Hello all! This is all becoming very real now. I went for my initial consult on August 9th. I asked for the the Sleeve procedure and then I was told my insurance was a case by case bases so they put in a request. I went to the Pschy evaluation and passed the oral and test just fine. I received a letter about a month later that I was approved so I called the insurance woman to ask what is next and she said for Bypass, right? I was like NO, Sleeve. She replied with well your doctor does not usually do that. I was dumbfounded as he went over it in detail with me, showing me a pen and saying that is the size my stomach would be, gerhlin ect, ect. So then they had to resubmit to my insurance company with the right code, in the meantime I went to the sleep study and have been having phone counseling on nutrition once a week per my insurance company. Yesterday I heard the sleeve was approved and I set up the lung doctor appointment for the 28th and and ultrasound for the 26th and a session with a Dietitian on Nov 3. The insurance woman at the doctors office said to call her if the lung doctor clears me that day and we will set up a date. I am really pushing for this year as I am looking at no deductible vs 3000 if I go into next year. I do not anticipate any problems at the lung doctor as I have never smoked, don't have asthma and they told me there was no apnea on my sleep study. I have been trying out all kinds of Protein drinks and have begun to substitute some for meals. In Jan of this year I was at 271 and in August I was down to 238, I was totally shocked. I can only contribute that to giving up Coca Cola and really paying attention to healthy options. I am on pins and needles hoping there are no more delays should they find something on my ultrasound or visit with lung doctor. At this point in time, besides getting as date before the end of the year, my biggest concern is my husband. I am really starting to resent him as he needs this surgery more than I do and all he keeps worrying about is when I will be able to go out to eat with him again. (it is a daily thing for him) I have gone over everything with him and yet he keeps acting like it is not real or I will just give in. Honestly I am willing to give up my marriage to be healthy if he does not come around. He refuses to go to support meetings with me and really does not listen when I tell him what I need to do for this. Is anyone else here with the Kane Center in IL??

Almost Died Fm Vsg Surgery.

Bull , Freedom of Information act allows the 9-1-1 call to you. I said yes to pictures, now I see one that is very generic but still of no proof . Finally it is impossible to be able to take only one bite of anything without barfing to not to lose weight. I request a copy of the digital file of your 9-1-1 call, I request pictures.I request a scanned copy of letters the lawyers used to turn you down. Internal bleeding is a risk of any abdominal surgery, so please prove neglect by hospital (they did take you to ICU) and malpractice by the doctor. I do believe you will find Internal bleeding as one of the MANY risks involved in VSG you signed a consent for, oh and since you paid 350.00 for your records I also request a scanned copy of that document. Enough said. When and only when you can provide this I will be more than happy to say sorry. -

I need to find a replacement for Premier Protien Shakes
myrori posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Premier Nutrition went a pulled a Coca Cola formula switch and the new shakes taste HORRIBLE. I USED to like them because they were smooth and rich in chocolate taste and ready to drink. Now I need a replacement shake, I would like something that is creamy and smooth and ready to drink. I would like to stay around the 30 grms mark if possible. Any suggestions? -
I have never worried about what others think at a restaurant. I am 9 months post op and for the first time ever I pulled the " I had wls card" with the other night. We were at an all you could eat buffet of seafood and I could not see paying 39.99 when I would not go up more than once. I very quietly told the waitress I had wls and could not eat more that 3 to 4 ounces at a time and then asked for the children's price on the buffet and to my amazement she did not even blink or make a face, she said SURE you can! I then went on to grab just a little bit of everything I liked and enjoyed my whole one trip to the buffet. Crab legs! Well the whole point here is my husband is huge! and went up like 5 times for more. I am sure some folks wondered why I was sitting there not eating and getting more while he was gorging himself, but I did not even notice if anyone is looking,,, and why? BECAUSE I look GOOD now and I really don't care what others think about what I eat or don't eat or how I eat it,,, it all so worth it to be of "normal" weight today!

Caffiene will interfere with the body abosorbing vitamins
myrori replied to myrori's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
What I learned and as it stated it caffeine has effects on the body long after you consume it. Since many Water soluble vitamins can be flushed out of the body, caffeine having a diuretic effect on the body flushes the water soluble vitamins out of our system. We are at risk for B12 definincy after surgery, b12 is destroyed by the gastric juices and needs to be taken sublingual to be absorbed, Vitamin List Vitamins are organic compounds found in foods and supplements that are vital for health. There are 14 official (and four unofficial) vitamins, all of which are essential for the proper functioning of our bodies. We list all vitamins in the vitamin list below. Each name links to information on the functions, deficiency symptoms, sources, and RDA of the vitamin : Fat-Soluble Vitamin Chart Official Vitamin Vitamin A (Retinol) Yes Vitamin D (Calciferol) Yes Vitamin E (Tocopherol | Tocotrienols) Yes Vitamin K Yes Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10 | Ubiquinone) No* Water-Soluble Vitamin Chart Comment Official Vitamin Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) B vitamin Yes Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) B vitamin Yes Vitamin B3 (Niacin) B vitamin Yes Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid) B vitamin Yes Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) B vitamin Yes Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin) B vitamin Yes Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) Yes Vitamin P (Bioflavonoids) No* Biotin (Vitamin H) B vitamin Yes Choline B vitamin Yes Folic Acid (Folate | Vitamin B9) B vitamin Yes Inositol (Myo-Inositol | Vitamin B8) B vitamin No* PABA (Para-AminoBenzoic Acid) B vitamin No* * Essential nutrients with vitamin-like qualities considered by some as vitamins, but not widely or officially recognized as such. Fat-Soluble Vitamins vs Water-Soluble Vitamins Vitamins are usually classified according to whether they are fat soluble or water soluble. Vitamins A, D, E, K, and coq10 are fat soluble. The rest in the vitamin list above are water soluble. Fat-soluble vitamins need the presence of fats and certain minerals to be absorbed by the digestive system, and are stored mainly in the liver and fatty tissues. Since they are stored in the body, they do not need to be consumed as regularly as water soluble vitamins, but pose greater risk of toxicity when taken in excess. Water-soluble vitamins, on the other hand, are not stored in the body in significant amounts. They are normally readily excreted in urine, and so must be replenished into the body daily to avoid being depleted. They are also more easily lost in cooking. What Vitamins Do All the vitamins are essential for sustaining life. A deficiency in any vitamin causes disease symptoms that can only be cured by intake of the vitamin. Each vitamin has a number of functions, some of which overlap with those of other vitamins. They are needed for normal growth, and play a part in the health of almost every organ. They enable many critical bio-chemical processes that take place in the body to sustain health and life. Some play a role in absorption and metabolism of carbohydrates, Proteins, fats, and minerals. Others are important for brain function, resistance to infection, fertility, and proper functioning of the digestive system. All have a role in fighting disease and aging. Vitamins have been tested to slow or reverse diseases such as cancer, dementia, osteoporosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, heart diseases, and many others. Caffiene will interfere with the body abosorbing vitamins
myrori posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Caffeine is a part of the Breakfast meal of many Americans. Many also take a Multivitamin supplement daily as a part of their morning routine. Not many people are aware that taking Vitamins at the same time as a cup of coffee or tea can interfere with the body’s absorption of many necessary nutrients. Calcium Caffeine causes calcium to be excreted in the urine and feces. For every 150 mg of caffeine ingested, about the amount in one cup of coffee, 5 mg of calcium is lost. This effect occurs even hours after the consumption of caffeine. One study of postmenopausal women found that those who consumed more than 300 mg of caffeine lost more bone in the spine than women who consumed less. Caffeine also inhibits the amount of calcium that is absorbed through the intestinal tract and depletes the amount retained by the bones. Studies have shown that women with high caffeine intake suffer more hip fractures than those who avoid caffeine or drink in moderation (1 to 2 cups per day). Vitamin D Caffeine inhibits Vitamin D receptors, which limit the amount that will be absorbed. Because vitamin D is important in the absorption and use of calcium in building bone, this could also decrease bone mineral density, resulting in an increased risk for osteoporosis. Iron Caffeine interferes with the body’s absorption of iron, which is necessary for red blood cell production. Drinking caffeine at the same time as an iron source can reduce absorption by up to 80%, according to the Nutrition Desk Reference. Any beverage containing caffeine should be separated from iron-containing foods or supplements by at least one hour. B Vitamins Caffeine has a mild diuretic effect, which increases urination. Water soluble vitamins, such as the B-vitamins, can be depleted as a result of the Fluid loss. In addition, it interferes with the metabolism of some B-vitamins, such as thiamine (vitamin B1). The one exception to this rule appears to be vitamin B12. Caffeine stimulates the production of stomach acid, which actually helps the body absorb B12. Other Vitamins and Minerals Caffeine may reduce the absorption of manganese, zinc and copper. It also increases the excretion of the minerals magnesium, potassium, sodium and phosphate. There is also evidence that caffeine interferes with the action of Vitamin A. Sources of Caffeine Coffee and tea are obvious sources of caffeine. Even decaffeinated versions contain a little residual caffeine. Other sources include soft drinks, chocolate, cocoa and some energy drinks. Some supplements and medications, such as those that promote wakefulness, along with pain relievers for headaches, contain caffeine anhydrous, which is the dried, powdery form of caffeine. Dietary supplements sometimes use a natural ingredient called guarana, which is another form of caffeine. A cup of coffee or green tea a day is not likely to have a negative effect on your overall health. However, in excess, caffeine can cause nutrient deficiencies that can affect both health and quality of life. As with most dietary factors, moderation and balance are key in optimal nutrition intake. I know a lot of you ladies like me, pre surgery are on Water pills for blood pressure and swelling. Well then you have 90 day supplies sitting around and suddenly post surgery your body decides to hold some water weight and you reach for the water pill to make the scale look better the next day right?? Well let me tell yeah,, take a water pill or two and then come down with a stomach bug and you end up in the hospital with low potassium! I just spent the night then some getting a potassium infusion and a bunch of heart tests including a stress test and a lot worry and stress because low potassium not only can you cause you to pass out upon standing, it gives you a rapid irregular heart rate! Do NOT take the water pills unless the doctor tells you to! No amount of worries and time spent in the hospital is worth it to see the scale come back down in a hurry!

My US surgeon held up a pen,,, be it one of those printed with his offices name of it and said this will be the size of of your stomach. That, plus swelling after trauma to the body and stomach says a lot!

FOR ME,,, this surgery was about changing former bad habits as well as eating less. Lets not pick each other apart, lets us best support one another to do what is right for each of is. Truth is you can cheat the sleeve by putting down high calorie, high carb, high fat food. Did any of go through this surgery to fail?????? The sleeve is not a miracle, it is a tool. We still have a life time of better food choices ahead of us. As my surgeon put it, sweets are slippery slope! I personally had my fist piece of ice cream b day cake in a over year, and well because I restricted myself the first 8 months it was not even appealing any more, Give me some fresh fruit and Greek Yogurt!

Sorry, some days it is reflux, some days spasm. Like last night the hubby wanted Olive Garden. I chose all cream type sauces. However I do not deny the urge to go "empty" due stuff burning and spasm while I made all look normal to him.

myrori replied to Aimee480's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have heard of folks using ankle weights and sand bags in their privates( ie bra, underwear, ect) but how fast and how soon????? I was lucky, very lucky to not have to do a pre op. I just jumped through the testing hoops, which took 3 months alone! So push, push, push, push that insurance coordinator! I do not support fraud, but I support going around insurance to get healthy! How ironic! -

two weeks out- what is everyone eating?
myrori replied to Pinkbetty's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I think we all progress at different rates, what works one day may not work the next and vice versa. I remember posting here at about 2 months post that I could hardly eat 2 bites of tuna fish when I took my son out and I was concerned that would never change. Let me tell ya,, you will be able to eat again , not huge amounts, but you will eat and even be hungry at times! The pain will go away too, you have lots of swelling from the healing going on. -
Congrats! I too love my bike. It is my new thing!

What is a Weight Loss Surgery Card?
myrori replied to earthchick97's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never asked for one, I just cant see telling some young waiter or waitress, Hey I used to be overweight and now I want a kids portion cause I had my stomach cut out to loose weight. All I could picture is this person walking about the rest my dining time thinking about and possibly sharing with co workers. I never shared all my other surgeries with strangers, so why this one. Now my daughter on the hand has zero issue telling them and giving her card, let tell the screwed up look most of them get on their faces and then most say they have to ask their manager, then her business has become a big to do I would just rather do without. Some places flat out say no. To me it is just easier to split a meal with who ever I am with or get what I want and take the rest home. -

myrori replied to CoffeeBean's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Ok, perhaps we can switch out honesty and the work open? It just takes too much energy FOR ME PERSONALLY to keep up the story so to speak. I was just relating FOR ME it is too much. I mean really it is was it is, I have lost more than a person and have been able to provide info to and inspire other via my "openness" So for me and I was sharing only what works for me. I never meant to imply the original poster should do the same. -
Each day is different in food intake for me, but one time I did get two taco bell chicken tacos down it freaked me out! Next time I went there I could barely finish one????
