oregondaisy replied to ATLGirl's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
If you can get half down, you're doing good. It will all come in time. Just sip best as you can and try to sip some water or watered down juice in between. -
5 weeks out and can't get much down...
Oregondaisy replied to faithstar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't try to push it . things will get better. Can you drink protein drinks at all? Or isoure? Lots of protein there -
yes, a tiny bite of each is not going to hurt a thing. Make sure you savor every bite and enjoy it and eat it slowly. You might get full really fast so that's why I say take it slow

Obstructed by a "bezoar", has anyone else heard of this?
Oregondaisy replied to Vampyrvet's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I eat celery in tuna and chicken salad all the time. I cut it up very tiny. I think it's fine if it's cut up small and chew it up very well. Anyone who still sees their doctor can ask them. Since I went to Mexico, I can't talk to Dr. Aceves. I'd be curious to hear what other doctors say. -
Most doctors want at least60 grams of Protein per day, or more if you can do it. Many people who lost all their excess weight kept carbs to less than 30 grams per day.

Official Ongoing Gastric Sleeve Maintenance Thread
Oregondaisy replied to Oregondaisy's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I am the same way! My daughter laughs at me because it's hard for me to stay off the scale before bed. I like to weigh myself before bed so I have an idea of what I will find when I get up in the morning. I go to a support group at the Bariatric center I went to when I got my lap band. It's the nurse coordinator who tells everyone to weigh daily. when you are in the losing stage, if people go on a plateau, then it's not a good idea to weigh twice a day. -
Choboni (sp?) is so smooth and creamy it is like a dessert. I am really glad more stores are starting to carry it and the price seems to be coming down. As far as the syrups go, my favorite has to be raspberry. It's good to put in Protein shakes too. Some of the flavors really don't taste very much like what they are supposed to taste like. It's definitely trial and error with the sf syrups.

Any advice??Band has slipped a 2nd time now considering the sleeve
Oregondaisy replied to love2shop's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Read the section of the board band to sleeve revisions. There are so many of the same stories. I was thrilled when I heard about the sleeve and could hardly wait to have my revision surgery. The band is a nightmare and living with the sleeve is pretty effortless. -
There is definitely a difference in the taste and texture of Greek yogurt too. Choboni's is so smooth and creamy. Dannon is now making a greek yogurt which is not very good at all. The other two good brands are Oikos and Fage.
