Heartburn/acid reflux/GERD permanent after surgery?
Oregondaisy replied to BigServ's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Mine has not. I only have to take my PPI every other day, but I tried to go off of it completely without success. -
You can say you're trying to lose weight or watch your weight or watch your girlish figure etc. I dated a lot with the sleeve. I said I had late lunch, or a little bit of an upset stomach too. After I got to know someone, I told them the truth. I've never had a negative response and my current bf tells me I am a cheap date. We share food a lot!

6 days out afraid of not getting enough nutrients
Oregondaisy replied to bethmer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have a GNC they are usually really good about letting you sample things or bring things back if you keep the receipt. You could try Isopure which comes in several flavors and are more fruity tasting than milky. You can try Kellogs Protein Water which only has a little protein but it's better than none. The nectar Protein drinks are very thin and a lot of people like those. You can get samples of that online too. -
Yes, I agree. You need to see a doctor. Gall bladder pain is normally on the right, but it sounds like something is definitely going on that a doctor needs to diagnose.

I was never big to begin with but before surgery, I wore a 40 C. Now I wear a 34 A which is normally too big in the cup. The AA ones are for little kids and basically have no material on the sides so stick to the A cup. I hate it. I'd love to have boobs but I don't want surgery. I asked my plastic surgeon when I had my face lift, and he said I would totally lose nipple sensation. I don't want that!

Whey protein...what kind??>
Oregondaisy replied to Ms.DJ14's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go to the food section of this board and there are a lot of places you can order samples. You can order the nectar samples and samples of many different kinds of Protein drinks. Most people say their taste changed after surgery, so it's not a good idea to buy a big tub of anything just yet . -
unflavored protein
Oregondaisy replied to lovemyboys's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Proti is a brand that makes a lot of different flavors of soups. The tomato is pretty good. I got it from my band doctor but I am sure you can get it online. Jay Robb is pretty good. It's very thin if you make it with Water and not strong tasting. I make it with vanilla soy milk and I think it tastes better. I do like the Premier from costco too and muscle milk light but I have heard of others who hate muscle milk. Go to the food thread and there are a bunch of places to order samples. As for unflavored, I used GNC and put it in something strong tasting like cran-rasberry light and lemonaide. It's unflavored, but Protein does have a taste. You cover it up with divinci syrups too. There are a lot of flavorsl -

Woke up choking on acid!!
Oregondaisy replied to kellyw74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know why that would happen with the sleeve. I had that happen all the time with the band. Maybe you should ask your doctor if you should be on a different PPI? If it keeps happening, definitely talk to your doctor. -
Places to get liquid protein samples
Oregondaisy replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
You can get really good Protein hot chocolate from there too -
Did your surgeon take out the band first and then wait?
Oregondaisy replied to Glendaaus's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations on getting that band out. Most of the time, it's done all in one surgery. The endoscopy will definitely tell if you have any complications that would prevent the surgeon from doing it all at once. -
It does take a few classes to get used to it and know which weights to use. After that, you'll have your weights close to you and you'll be able to change the weights for the next routine. i agree that it's a great work out for cardio and strength training all at the same time.

Will it work for me - if I can, I will cheat
Oregondaisy replied to pingu's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The part of the stomach when you have gastric sleeve surgery is a completely different part of the stomach than the pouch that is made the gastric bypass surgery. Our stomachs after surgery are from the muscular part of stomach which is the least stretchy part of the stomach so it does not stretch nearly as much as the gastric bypass pouch. I am now 2 yrs 3 months post op and I can tell you that bread fills me up to the point that if I choose to eat it, I can count on not being able to fit anything else in. I don't have the desire to eat all day long like I did before surgery. There are definitely emotional days when I do have cravings, but really, the sleeve stops me from eating as much I would really like to. I am sure it's possible to gain a lot of the weight back by eating candy and sweets constantly. The scale is my best friend. I weigh every day and it's pretty easy for me to grab control back when I see a gain of a couple of lbs. I did gain 8 lbs this last holiday season, but I do know how to diet. After the holidays, I made up my mind to take it off and since then, I go up and down a couple of lbs from my goal. Honestly, there are days when I just don't feel like eating so it's not hard to stay at goal. In my opinion, your best chance in not gaining the weight back is with the sleeve surgery over any other option that is available. -
Really, you hardly even know you are crossing. You are in the van with the driver and you have to wait a little while sometimes, if there is a line. You basically just stop for a few seconds while they glance inside the van. They don't check inside bags or anything like that. I had a face lift in May in Meicalli and it was the same way that time as when I crossed with Ernesto 2 years ago. We just drove right across the border without any difficulty.

Dr Aceves credentials
Oregondaisy replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
thank you so much oregon daisy! this was quite helpful.. .My pleasure! I love being able to give anyone who wants the information all the details about what makes Dr. Aceves such a perfect choice when looking for a surgeon. I got this a couple of years ago when I was looking for a surgeon to do my revision. You can put it on your face book page if you want to! -
Glad to see the 50's thread moving again. I wish I had found this surgery years ago. I love being his weight and I wish I hadn't spent to many years fat. 50's has it's downfall, such as my body not wanting to co-operate now that I have a new BF and sex is in the picture. I get frequent UTIs . The doctor gave me an antibiotic to take before sex and it worked for awhile but stopped working. I am bummed because I am crazy about this guy and I went for a lot of years with no sex.

Official Ongoing Gastric Sleeve Maintenance Thread
Oregondaisy replied to Oregondaisy's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
yes, it's easy to go up and down and let the occasional junk food from emotional eating creep back in. I do make sure to watch the scale very carefully though and that is my life saver. If I gain, it's right back to protein only for a few days. -
sizes are really crazy though. I really don't know what size I wear, but most commonly, an 8. I also have size 4 and 6 jeans that fit me. I recently went to K mart to buy some cheap jeans. I have a lot of painting and work to do on my house since I am selling it. I didn't know what size to take into the dressing room. The ones that fit were an 8 petite though. I thought since it was one of the cheap stores, I'd wear a bigger size. Be happy where you are! There are days I don't feel like eating and don't have much of an appetitie. My weight can go down a bit for a few days when I am feeling like that. Or it will go up if I am upset about something and end up eating some junk. But I weigh every day and I know what I will allow. I am a happy sleever! whether I am up a couple or down a couple! I really don't pay attention to sizes, only the scale.

I eat pizza pretty regularly. I can eat one piece and I am stuffed. One piece is definitely my limit, even at 2 + years out. Sometimes I can't even eat most of the crust, and sometimes I am able to eat most of one small slice of thin crust pizza.

You are supposed to crush pills for awhile after surgery. You will need to talk to you doctor about this.

Need to take vitamins rest of life?
Oregondaisy replied to Nancy Rivers's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
It's really not possible with the small amounts of food that we are able to eat to get all the nutrients we need. There were a lot of people who posted on the OH maintenance forum who are now anemic. I have to take Iron every day and I am still anemic. We get iron from red meat and I certainly can't eat red meat at every meal. I've seen a lot of news/talk shows lately on the importance of taking Vitamin D 3. Doctors are now telling people who aren't even sleeved to take it. Being deficient in Vit D 3 causes food/sweet cravings so who needs that!
