Pain when taking deep breath.. help please.
myrori replied to itscometothis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like you may have pulled something. left side of the body no major organs. Could be trapped gas, pulled muscle, things healing. I would try a heating pad and only worry if the pain become constant with a fever. -

Am I Insane???? I have surgery on Tues with Dr Kelly and am starting to FREAK....
myrori replied to Pinkbetty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
. I'm starting to FREAK out. Is this normal? VERY Normal! We all have the doubts and anxiety before hand! What if I die? You have a greater risk of dieing just driving your car. End up in ICU? With the simplest surgery something could go wrong, chances are it wont! This is really a very straight forward short procedure. End up not wanting to eat ever again? Trust me you will want to eat! The body tells you when it is hungry. It just feels different and you have total control that you did not have before. Freedom from food! I need to stop freaking out..... Did any of you go through this? YES YES YES And what is WRONG with me that I'm not normal and thin like my friends... I used to be... Had a baby... In a word, hormones. Things went to heck in handbasket, body-wise. I need to calm down. BTW, I'm a single mom. If I die, my three yr old is left with his just his dad. Any advice would be so loved! This board is awsome btw. You will be FINE! -
Here is an alternative I use,, I go to a convience store or gas station that has the small nuggets of ice for fountain drinks, by the largest Styrofoam cup and add SF Tourani Syrup and it last all day and curbs the desire!

I have heard of it being done before, but here is a easier option,, did you have your weight documented anywhere before the weight loss?

New NSV's, but not sure how I feel about some.....
myrori posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I work for a village and that has several departments in different buildings. Last night all the departments came together for National Night out against crime and I got to see some people for the first time since my surgery. One lady who I have know for over 20 years looked at me, her jaw dropped and she said to me Where is the other person you used to tote around,, I laughed and said I lost her somewhere. Then another lady jumps up and said "OMG" you look great! What are you doing. I simply said Protein first, then a veggie less than 40 carbs a day and working out... I wasn't lying, but I was omitting. Obviously the word had not reached public works and I did not feel like sharing in such a public place.. Then a lady from the Fire Department Says Look at you, you are wasting away to nothing! Now I know she meant well, but at 153 pounds I am hardly wasting away. I know she knows about the surgery. Then this morning my Sergeant comes to me (he struggles with his weight) and says to me,, a lot of people are worried about you,, you are getting so thin you will blow away. Of course that shook me after the wasting away comment and I went to a close co worker who has known and supported me from day and asked if I looked sick or drawn and she got a a screwed up look on her face and said NO, I then explained the comments and that I was just checking because I know I do not have the ability to REALLY objectively look at myself ( I will always be fat). She said it is just his insecurities about his own weight coming out and I do not look sick, nor has she heard "concern" for my health and trust me she is one of those folks you go to if you want to know the rumor mill. So then tonight I go to a Physical therapy session for the first time in over a year for a rotator cuff injury to a place that had seen me at 271 pounds for bulging lumbar disks. Now there I had a little fun. Clearly the owner who had worked on me before was like, I know you, but I just can not place you......................... It was fun to see his face and I am going to see how long it takes if ever for him to put it together. I think I had more fun with it because you PT folk are into fitness and clearly respond to people who work out with more positiveness. Well I wore my work out out fit, rode my bike there and parked it inside(it is expensive) so they could not help but notice and they were all like, Not to many our clients show up here while working out getting to their therapy. Can you say Grin, Grin Grin:) And for the very First TIME IN MY LIFE I DID NOT MIND LOOKING in the mirror during my exercises to check my arm position and well checking me out. (YES I can still pick myself apart, but over all I like what I see compared to a year ago!) So is that a conundrum of feelings or what?? -
Solid numbers to show how my health has improved
myrori posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My cholesterol used to be off the charts crazy, triglycerides through the roof. Today my doc told me he does not have any other patients with numbers as good as mine! At 4 months post op my Lipid profile was as follows: Triglycerides 101 HdL 52 ldl 113 Total cholesterol 185 Now at 8 months Triglycerides 55 HDL 114 Ldl 66 Total cholesterol 191 So if you are not sure what all that means here is some info: LDL (low density lipoprotein cholesterol, also called "bad" cholesterol) HDL (high density lipoprotein cholesterol, also called "good" cholesterol) Triglycerides (fats carried in the blood from the food we eat. Excess calories, alcohol, or sugar in the body are converted into triglycerides and stored in fat cells throughout the body.) Results of your blood test will come in the forms of numbers. Here is how to interpret your cholesterol numbers: LDL Cholesterol LDL cholesterol can build up on the walls of your arteries and increase your chances of getting heart disease. That is why LDL cholesterol is referred to as "bad" cholesterol. The lower your LDL cholesterol number, the better it is for your health. The table below explains what the numbers mean. LDL Cholesterol LDL-Cholesterol Category Less than 100 Optimal 100 - 129 Near optimal/above optimal 130 - 159 Borderline high 160 - 189 High 190 and above Very high If you have heart disease or blood vessel disease, some experts recommend that you should try to get your LDL cholesterol below 70. For people with diabetes or other multiple risk factors for heart disease, the treatment goal is to reach an LDL of less than 100. HDL Cholesterol When it comes to HDL cholesterol -- "good" cholesterol -- the higher the number, the better it is for your health. This is because HDL cholesterol protects against heart disease by taking the "bad" cholesterol out of your blood and keeping it from building up in your arteries. The table below explains what the numbers mean. HDL Cholesterol HDL-Cholesterol Category 60 and above High; Optimal; helps to lower risk of heart disease Less than 40 in men and less than 50 in women Low; considered a risk factor for heart disease Triglycerides Triglycerides are the chemical form in which most fat exists in food and the body. A high triglyceride level has been linked to the occurrence of coronary artery disease in some people. Here's the breakdown. Triglycerides Triglyceride Category Less than 150 Normal 150 - 199 Borderline high 200 - 499 High 500 or higher Very high Total Cholesterol Your total blood cholesterol is a measure of LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and other lipid components. Doctors recommend total cholesterol levels below 200 Total Cholesterol Category Less than 200 Desirable 200 - 239 Borderline High 240 and above High So basically my bad cholesterol and bad triglycerides have been cut in half and my good cholesterol has doubled! All to the benefit of diet and exercise! -
I had a tomato I need to use up but I was really sick of eating them raw so I go creative and sliced them up, coated them with garlic and olive oil then topped them with Parmesan cheese. Through them on the grill until the cheese was melted, They were AWESOME!

Question for you all about complication
myrori posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Recently I fired my WLS surgeon, and for the time being my PCP is following me. Twice now he has said to me that I am at greater risk for lung collapse. So yesterday I said to him, "Even 8 months post op?" and he said yes. Now I know he is out of his realm here, but is he right? I can see shortly after surgery and if I had a leak but forever? Any one else ever heard of this? -
I know what you mean! Mine DL has said 230 forever! Even when I was 271. I was just looking at it yesterday when I went to the bank and had to show it (the guy did a double take) and it does not expire till 2013 and it costs 30 bucks for a new one here so I will let it ride.

Question for you all about complication
myrori replied to myrori's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree right after the surgery there is a risk, but not 8 months later! Like I said he is my PCP, not my surgeon and I think he spouting off facts he is really has not educated himself on. Honestly I believe I have spent more time reseaching the subject of VSG than he has. I went to all the lung doctor tests pre op and I was cleared just fine, I have never smoked and have no other problems I know of. I think it is just him trying to sound all important like, He giving me the lecture at my appointment of how important it is for me to take Vitamins, excersise ect and then he throughs in there you know all gastric bypass, ( I corrected him) at risk of lung collapse. Clearly he is speaking out of turn here. -
A tender moment with my Dad that I'll never forget...
myrori replied to TwoStepsBack's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
That is special! I often wish my Dad were here to see what I have done and how far I have come. I am sure he looks down from Heaven and smiles, as I know he was always concerned for me. -

Give it time, you are swollen and healing, You don't want them putting anything down there to irratate things further. Each day will get better. Are you using the little medicine cups they gave you in the hospital? We can not gauge how much liquid we put in our mouths with out them. I was told one medicine cup every 30 minutes and all would be fine.

Feel Dumb for Not Having 'Food Funeral'
myrori replied to loribug's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
You are all the better for not having a food funeral! Think about how much less you have to loose post op! It shows resolve and certain success with the sleeve! Trust me when i tell you a few months into the sleeve food will not longer be a focus for you and you wont miss it! -
A PRE-OP VICTORY YEAH FOR ME
myrori replied to SmokyMtnGal2011's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congrats! Just proves you are more than ready for sleeve! -
It will decrease in intensity and frequency, but my experience is that burping is my new norm at 8 months. I have found all kinds of creative ways to burp quietly:)
-
You now it is funny, but my daughter craved pickles right out of gastric bypass and I craved them after the sleeve. I think it is because we decrease our sodium intake so much with the post op diet and feel the need to crunch too! I believe I ate a pickle slice at about 6 weeks. I would say try one at home, take a small bite and chew chew chew, wait 15-20 minutes and you will know then if you are going to slime or hurt. Just have one! if you tolerate it and go from there.
