I think the fact that you only had liquids all day and then took a pain pill irritated your stomach causing and over production of acid.

I decided to open up about my VSG at work.
myrori replied to brazcan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have that one person at work too, simple fact is she is threatened by my weightloss. Her problem not mine. I just told her it is working for me and there is not use talking down my decision because whats done is done. Bottom line- I am happy. -
I am sorry I did not see this post before you had surgery. When I was eating badly and consuming too many carbs I would get the feeling you describe when I tried cutting back all of the sudden to low carbs. It was explained to me that it was not anxiety, but low blood sugar because my body was used to responding to the over load I was giving it with too much insulin leading to insulin resistance. When I got these episodes I would have to drink some juice to bring my blood sugar up Once I got on to a healthy diet and my body stablized its sugar and insulin response to it I no longer had the episodes and I am fine with 30 to 40 grams of carbs in a day. If you have been overloading you will need to cut back more slowly and eat foods that maintain you sugar longer. I hope your surgery went well and hope to hear from you soon.

Anyone who has PCOS... (TMI)
myrori replied to Infernored's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had it for years, at one point I had to have a D&C stop the bleeding. The best long term control for me was taking birth control pills and really limiting my sugar and crabs and taking metformin. Now after losing the weight I do not take metformin or the pill and every thing is normal with the occasional out break on my face. -
Scarred about my 1st after surgery psych appt.
myrori replied to Strwberriekissesrbetter's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well it never hurts to get help, but I must admit I have limitted food intake after surgery. I keep a routine just because it is easy and allows me control. I start every day with a Protein shake, I have greek yogurt for a snack, chicken for lunch and chicken for dinner. I mix it up with what kind of chicken I have and veggies. Hmm maybe tonight I live it up and have some red meat! -
Do you still enjoy wine (or alchohol in general) after sleeve?
myrori replied to johnm's topic in Food and Nutrition
My new drink is Cranberry and vodka with a a twist of lime. I have it like once a week. If I have not eaten I am drunk fast on one drink, but it also wears off before dinner is over. Vodka has zero carbs and 55 calories. I use cranberry juice light. -
do you find these in bread section? Can anyone post a picture of the package, I am a terrible shopper.

ANY regrets getting the Vertical Sleeve?
myrori replied to pumpkin07's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am sorry you having a rough time. Check with your doctor because I do believe once you are all healed you can take NSAIDS agian. I am a little over 3 months out and I take motrin on occasion, I just make sure I food in first. Have you ever considered cortisone shots for your knee? I have a horridly arthretic knee that has bone on bone for over 20 years and the shots have me walking normal in a day and last for months. Your diiet will become more varied very soon. I know eat out quite often. I guess I divorced food way before my surgery, I wanted to loose weight soooooo bad that I put myself on a self imposed diet in June of 2010. Most days I would have no Breakfast (I know) than I would have a huge turkey chef salad for lunch that I kept the dressing on the side and used very little of with each bite. I would then have a light dinner. I was ALWAYS hungry and thinking about what to eat for my next meal. Then in August of last year I found this website and started adding Protein shakes for breakfast as I figured I might as well find one I liked, and I cut out breads to get used to it. Now after surgery I don't view what I cant eat as something bad, I get stoked on how little it takes to fill me up! I love taking a few bites of salad and about 4 bites of chicken and being full! It is control and satisfaction I have never had in my life! Sure I have thought about the bad foods, but I want the number on the scale to be lower so much more than I want those foods, that is how I keep it in perspective. Now with that being said,,,, I have indulged here and there, like one night I wanted fried pickles like no ones business and I had them,, the good news is I could only eat 6 of them and I was totally full. So I enjoyed the taste I had been craving WITHOUT the guilt of having sat there and ate the whole basket! I have tried bread, it does not feel good so when I go out I order sandwiches minus the roll or bread and I still end up taking most of it home. I guess when I think how good it feels to see a smaller number on the scale ( I often use the mental image of the scale in my head) it gives me more satisfaction than the food I used to want. I can tell you after you lose the weight your knee will start to feel better. So back to the original posting,, NO NOT ONE REGRET! I get psyched every day I see a lower number on the scale and the feeling lasts all day long and inspires me to make good choices all day long! -
I can't explain why, other than maybe woman hormones? Also working out builds muscle that weighs more than fat but is good for long term calorie burning. I too weigh everyday and I just came off a 3 week fight of 189-190-191 game to suddenly today 186.3. I did a soft day yesterday, meaning I had 3 protein shakes and 2 yogurts and 5 turkey stick bits for the entire day. Now I am not sure if that had anything to do with the jump down in weight loss as I consumed the same amount of calories as any other day. I have increased my cardio work out the last week so that maybe be part of it.

3 months what vitiams now
myrori replied to Wildorchids's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
When I compared Bariatric Advantage multi and celebrate brand multi to over the counter multis I found that they were not even close in quality. I re ordered the Celebrate multi with Iron to eliminate one of my pills a day. I see the doc in a couple weeks and I will ask him what is good out there, but from what I understand we will need a b complex for the rest of our lives, and woman sleeve or no sleeve should keep on the calcium. -

I'm on my way from misery to happiness today, A-ha, A-ha, A-ha, A-ha
myrori replied to New & Improved Mel's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome Mel! Getting the sleeve will be the best gift ever to yourself! I had been overweight from child hood,, as far back as 2nd grade I can remember comments made by class mates,, forward now to age 47 and I now weigh less than I did when I graduated high school and I FEEL GREAT! Now the challenge is to find something to where that fits! My entire closet is useless! I get what you mean about trying to stay out of the way at social occasions and being extra nice. I have noticed in the recent months I have gotten bolder at work with both co workers and the general public, I even hung up on a man who was cussing at me! Since surgery in November I have gotten off all 5 blood pressure pills and metformin for blood sugar. Now I just take 5 supplements a day. -
I found this article and thought I would share, Not sure if I believe it entirely. The little-known weight-loss secret Eating a diet packed with the right kind of carbs is the little-known secret to getting and staying slim for life. When we talk about the right kind of carbs, we mean Resistant Starch. Hundreds of studies conducted at respected universities and research centers have shown Resistant Starch helps you eat less, burn more calories, feel more energized and less stressed, and lower cholesterol. Sound too good to be true? Here are eight evidence-based reasons you must get carbs back in your life if you are ever to achieve that coveted sleek, slim look. Eating carbs makes you thin for life A recent multicenter study found that the slimmest people also ate the most carbs, and the chubbiest ate the least. The researchers concluded that your odds of getting and staying slim are best when carbs make up to 64% of your total daily caloric intake, or 361 grams. That's the equivalent of several stuffed baked potatoes (a food we bet you've been afraid to eat for decades). Most low-carb diets limit you to fewer than 30% of total calories from carbs and sometimes contain as few as 30 grams of carbohydrates a day. Carbs fill you up Many carb-filled foods act as powerful appetite suppressants. They're even more filling than Protein or fat. These special carbs fill you up because they are digested more slowly than other types of foods, triggering a sensation of fullness in both your brain and your belly. Research done at the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom found that consuming Resistant Starch in one meal caused study participants to consume 10% fewer calories (roughly 150 to 200 calories for the average woman) during the next day, because they felt less hungry. Carbs curb your hunger According to researchers, when dieters are taken off a low-carb diet and shifted them to an approach that includes generous amounts of Fiber and Resistant Starch foods, something wonderful happens: Within two days, the dieters' cravings go away. The fiber and Resistant Starch fills them up and satisfies them while allowing them to eat the foods they crave. These good-news carbs also raise levels of satiety hormones that tell the brain to flip a switch that stifles hunger and turns up metabolism. Carbs control blood sugar and diabetes The right mix of carbs is the best way to control blood sugar and keep diabetes at bay. In one study at the Beltsville Human Nutrition Center at the USDA, participants who consumed a diet rich in high Resistant Starch foods were able to lower their post-meal blood sugar and insulin response by up to 38%. Eat the carbs you want, but you need to combine them so that they don't cause a spike in your blood sugar. Instead of eating white rice, switch to brown and combine it with Beans, corn, or other high Resistant Starch foods that keep your blood sugar more balanced than low-carb diets. Carbs speed up metabolism Carbs high in Resistant Starch speed up your metabolism and your body's other natural fat burners. As Resistant Starch moves though your digestive system, it releases fatty acids that encourage fat burning, especially in your belly. These fatty acids help preserve muscle mass—and that stokes your metabolism, helping you lose weight faster. Researchers set out to fatten up two groups of rats, feeding one group food that was low in Resistant Starch. A second group was fed Resistant Starch-packed food. The rats fed the low Resistant Starch chow gained fat while losing muscle mass. Rats that ate the high Resistant Starch meals preserved their muscle mass, keeping their metabolism moving Carbs blast belly fat Carbs help you lose your belly fat faster than other foods, even when the same number of calories are consumed. When scientists fed rats a diet rich in Resistant Starch, it increased the activity of fat-burning enzymes and decreased the activity of fat-storing enzymes. This means that the belly-fat cells were less likely to soak up and store calories as fat. Carbs keep you satisfied Carbs keep you satisfied longer than other foods. Here's why: Your brain acts like a computerized fuel gauge that directs you to fill up whenever it notices that its gas tank (stomach) is empty. Foods high in Resistant Starch flip on every single fullness trigger in the body. They release fullness hormones in the intestine and make your cells more sensitive to insulin. By increasing your consumption of filling foods and releasing satiety hormones, you'll minimize your hunger and cravings. Carbs make you feel good about you! "Dieters feel so empowered once they lose weight on carbs. For the first time, they are able to lose weight by eating in a balanced manner, without cutting out entire food groups," says Sari GLet foods fight fat Health magazine's upcoming CarbLovers Diet is going to sneak Resistant Starch into your diet. But where do you get it? And what does it taste like? Lots of familiar foods are loaded with Resistant Starch, but most people don't consume enough. Aim to get 10 to 15 grams a day of this important fat-burning nutrient by eating these 10 foods. reaves, a registered dietitian and spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association. 10 Fat-Burning Carbs Previous (slide 2 of 11) Next View all slides » Bananas Serving size: Medium, about 7 to 8 inches Resistant Starch: 4.7 grams oatmeal Serving size: 1/2 cup, uncooked Resistant Starch: 4.6 grams White beans Serving size: 1/2 cup, cooked/canned Resistant Starch: 3.8 grams Lentils Serving size: 1/2 cup, cooked Resistant Starch: 3.4 grams Potatoes Serving size: 1 potato, cooked and cooled; 2.5-inch diameter Resistant Starch: 3.2 grams Plantains Serving size: 1/2 cup, cooked Resistant Starch: 2.7 grams Garbanzo beans Serving size: 1/2 cup, cooked/canned Resistant Starch: 2.1 grams Pearl barley Serving size: 1/2 cup, cooked Resistant Starch: 1.9 grams Whole-wheat Pasta Serving size: 1 cup, cooked Resistant Starch: 2 grams Brown rice Serving size: 1/2 cup, cooked Resistant Starch: 1.7 grams Nuts and oils Stock up on: Almond/peanut butter, walnuts, olive oil Why they help with weight loss: Most types of nuts and other good fats, like olive oil, are a rich source of the fat fighter called monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs). One Danish study of 27 men and women found that a diet that included 20% of its calories from MUFAs measurably sped up 24-hour calorie and fat burning after six months. Other research shows that MUFAs are especially good at melting tummy fat.

I swallowed my pride and started shopping at Good Will. -
The only meds I was on as a result of surgery were pain meds the first few days and Nexium for reflux and to help the stomach heal. MORE importantly I am NO LONGER on the 5 blood pressure meds nor the blood sugar medicine I was on before surgery. I no longer need motrin or muscle relaxers for daily back pain. I have heard that some people have reactions to anesthesia and temporarily needing blood pressure medicine, but that is rare. Some people have reflux after surgery, I think that is a small price to pay for over all health. For me this surgery has been strengthening and healing to my body as whole.

Unsupportive Sister and Mother
myrori replied to kpbrighton's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On the surface my "always been skinny" sister was supportive. HOWEVER she was so threatened by my weight loss, fearing she would lose her "skinny one" status she has starved herself and is now anorexic. No matter who does and does not support you, bottom line is you have to do this for yourself and no one else. -
100 Pounds Down in less than 6 months -- It's a Beautiful Day!
myrori replied to juliarh's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats!!!!! Awesome Job!!! Now what are you doing????? I am 14 weeks post op and only down 30 pounds, what am I doing wrong? I have not touched bread, rice or potatoes, I exercise and still 30 lousy pounds in 14 weeks. -
I can see how some might get depressed about their divorce from food. Food can be a coping mechanism and suddenly it is gone. In preparation for my surgery I gave up Pop all together ( I was a coke a holic) and breads, this made the adjustment a lot easier. I have to say my spirits have been UP since surgery, I finally feel good about myself and feel really good on the days the scale moves downward! There are lots of resources for post sleevers, this board and doctors and counselors to help if you get down.
