    want to rant

I feel bad when people feel like they can't eat because I can't. I have made it perfectly clear to go ahead get what they want. I am responsible to myself. I wanted change, they did not sign up for that change so I should not expect them to. The other day I met a girlfriend for Christmas shopping and lunch. She ordered what she wanted and I had Soup and 2 tsps of her mashed potatoes mixed in the broth. At first she said she felt bad eating in front of me and I told her to stop right there, I wanted this, this is MY situation and that she should not alter her eating based on what I can or can not eat. That relieved all the tension. It takes all my concentration to get in my few spoons of mushies, I can not even worry about the other food around me. I take a bite, make sure it is mushed enough, then swallow and then wait for it to settle in the right place to be able to take another spoonful. That process is all consuming and so filling that the food around me hold not interest for me. I decided long before the surgery when I was practicing my liquid diet that this was on me, I decided it and could not and would not make others who ate around me feel bad about it, and I told myself I have a goal and I want health so much that I was not going to waste time envying others food or ability to eat what ever came their way. For me it all boils down to how bad I want weight loss. Sure things smell good and then I remind myself of the goal and how far I have come and it the food is not a problem after that.
  2. I hope so also. Perhaps when they see other insurance companies jumping on board as they are they will start covering it. Does Tri care have an appeal process??? Maybe you could show how all the other private insurances are covering it now and the latest study that it is effective? Best luck to you.

    Going A Little Crazy

While my husband was never dead set against my surgery, he was and still not supportive. When he came at me with you have lost 50 pounds already why not just keep going, I sat down and wrote him a letter about why I felt I need the surgery and the reasons I wanted. He backed off then but still does not "get it". It really all boils down to his own insecurities. I wish you luck and keep the faith. You do what you have to do for YOU.

    Swelling

I think about day 7 I noticed a difference in the surgical swelling. I am day 14 and and I still wear sweats at home as my one incision on the left is still fairly sore.
  5. Sorry you have run into these complications. Prayers are sent your way.
  6. I am sorry, she was actually referred to Columbia Mo and it was a civilian hospital. She has Tri Care West and they paid the bill 100% for her bypass.

    Serious Contemplation

I too lost 50 pound pre op and not once did I ever consider NOT getting the sleeve for that reason. (Plenty of people had their opinion about "if you can lose that why get the sleeve). For me, I knew that if in 47 years I never managed to loose and KEEP it off I knew I needed the sleeve as a tool to keep it off for the rest of my life. I am 2 weeks post op and I am very happy with it and excited about the future. If you trusted your surgeon, you should trust his word about his new replacements.
  9. My Daughter is military and she was referred out to a doctor in St Louis MO about 3 hours from her in Missouri. They don't have any big military hospitals there.
  10. I am not sure what slider foods are, but I am 2 weeks post op and I can tell I CANT eat more 4tlbs of food at a time if that. For example, today for the first time I went out to the Mall with my friend at lunch time. I offered to have lunch somewhere that had soup. We went in a place and she ordered meat loaf and mashed potatoes that came with chicken noodle soup. I mixed about 2 tbl spoons of potatoes with about a 3rd cup of broth and I was completely satisfied with that. Sure her meat loaf looked great when it was put on the table, but I that's it, looked good. I had no desire to dig in and when I was almost finished with the potatoes/soup mix I was more than satisfied and could not finish the last two bites.
  11. I have BCBS of IL PPO and I was approved in August no problems. I do not know what their requirements are but my bmi was 41 with co morbilities.

    GRRRR!!!!! Big day on hold

Sorry to hear that, I know would have been crushed. You sound like you have a good perspective. Best of luck on getting it done next week!
  13. I belong to another travel related forum that is a bit like a family type atmosphere, (we all go to the same place yearly and meet up), so any way one person who had been out of a job for a while posted she got a new one and it was a bridal center. Every one joked because tact is not her thing. Well then she posts after one day she was out of there since the size 46 bride came in expecting her to make her look skinny in a dress. Well then the posts started about fat people, fitting this object in to that ect....... Well I posted " I hate to see you all really think about heavy people on this forum." Not a word, just more jokes. I just feel this is incredibly insensitive of them considering I know there a few of us on the forum that fight the fight. I am actually considering cancelling our tirp this year as my husband is large and not ready to deal with his weight just yet and although I might be down quite a bit by the time of the trip I do think I like these people much anymore, not to mention I don't want my husband hurt by them. Am I being too sensitive given I am just 9 days post op or do I have valid feelings here?
  14. My thoughts before??? Well I was scheduled for 4 pm on the 23rd, then they called at 6pm on the 22nd and said to be there at 530 AM! I was like Cr@@! I had this whole list of things I was going to do around the house to keep me busy. I made lots of Jello before I went, and made sure I had Soups and oolong tea in the house. I slept suprising well the night before, got up and showered and headed to the hosptial. I think I stayed fairly detached from feelings as I was like ok lets get this done! The the doctor was late so I sat in the pre op bed playing with my phone in between things they came to do to me,,, ( iv, bp, weight, anesthesiologist) Then the doc finally showed up and he said see yo in about 20 minutes, then the nurses came and put 3 drugs in my IV,, I never seen the doc again I vaguely remember him waking me up enough to tell me that the surgery went a perfect as it could and then the next thing I remember is waking up in my regular room.
  15. I have one incision on the left side of my abdomen that is still quiet sore and painful, it that normal this far out? It feels almost raw law, but there is no rawness on the skin, if I keep moving around after the raw feeling starts then I just get plain sore to painful. This feeling is right under the skin, not deep inside so I don't think it is a leak and I have no fever or other symptoms.

    Chickening Out

Ok for those of you who have had no prior surgeries, I get your fear. Let me share this with you.. I have had 3 knee operations, 4 csections, gallbladder and Achilles tendon done in the past and most recently I had the sleeve done. I would guess that shows the odds are in your favor of coming through the surgery just fine.

    "Full" pains---questions

How long do the spasms last? I had this horrid pain in the hospital, it happened after an unexpected cough. I thought it was a diaphram spasm as the pain was horizontal right under my lungs. I heard a nurse whisper to another one about esophageal spasm but they never said it to me directly. I had to go back on the iv pain med that night and the pain lasted for about 6 hours. The next morning I felt like I had been punched around the rib cage over and over. No one seemed overly concerned, but it was painful and I don't want that again.
  19. Why only 400 a day? Every thing I read and have been told 7 to 800 a day is the norm. Did you have a hernia or something repaired that requires liquids for so long?
  20. Best of luck! Keep us posted.
  21. Could it possibly be acid from being empty for the night? Or perhaps you need a small snack late before bed to keep your tiny stomach satisfied?

    Hibernation Syndrome

Hang in there Dawn. The fist week I lost 3 pounds and stayed there. Then all of the sudden in 3 days I have lost 5 pounds? Crazy right?
  23. myrori

    Afraid I'm eating to much!

You have lost 65 pound in 4 months, say that out loud to yourself. It takes most folks about a year to loose 50 pounds with no surgery. Purging is a sign of other issues going on and I really think you need to talk to someone so it does not become a physical or emotional issue.
