My wife has had her band for a couple of years now, but with a lot of exercise, the excessive skin issue has not been a problem for her, I on the other expect to have some, but since I was just banded, not a lot to report yet. I think Exercise and good eating will help keep the skin a little pliable and allow it to snap back. I was fairly active before the band and hope that will be in my favor. Good luck with your band. My wife's has been very successful and I hope to have the same results

If I eat too fast, this is a given for me. Once some of it passes the band, they go away.

Dry heaves??? Hmmm, I wonder if it is like I had and that was massive hunger pains. The liquids just were not cutting it for me. I had to stop the all diet and move to mushy foods after 3 days. All liquids me a feel of nausea, but once I had some grits or oatmeal, it quickly went away. I moved to fairly solid food within 14 days.

Do you wish you would've had Gastric Bypass instead?
jaxgtr replied to amberakamom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If my only alternative was GB, I would not have had the surgery. Like other posters, I would research, get another opinion from another surgeon. My surgeon will not even do the GB now, sleeve or bands only. -
Congrats, I got banded on 10/1 and had absolutely no pain and never took any pain meds. The swelling made life a little un-comfy for a couple of days, but nothing a couple of Tylenol couldn't handle. I get my first fill on the 9th.

My wife complained about this once or twice in the beginning, but I think it was the brand of bra she was wearing. When she lost more weight, and had to get smaller bra, she never said anything else about it since.

Hang in there, your time will come. By the way, don't leaves notes or become the secret admirer type thing. I have someone stalking me at work, leaving notes on my desk and car, I have no idea who it is, while flattering, also scary. As I look at my current self, I don't think I fit the typical mold for someone to desire. Over 300 lbs, middle aged, still have my hair though, married with 2 older kids, why would someone want me??? I just can't see it. My wife laughed and snickered at the last note and told me the perfume on the paper was bad. She likes bringing back to earth hard,. Like others have said, guys are stupid and signals dropping in not always out best feature. Up front and blunt always works best with most guys I know, then there are no mixed messages.

Doctors blame everything on the band!

Several years ago, my wife was having horrendous reflux and they were never able to pin it down. I know it is agonizing as she was miserable. I don't have any solid answers for you as at some point, she just stopped having the issue. We never did find out what the reason was, but I personally think it was stress. She left her prior job, Labor Delivery Nurse (high stress job) and moved to a non-patient care job. Less stress, shorter hours, boom, no reflux. She doesn't buy that, but all I know is she isnt coughing and hacking at night or sucking down tum's like candy anymore. They too thought it was her band. Hopefully you will be able to pin down what the cause is. -
Remember, Pain is weakness leaving the body. Having said that, what your feeling is probably the fact that your were using muscle you had not used for a while in that fashion, but you need to continue or you will never get beyond it. When I starter exercising after many years of being a couch potato, I rode my bike for 4 miles and thought I was going to die the next day, but I got back on it the next day and so on for 10 days straight, it was the best thing I could have done. 4 years and 11,000 miles later, it all started with the first push of that pedal.

Protein Shake Advice
jaxgtr replied to boricuanessa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really hate the pre-mixed shakes, way to much fat and carbs, plus my doctor wanted me to just use 100% Isolate Protien, better absorbing and less stomach issues for some patients, plus <= 1g of Carbs or Fat per serving. All these directives were a non issue with me as I had been using a Protein powder for at least 2 years that taste great and mixes well with Water, milk, juice, whatever. I get it from Max Muscle and use it at least twice a day. Has 30-34 gm of protein per serving and only 130 cal if you mix with water. If you mix with fat free milk, you end up in the 40+ gr of protein range per serving. Intek is the brand and I have tried most of their flavors, but I like Cookies and Cream in the Isolate Protein and Orange Creamsicle in their Protein Evolution product. This one is more of an all around multi-protein product, great after a workout for me. Good luck on your surgery. -
Anyone else intimidated by the skinny's at the gym??
jaxgtr replied to JMinDallas's topic in Fitness & Exercise
You know what, I don't care what people think of what I look like when I go to the gym or ride my bike. Yes I wear the spandex when I ride my bike and I still weigh over 300, but you know what, it's flipping comfortable and makes my 60+ mile rides that much more enjoyable so I will want to do it again. I also wear the bike bibs to the gym cause...., it's comfortable and I don't end up in 12 lbs of sweaty cotton after a good workout. I know people look at me and think, fatso in bike shorts, but fatso in bike shorts just completed a 65 mile ride in 90 degree heat while you were sitting on your couch watching a movie. -
Hi, I use a Protein by a company called Intek. I use the Isolate Cookies and Cream and also the Protein Evolution for a flavor change of pace, Orange Creamsicle. Neither of them have sugars. The Evolution actually has additional Vitamins and minerals and really helps with pre and post exercise protein intake. They mix with Water, milk, juice or name your Fluid very well, although with the water, you need to reduce the 10 ozper scoop recommendation to 8 oz in my opinion or it taste a little thin. I also prefer the water to be really cold. My stomach pre and post surgery has never had any issues with this protein, my wife, banded 2 years ago, always had issues with protein supplements, but has never had any issues with these products. She loves the Creamsicle too. I get this from Max Muscle, and was buying it for 2 years before I even contemplated having a LAP-BAND. Here is a link to their site if you want more info.
