6 Month Post-op Carb-free Diet?
myrori replied to My Big Day 3/15/2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You don't miss the carbs after surgery. in the beginning you can not get bread down and would your really be drinking or eating sugary foods? At 3 months a typical day for me is the following: Protein shake 3 carbs Greek yogurt 5 carbs chicken breast or tuna lunch,, after a few bites of the meat there is no room for bread or much else protein shot 0 carbs chicken or turkey for dinner and maybe a bite or two of broccoli. There really is just not a lot of room and you want to put quality calories in, not ones with carbs that will raise your blood sugar and slow weight loss. While you may think you will miss food, the fact is you are so totally full that you will not miss it. -
At one month I was able to swallow pills really well so I just bought calcium citrate at Walmart. I got 500 of them for 6 dollars. I will continue to order my Vitamins from celebrate or Bariatric Advantage, but for calcium, Iron and b-12 I am going generic.

Proof that even thogh the scale is not moving you are losing
myrori posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
So for the last month I went up 4 pounds and then took a month to get down to 191 where I was when my weight shot up. Now the last week I have seen 188,189 and 190 on the scale different mornings,. Well as of today I had to ask for smaller pants in my work uniform as the waist and butt where clearly starting to hang all of the sudden even though the DAMN scale is not giving me any encouragement. While it feels good to know my pants got too big, it is till a mind mess to deal with the numbers on the scale. -

I tell the nurse when I go to the doc I have to weigh in room one! I will even wait for that room to open. I hate to use a scale that says I gained! I have found they are all different. -
You are so rocking the sleeve!

So here is 1/3 of the chicken philly sandwich (minus the bread i told them to keep)I got for dinner last night. I ate about 4 bites at the restaurant ate the tips of one broccoli and about a 1/2 cup of french onion soup/ no cheese for dinner. So when I got home I split the chicken breast again and put the other piece in the freezer and brought one the to work. This is pretty typical for my meals now at 3 months. "> For Breakfast: 1 Premier Protein shake Snack: Greek Yogurt Lunch: as pictured above Snack: Protein Shot or bar Dinner: will be some type of meat about one ounce with a salad.

Approved today! Now I am scared!!!
myrori replied to Sheila RN's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I found 2 kinds of co workers who said that to me. The first type was the person who was just trying to be nice, The second were those that were threatened in some form by my losing weight. I think they thought if they were not as big as me than they were ok. The nice people have been 100 percent supportive and give me compliments, the threatened people either don't talk to me about my weight loss or went on crash diets. Three months later I am still eating well and losing, they are not. Bottom line, this was for ME and no one else. I was sick of feeling gross, tired, back pain ect............. Now I look in the mirror and I LIKE what I see and I feel one hundred percent better! My starting BMI as 38 . -
You will find you can eat a lot more soft (slider) food than you can dense food (chicken breast). You are NOT over eating. Measure out your calories and it will reassure you. You can use fatsecret.com. they have every food and portion known to man on there. You are aiming for 6 to 800 calories a day.

I thought I heard some folks getting one, I personally would not want to be awake for that at all! Check with your personal surgeon, if they are being done, it is a very small percentage.

JustFran, No I did not. Look at my under my ticker. I was at 271 in Jan of last year, I lost 51pounds on my own and with the 2 week pre op. So I am down 33 since surgery.. I am a bit frustrated with that number, but I have been told because I lost before hand my body is fighting me as 33 pounds in 3 months is a lot. I keep reminding myself it took me a9 months to lose 31 dieting and a liquid diet of 2 weeks to lose 20 more. I just get frustrated for the last month here that I was down to 191, started the birth control pill and shot back up to 195 in less than a week, I quit the pill 2 weeks later and took 3 weeks to lose that 4 pounds I gained in a few days. Now I have hovering at 188-9 and 190 daily . I have been told this is normal, I upped my calories because I was only getting about 550 and I added some Omegas supplements also as my diet was so low fat that can stall you too. i am just frustrated that every thing was moving so nicely and then now I watch the scale play games daily.

Can pureed foods go down too easy
myrori replied to PatrickG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
all things carbs will go down too easy, raise your blood sugar fast a and make you hungry all over again. Meals should be Protein based. Puree some chicken or turkey and eat that. Stay away from noodles and dumplings. When you start to eat meets you will notice they hang around longer and fill you up aLOT faster! -
If you are really bound up Mirlax can take 6 days to work and if it it really bad you may to consider and enema in addition.

Does your metabolism slow down?
myrori replied to weho's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes it does, especially if you don't get enough calories in and as your weight drops your basic metabolic rates drops also. -
For the first time in my life I am layering clothes.

You will find some foods go down better than others. They told me if something did not agree with the sleeve or got stuck to leave it and try it again at least a week later. At three weeks I was on soft foods, yogurt, eggs, cottage cheese, puddings. Up unitll 6 weeks out I had to be careful with each new food and take little little bits, chew chew chew and let each bite go down and see how it settled before more food went in the mouth. I had 2 stuck episodes early out at 5 and 6 weeks that resulted in vomiting, just slowing down and watching foods is all to do until you are more healed and less swollen.

I did not like it, to me it was like drinking 20 oz of a protein shot and getting less protein.

Thank you everyone! -
YES!!! Great feeling hah?

Exactly how my story went, ALL POSITIVES after just fessing up. Too stressful being quiet. I get though in the beginning why folks want to keep it secret, because they have enough of their own feeling to process let alone what others feel.

Papi Chulo will be doing it again!
myrori replied to papi chulo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations! Welcome to the forum and loser bench:) I understand your divorce with food if very difficult emotionally. Let me just tell you that you may think you will feel deprived when you can only eat a little bit, HOWEVER you know that feeling you got when you had a large, satisfying meal? Well now you will get that full satisfied feeling after a few bites, you will not desire more food and you will walk away with a full tummy WITHOUT that OMG I ate too much and I feel like a guilty pig feeling. It is GREAT to feel full, in control and not guilty! -
Why did he tell everyone??
myrori replied to 2*the*new*me's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I understand your sense of betrayal. I felt like it was a very private thing in the beginning, but that got too hard for me to keep in quiet in the sense that I felt like I would have to tell too many white lies to keep up appearances. I ended up just telling anyone who asked, what a relief! I work with some of the most judgmental people out there (cops) and no one has been waiting to see me fail, even some of the guys at work tell me how good I am looking and that even my skin and hair look better. As for men understanding or listening,,,, well here is my experience with that. My daughter had bypass last year, her husband looked it the day AFTER she had it done. My husband, to this day could not tell a soul what I had done other than I had surgery. Most ( back down men on this board, I do not mean you) men are just plain thick. They cant emotionally grasp anything unless it is happening to them. -
From 1-18 to 2-14 I was stalled, I had actually gone up 4 pounds from 191 to 195 when I started the pill, I stopped it 2 weeks later but took until 2-14 to get back down to 191. Well FINALLY today I hit the 189 mark! AMEN! Goodbye 190's and the month from hell! The scale is moving again! I think the last time I weighed this amount was in my senior year of high school, some 20 years ago! This is my 3 month mark and I have to tell you I have never felt better! I am off all blood pressure meds and metformin, I was taking 5 pills a day before surgery. My back and sciatica no longer scream at me on a daily basis and I just plain feel GOOD! Can't wait to go on vacation somewhere warm this summer and not feel embarrassed to go to the pool or ocean!
