Exercise after Band
debbielynn replied to J in Vermont's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Start walking the night of surgery to avoid blood clots. They can be fatal. i was walking 5 hours after surgery around the hospital. Go slow and hold on but do it. I was int he gym on the exercycle for 10 minutes 5 days post op. i go 5 days a week and have increased my time to 12 minutes now. good luck! -
I just read another response and i disagree completely. Because you are a size 18 does niot mean that you are not morbidly obese. What is your height? if you are 5 feet tall then you are morbidly obese. Second, WLS is a very personal decision and should be given careful consideration before doing it. I was banded on oct 7th and this was the best decision I ever made for myself. I am a mom of 4 young kids and the thought that something might go wrong crossed my mind more than once. I found a highly skilled surgeon actually the best in southern cal and I have great insurance so my waiting time from start to finish was only 5 weeks. not bad! I have dieted all of my life with very little success. I would lose then gain it back olus some and so on. I hit 289 pounds and that was enough for me. i have lost over 35 pounds already and i feel fabulous. I hope to hit 50 by Thanksgiving. think things through carefully before doing any type of surgery. Try and determine your goals and reasons behind considering this. the right answer will come to you. Stay in touch. debbie

You are not a failure at all. you are willing to give this another go and that is a champ! You are fortunate because you have experience with which foods upset your stomach the most. Stay away from those foods. stay on track with exercise nad watch those carbs and you will be successful. good luck with you and starting over!!!!!

Nervous and have questions
debbielynn replied to jr76's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on Oct 7th and I feel great. i have not thrown up at all nor felt sick. I am still in phase 2 pureed foods of my post op diet. I lost just under 20 pounds pre op and have lost over 15 more since the surgery. I am not hungry at all, and i do not crave sugar at all which is huge for me because I used to love ice cream. I exercise 5 times a week at a gym which I never thought I would do and have a ton of energy. The reason you are considering WLS is because diets have all failed you. The restriction tool is unbelievable and if you have a great, experienced surgeon then you will be ok. check out your surgeon very carefully and feel comfortable with him or her first. Stay in touch and let me know what you decide to do. debbie -

debbielynn replied to vstall6046's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded on the 7th of oct and doing really well. I do not have any sweet cravings at all so i guess I am lucky. the weight comes off really fast and I am surprised by that. they said 1-2 pounds a week but I lost that almost everyday. How about you? good luck with your recovery and weight loss. you can also go on thinnertimes.com it is a great website too. debbie -
Haven't lost an ounce...help!
debbielynn replied to clm2003's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not sure what to say. Are you exercising everyday/ If not I would recommend the gym or a brisk walk for at least 20 minutes 5 times a week. Watch the sodium intake too. It can help you retain fluids. You will lose eventually if you stay on track. You can do it and you will see the results soon. debbie -
How often do you weigh yourself?
debbielynn replied to WrenBird's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weigh every morning and I love seeing the numbers drop. It is fun to see it! -
Hi. WLS is such a personal decision. something took you this far so it sounds like just cold feet. I had my band done on October 7th and I feel great. I have lost over 35 pounds already and have tons of energy. It was the best decision I ever made for myself but again this is very personal. good luck with everything and let me know what you decide to do. debbie
