I had my lap-band on 9/10/10 which was a long time coming.  I had originally thought about getting the bypass surgery and after doing some research and talking to some friends and family decided the lap-band would work better for me.  I have been overweight since I was 18 years old.  That's when I had my first child and gained alot of weight w/the pregnancy, 2 years later I had another baby and w/in 17 months had my 3rd child.  I was overweight after having the kids but, not so much that I didn't think I wouldn't be able to do something about it.  Then I got hurt at work and w/the steroids and not being as active and the pain and surgeries I had to have to fix the work injury I gained more weight.  I then developed sleep apnea because I was so over weight.  I went to the doctors one day and when I was weighted I realized I was on my way to being 300lbs.  Something that I never thought I would ever get close to and that made me realize that I had to do more then talk about losing weight.  I had tried many weight loss programs and would lose some weight and gain it and more back.  So when I got off the scale and was put in the room I talked to my doctor about weight loss surgery.  I knew several people who had had the bypass done and I was on a mission.  My PCP thought that it was a wonderful idea and that's when the process began.  I knew a few people who had gone to Magee and had Dr. Hamad and had nothing but wonderful things to say about her and her staff so I set up my first appointment and haven't looked back since.  It was the best decision I ever made and I only wish I would have done it years ago.  My children are all pretty much grown and I wonder at times what an embarrassment I have been to them.  I have only had my band for 6 weeks but, I am down 40lbs and have never been happier.
