Welcome! You will do fine and will not need the bypass! I too was all of the sudden just ready for this surgery.Very calming sense of peace came over me, followed by some nerves( I have decided that was the unconscious mind fighting me) and I have NOT regretted my surgery one time! This absolutely the best thing I have ever done for myself my entire life! -
I LOVE watermelon, but did not try till the 7 month mark.

First eating out - Nothing like expected

For me, right up till I left work for surgery i told NO one, then it occurred to me that it was consuming entirely too much of my energy to "keep up appearances" and I told those who closest to to me what I was having done. I am happy know with my decision to share. Now that I am down 112 pounds no one gives me crap for the way I did it, only encouragement! Our conversations have gone from how much have I lost to what exercise we are into right now it and it feels AWESOME! The fact that I ate 3 pieces of sushi for lunch today or that one chicken finger was more than enough yesterday is the norm now and no longer the the focus of attention. My weight loss has even inspired another co worker to see my surgeon and start the process. I offer her my counsel of having been there and done that. -
Thank you all! I am ready to tell the doc to just put a walking a cast on the foot so I can do as I please with no worries! However he wont and I WANT to ride my bike! But seeing the weight loss in the right direction has helped a little!

There are the injections that are the norm, then there is a filter they can place pre surgery if are of higher risk. My Ex husband has survived 3 blood clots despite my wishes:) If you know what I mean:)

Thank you everyone for the kind words that am not a uncaring B! As a matter of fact I have one failed marriage of 16 years and this relationship/marriage combo is at 10 years and I have not left him except that one time for his depression/laying in bed issues for a year. While I am embarrassed at his current size and disgusted by his smell( I will save you the real details here) I am sticking it out because my marriage commitments ring quite loud in my head and I really don't want to give up his great family! At 47 I love the family feel of his family (brothers and sisters and really great Mom in law!) but I am scared for him as much as I digusted and embarrassed at the same time. It is really only a matter of time before he loses this job. The union is really only his saving grace! I have since my divorce always made sure financially I can take care of me first, so that is not my main consideration, truth be told I would really give all this up right now to go be a full time Grandma! The thing that holds me back is my vows I made on the beach 6 years ago, I made a promise by the ocean and GOD and I am torn about what I feel.

Welcome! I am also from the Chicago area, Elgin area to be specific! Everyone is scared because we view this as something we choose vs something that happens to us and also I think the sub conscious works on us fighting the comfort level we are use to. I too had back problems that were constant for a year before I lost the weight. my s4 and s5 were causing constant pain, I could not even walk around my block with my dogs, then my Dad died of a stroke from High blood pressure and I took a good long hard look at my situation and the fact the 5 bp medications were barely controlling y my blood pressure and it all kinda hit at once in addition to my 24 year old daughter having gastric bypass ( her bravery to have wls really inspired me) and I suddenly just knew it was my time to to this! Despite all the times I tried to *reason* myself out of the surgery, there was a place deep down that knew and felt the surgery was just right for me at this time in my life. My only regret is that I did not do it sooner, ohh the fun I could have in my youth and the better skin I would have had! I have meant with a a couple of folks in the are who had questions and wanted to know more, I would be happy to do the same with you!

I have been wanting to vent on this very subject for a long time! I was worried I would come across wrong or just a b***h. My husband is well over 400 pounds and at it is disabling to him. Now I must say even before the surgery I was getting embarrassed by his size, but now I not only embarrassed and refuse to even walk close to him in public, but I am disgusted! I can't stand how much he eats in front of me and I know he is pigging out in secret. I can't stand his smell, his moaning because his knees hurt, his inability to walk to up the stairs without sounding like he just ran 5 miles, his psoriasis that is clearly affected by what he eats. I have even stopped keeping my clothes in or sleeping in our bedroom because it smells like him. He refused so see how pathetic his situation is. A few years ago he lost his job and laid in bed for a year, I moved out because I could not stand it. He refused to admit that if his Mother was not best friends with the wife of the president of his current employer he would not have a job period, The whole time I was checking in the hospital for my surgery, I kept thinking that everyone must be thinking why is she getting this surgery and not him. I was actually surprised that someone did not say something to him in some round about way. Kids point at him and make comments in public and yet he shovels in more food despite the kid who just said "Mommy" look at that fat man!" I realize it is easier for me being on the other side now to be critical of his food choices, but yes in all honesty losing the weight has made it so I see him in a very negative light now and I do not know what the future holds. I walk the fine line of trying to get him to have the surgery and not nagging him every day. At some point I think It will boil down to what I can accept any more and perhaps leaving him.

Sleeved and more confused than ever!
myrori replied to mythreechildren2001's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just tune into YOUR body. Stop worrying about what others do or don't do and listen to your bodiy's clues If you listen for full it will tell you. The first few days are doing what you can, not about what your "supposed" to do so much. Go slow, check in mentally with your new tummy and go from there. These days are about hydration, not protien. -
Unsupportive mother :(
myrori replied to VSG4aHealthierMe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have come to the conclusion that the nay sayers and negative people about wls surgery are really speaking from their sub conscious and their own insecurities about themselves! The big people are scared to see you succeed because they feel bad they don't have what it takes to take control and the skinny people don't want see you change because in some sick way they get satisfaction of "being the better one". It all boils down to this, YOU have to do what YOU need to do! This surgery and the subsequent weight loss has to be about what YOU and YOU alone WANT for YOU! If you look to others for approval you are setting yourself up for failure. This has to be about you and YOU ALONE! -
My hair did not thin till the 7 month mark, and then it did it with a VENGEANCE! I had to by buy a hair piece just to feel better! It it hard, but I figure a small price to pay for the health and weight loss I have achieved!

This is what I call breaking up with food -
I broke my foot (cuboid bone) last week and it is driving me nuts! I see people riding their bikes and I so want to be them! I want to go to the YMCA and do Yoga and Strength and conditioning! Please help remember this is a temporary bump in the road! On top of it all I got that TOM and gained 4 pounds like over night! I know, I know, it is water weight and the pain meds making me hold on to water weight!

Whoo HOO Happy Dance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
-
I am 47 and i was in the hospital 3 days. i could have come home day 2 if I had not had ???? ;it was like a spasm in my esophagus or diaphragm that required me to me watched one more night and needing injections of pain meds. Day 4 I felt pretty much better but not normal, I went to an auction that night but was ready for bed early! I took a month off because it was Christmas time and I did not want deal with all the food at work, but truth be told at 2 weeks I was would have been ready to go back physically,k but I would have been tired at the end of an 8 hour shift. Hell I was tired at the end of 8 hours at a month out! When I hit the wall I kept reminding myself this was just simply a means to an end... the end being weight loss and the ability to KEEP it off!

How long will I need help?
myrori replied to Geeewhy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, that one differs for everyone. If you have had surgery before, then you might be a little more mentally prepped for what is to come. I too am more comfortable by myself and doing for myself. Other than needing someone to clean up a bit... Ie vacuuming, laundry I was fine on day 3 by myself. I have prepared before hand and had all foods, clothes, medical supplies handy from the room I planed on spending most of my time in. I slept in the relcliner the first week. I kept my cell phone on my at all times just in case. No mind you it was just me and my pets to take care of, kids would have been a whole different ball game!
