Solid food on hold - indefinitely?
myrori replied to FatJuicyMouse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As your dentist about a flipper. I was able to wear it with in 2 weeks of my extraction. It is simlar to dentures but covers the pallet of your mouth to be held in. I had to have my cut down extreemly to be comfortable but it works well with dental adisive and helps with chewing. It is a less expensive temp fix and looks like you have real teeth in the mean time! When my issurance kicks back in neck year I will get a permant fix. -

Migraine Headaches
myrori replied to twoboysandagirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had migraines for over 20 years. I use Imitrex nasal spray and it has been a life saver. I have not had to go to the ER for shots for over a year now! -
Congrats, my husband needs the surgery himself, badly, but that is another story. His biggest fear is me "getting skinny" and leaving him behind. I told him it was not about skinny, it was about healthy. He has been less then supportive.

How have folks handled needing new clothes as the weight goes away? I have lost 40 pound pre op and had to get a pair of jean that would not fall down, but i am thinking that this could get expensive as the weight comes off. I hate to spend a lot on things I will not wear for more than a couple of months. Some folks suggested Goodwill, but the thought of wearing a strangers things kinda bugs me. What did you all do??? Believe me when I reach goal, I will splurge on a new wardrobe! (FYI) I wear uniforms at work so work clothes are not an issue.

I am getting sleeved on Nov 23, my anxiety comes in the form of dreams. When the doubts creep up, I remind myself that I have to do this, blood pressure, back pain pre diabetic. I do not want what my parents ended up with.

Does anyone know if sugar free Jello is acceptable on the liquid diet? I made it through yesterday, about 7 PM got real bad when my sister when out to "WENDYS" for her family. I politely excused myself and went to the store to shop for calorie free drinks to curb the hunger. My Nut said sugar free jello is part of the clear liquid after diet so I was just wondering if it is cool ion the pre op.

why 2 and a half weeks of nothing by mouth??? -
I am scheduled for Nov 23rd, (yeah so much for Thanksgiving). Any way my dilemma is with my kids, they are 18 and 22. They do not live with me and I am not sure I want to share with them as there is an ex husband component and I feel they will tell him and I just don't want him to have any knowledge of this surgery what so ever, I consider it a personal journey. I know they will tell him if I tell them, BUT obvousily I am going to miss Thanksgiving this year and I am considering telling them I have the flu that day. Then there are the people I work with. I have shared with one close coworker, however my work set up is that we have to eat at our work desks and there is one other lady in our room who will obviously notice I am not eating what I used to anymore. I am nervous about telling her because she has always been a snide person who makes comments about peoples weights and judges what they eat. I have been dieting and have taken off 40 pounds recently, so the additional weight loss will not be hard to explain to those who don't see me eating differently. So while I am very excited I have a date, I am have these few issues I am not sure what to do with. Any all advice is welcome.

I wear a belt every day! Work uniform. I know it helps, but will only take you so far. I was getting so embarrassed by my saggy pants at work I finally demanded two pair and they felt SOOO much better when I put then on. I will probably breakdown and go to Goodwill at some point, I hate shopping period!

My doctor says liquid diet too, they wanted me to buy 2 bags of Bariatric Advantage from their office for 135 bucks and it sells for 49.95 on the website. I printed out the nutritional info and took it to The Vitamin shop and got a nearly identical product for 24 bucks. I am wondering why a portion of plain chicken would hurt though? No carbs, high Protein. Oh well I will stick to the liquid, then I can't blame myself if my liver is still big.

Saftey pin anyone???

Thanks all, well I told my daughter and I believe it is the right thing. I still have not decided about my son. Since they all live on their own, no one will come looking for me, hell my son did not even call on my bday last week, but as I said he is 18, nuff said. Steph, yes very interesting ( if that is what you want to call them) personalities. The word I use starts with "B". If I have survived 10 years of them, I can survive this for sure. I have decided that I am not going to tell folks, but will not lie if asked at work, the nay sayers can all go to ................. where there goes that dispatcher personality again

My Sleeve Journey to Mexico!
myrori replied to tamboo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Great story Tammy. I had started reading it earlier and become so engrossed in it that I was almost late to my pre op appointment! So now that I am home from doctor and picking up some wonderful liquid diet mix (day one for me) I had to come back and finish reading and tell you Thank you for sharing. You really had a trip to get your surgery! I am thankful I have insurance and will be in a hospital close to home and all the tests will be done in one place. Mexico can be scary if you have never experienced other countries before. Please keep us updated! -
My daughter has tri care west and they covered her for the Gastric bypass, I would say just call a doctor in the area who does the surgery and ask about your insurance. The doctors office KNOWS who and who does not cover what, thats their paycheck!

I have no experience yet as I am pre sleeve, but I was wondering about those energy shots, the ones with vitamins,,not sugar or caffeine?

Don't be discouraged, weight comes off of ALL places, not just our gut. It took me 40 pounds to need new pants, but what I did not realize and think this is where pics and measuring will help you is that you will see a difference in your face, chin, neck, arms, upper chest ( Steve I know you don't have this problem, but I am a bra size smaller) butt and thighs and hips. I had been wearing the same size pants for 10 years, yet had gained about 50 pounds in that time, so going by clothes size can be very deceptive, you really have to look at the WHOLE picture (body). Chin up! 54 pounds is a wonderful achievement!
