blood in sinus secretions is normal with infection. My guess is with a cold you have coughed and or sneezed and pulled a muscle.

Today I am getting SLEEVED!!!

Congrats! Welcome the newbie sleeved group! -
First off, if she were to let you go for having a procedure, well that just would scream law suit to any one, but the fact you think she might think that way maybe a cautionary red flag in your decision process. I did not tell my boss, but I do not work for a company I work for municipality. I used Fmla time to protect myself and I owed no one any further explanation that FMLA time. I had told a couple of folks where I work and I have no doubt that my bosses now know the reason for my leave, but the hell with them. They were always ready to judge my weight, they will still be there judging my weight or weight loss it is just the environment I work in. For example one time I had a muscle spasm in my neck and my boss told me if I lost weight it would help the spasm????? Ah hello the spasm would be long gone before I could lose weight. That is the kinda off crap I heard for 10 years there. I had unsolicited diets given to me, critiques of my lunches ect. When I dropped 50 pounds before surgery, not one word from them. Wow I think that belongs under rants and raves Any who you are protected if you use fmla time if you need additional time off.

That is interesting, one of the things suggested by my nut for the mushies was refried beans.

Thanks Flygirl! -
Welcome ! I just had my sleeve 5 days ago and the insurance jump hoop game is so fresh in my mind. I will never forget the feeling when I fulfilled last requirement, once I had that clearance in my hand I felt like a I won a million bucks!

I had this before surgery! It is definitely is from the protein drinks. Without getting too descriptive I had to have my cousin bring me suppositories and stool softener at work as I was in so much pain. I had to physically manipulate things to relieve myself. I then called the doctor asap, and was told in increase water, like that is possible post op and miralax also. I was warned to never let it get like that again as it was the beginning of an impaction.

I have one small sugar pumpkin left and I googled for ideas of something healthy to make with it and I came across this recipe. Any ideas on what to replace the sugar with??? My recipe binder has several versions; all basically crustless pumpkin pie. What makes it “light” is the absence of that crust, plus the use of Fat Free Evaporated Milk. Make this some time with fresh pumpkin when in season. For now, I don’t think it is too early for holiday flavors like Pumpkin Custard (and it’s great Breakfast food). Larry knows better than to take more than one serving. It’s really, truly all mine! And it is all gone. Light Pumpkin Custard 1/2 cup sugar 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves 2 large eggs 1 can (15 oz.) pumpkin 1 can (14 oz.) can evaporated fat free milk Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a small bowl, mix sugar, cinnamon, salt, ginger and cloves. In a medium bowl, beat eggs slightly, stir in pumpkin to blend, and sugar mixture. Slowly fold in evaporated milk. Spray a pie dish with non-stick spray, pour batter into dish. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean (middle may wiggle just a little). Cool, eat at room temperature or refrigerated. Makes 6 to 8 servings.

I have to take them for 10 days post op, I am on day 5 and I have bruises every where! One that especially annoying is on my wrist where they did a blood gas draw day 2 and now the bruise that started out small and round in crawling down my wrist and hurts. Do you think the bruising should be something to worry about or is it normal?

Congrats! I got sleeved the day after you and it sounds like we had very similar experiences. I had to stay and extra day because of pain from my diaphragm area and I also had shoulder pain until last night. I did find getting out and about did help last night as far as feeling better, but I really feel sore today from it. -
Congrats! I too have wonder about you sleevers that talk about no pain and how easy it was. I am not going to say it was hard, but I had pain! It was taken care of with meds but I have to admit I would never have been able to fly so soon. I had to stay in the hospital an extra day because of pain. I had a cough that felt like I ripped my insides out and my diaphragm was in in a constant spasm afterward, I needed my pains meds that night like crazy. So I do wonder what is so different for some, is it a surgery technique or the individual? I am day 5 and I still need some liquid vicodin here and there.

Omg this is harder than I thought
myrori replied to lisabug's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ps, I have to admit on the pre op diet it was all consuming in the head too as well are real hunger. I did stray a couple times, I had salad twice because the protein was constipating me and one night I had chicken fajitas minus the tortilla. So If I did cheat, i cheated healthy. When my doubts took over I reminding myself of all the reason I needed the sleeve, pre diabetes, high blood pressure, herniated disks and a bum knee and that was enough to remind me the getting the sleeve was not an option, it was a necessity for health. -

I can attest to the post op being easier. It took me 8 hours to get in 6 ounce of Protein drink yesterday and I have to remind myself to drink it. If not for thirst I would forget to even drink as there is NO hunger what so ever. I had my first case of head hunger yesterday 4 days out and it was triggered by seeing some of my fave junk food being eaten by others, each time I thought how good that would be the following thoughts occurred: That looks good, that would taste good, your stomach is raw with a new staple line, check with the stomach confirms no physical hunger,,, end of thoughts. Don't forget that when struggling you have outlets, like here, your nutritionist and counseling and support groups are all additional tools, make sure you use them! -
I was going to ask my doc how much he took out, but I never seen him (holiday) I just seen his partners the rest of my stay. I am going to ask him when I go for my check up this week.

5 days Post Op and a little confused
myrori posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have my nutrition folder and It says full liquids for 2 weeks post op. It suggest things like Protein drinks for Breakfast and creamed Soups for lunch and dinner. However it took me 8 hours yesterday to finish about 6 oz of Protein Drink. I am sipping Gatorade and Vitamin Water too. What should my goals be??? 2 oz of protein drink? and then some Soup later? I am just not sure I am doing this right. Yesterday all day I got was 200 calories in and maybe 20 grams of protein. I am almost scared to try anything like pudding with protein, it just seems to thick in mind right now. -
The Official What You Will Need For Your Upcoming Weightloss Surgery Thread!

Ear Plugs. They saved my sanity. The hospital was so loud and noisy as well as my room mate her family. I sent my husband out for the gas ex strips, nose spray and tweezers( something about surgery sent my few annoying facial hairs to grow overtime) I did need my robe, but stayed in the hospital gowns and used the slipper socks they put on me before surgery. They gave me a cough bear that they put a tshirt on with the hospital logo and the name Bari Bear on it. (not sure if I like that bariatic term on it) and it was huge in helping walking and getting up and coughing. -
I have to agree with the above, practice now for latter.

No matter what Big Bad tool you get, they will all require work form you. A tool is a tool nothing more, used improperly will quit working. -
Don't get down Rhonda. I am on Day 3 post op and ended up spending and extra night in the hospital do to pain. I think from the descriptions on here I am going to a slow healer too. I am fortuanate enough to have disability and I am not real worried about going back and will take all the time I need. Sorry you have the pain in your chest, call your doc and see what can be done.

One Week to Go... and I'm thinking of Chickening OUt
myrori replied to rain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get why your husband is upset, he feels left out. Even if he never comes around on this issue you have to decide just how bad you want change. Sure I tried telling myself a few times, hey you have lost 50 pounds already you can do this, but then I told myself the truth. If I could do it without surgery I would not be fat right now. I had to remind myself many times of the real effects of the weight on my health, pre diabetic, back and knee pain, high cholesterol and High blood pressure. Sure it is a LOT more comforting to tell myself I can do this alone and at my pace, but I know where that thinking has gotten me all these years. Now for the pain and nausea your are scared of,,,I just came home from the hospital today and I did not get sick once, every time I felt ill I told the nurse and they were right there with the shot for nausea. As for the pain, sure there is pain as with any surgical procedure. It sounds like I had more than most folks, but I was at a hospital and the minute I told them I needed something and they brought it. It was never uncontrolled. I still have pain now that I am home, but I have the liquid vicodin for it and it is not forever. I look at this way No pain, no gain. For a few days of pain I will gain health and and nice looking body. -
Home now, was delayed by a day because of pain the 2nd night. I now have ownership over my hunger! It no longer owns me!

Well Tuesday is fast approaching, I am excited and nervous all in one. It seems like it was such a long trip to get here that I need to readjust from looking forward to a life changing procedure to looking forward to the changes. Does that sound weird??? the goal for so long was just getting a date and now that the date is here there is a need to shift my focus??? Last night was WEIRD dream night, I know if is my subconscious working things out but I kept dreaming I as at various places and I would catch myself just eating what ever was in front of me and then panic and run to spit it out. I tell I may need Valium by tomorrow night!

Thanks VSgirl. They ended up giving me more of the iv medicine til the next morning, I heard 2 possible things, an esphosigial spasm or a diaphram spasm. Either way it is gone and I am home!
