  1. One of my favorite snacks is a wasa crisp & light cracker which a spread with light laughing cow swiss cheese and a piece of turkey.... or if I want something sweet I will go with a sugar free popsicle or a few frozen grapes, they are in season right now and I love them frozen, if i need chocolate I will go with a sugar-free pudding.

    Telling someone new

Isn't it crazy to be on this end and actually hear all the prejudice people have against overweight people?!! There have been quite a few times that I have been on a date and they guy starts talking bad about 'fat' people... like you I always confront them on it. Reading this thread is good.. its good to know that I am not the only one that freaks out about how I am going to eat on my date. One of the guys I have been dating keeps telling me that I need to start eating more because I keep losing weight LOL... if he only knew..thats the point

    Telling someone new

I am dating now... not in a serious relationship though. I know I probably won't tell anyone unless we get serious... but even then its up in the air. I have told my dates that I have lost some weight and I watch what I eat. Going out to dinner is tricky. I went out last night on a first date with someone and I just ordered an appetizer and when he asked if that was all i wanted I just said yes its a perfect size for me. He didn't really think much more of it. Dating is kind of tough because it seems like everyone always wants to go out to eat, I try to think of different things we can do where food isnt the main focus. As far as telling them about weight loss surgery, I think its a personal choice ~ I havent felt comfortable telling anyone about it yet. I guess I will cross that bridge when I get to it, but I know it would only be with someone I intend to be with long-term, otherwise I dont think it's something everyone needs to know about, at least not right away.

It is realistic.... I am 10 months out and down 97 lbs. You can do it... good luck!

    Sick constantly!

You have been banded since 2009? Oh my goodness, I hope you havent been sick that whole time! I pray you start feeling better soon, not sure if I would want to wait until the 6th to be seen ~ sounds like you should be seen sooner. What kind of foods are you eating? I am so sorry you are going through this!

    Banded yesterday!

I only had to do a day of liquids then moved on to soft foods for the next 3 days then went onto solids. Every doctor does seem to have a different philosophy. Personally I dont think the soup would hurt much. The only problem with 'creamy' soups is that they are usually pretty fattening and have a lot of sodium, which doesnt help with swelling.

    A little frustrated

Dont get discouraged. At first you are just on liquids then you move onto foods with more substance while the initial swelling from surgery goes down, so you will be more hungry because you dont have a fill yet. It is normal to gain back a little bit of what you initally lost... once you start getting your fills you will notice a difference. Although I have to say I only noticed a very small difference with my first two fills, and on the 3rd one I finally knew what restriction felt like. Be patient and stick with the lifestyle change and you will see the results. Hang in there!

when will i know i need filled

If I am getting hungry within 2-3 hrs of eating, then I know its time. If I can make it over 3 hours, then I don't worry about a fill.

    5 Days Post Op

I am coming up on a year in October, but I will never forget that first week. A lifesaver to me was my heating pad... it helped everything ~ including gas pains. Good luck on your journey ~ I can say for me personally it was the best thing I have ever done.
  11. Just go with how you feel, some people dont need as many fills as others. It's different for everyone. Sounds like you are doing well as is. I know I didnt feel much restriction until my 3rd fill. Congrats on your progress!

    Sick constantly!

How long has it been since you got your band? Regardless, you really need to call your doctor, you shouldn't be constantly sick.
  13. I had my surgery in Oct. The first few days I wasnt hungry at all...as a matter of fact it was really hard for me to get even my protein drinks down. At about day 5 all the soreness of the surgery went down and i started getting an appitite, and i stuck to cottage cheese, fat free refried beans, greek yogurt, sf popsicles, etc. it really wasnt hard...ur not that hungry because your stomach is swollen...its when the swelling goes down that you appitite comes back. At about week two I felt the same as I did prior to surgery and it was really hard to be disciplined until my fill. As time goes on it gets easier because you have learned how to eat and your habits change. I have now had my 3rd fill and literally have to make myself eat... I never eat more than a few bites before being full. Good luck. I love my band and feel like it was the best decision I have ever made
  14. I think sometimes people think the band will do all the work... its just a tool not magic. Hopefully he got that into her head...the soda thing scares the hell out of me ~ I can't tell you how bad I would love to have a soda, but I havent had one since august! Thats what I miss more than anything...but its not worth it!

    Post Stuck diet?

What exactly does being 'stuck' feel like? Do you feel it in your stomach? Most of the time I am fine, but since my last fill every now and then when i eat i feel like the food gets stuck going down and i feel it in my chest and it is painful but usually goes away in a minute or two. Is that getting stuck? I have never thrown up or been uncomfortable for more than a couple of minutes....
  16. Wow!!! Thats ALOT of weight that quickly... CONGRATULATIONS!!

    Kids Meals

I order off the kids menu also and have never had a problem. I don't think I would go back to Ruby Tuesdays if they did that.
  18. Ohhh no!!! I'm sorry you had that experience! I'm sure it will get better... just hang in there. Go slow, I'm sure it will get better. Maybe she needed to take more out. I noticed in the 'surgeons' forum that we have the same surgeon. I am going for my 2nd fill tomorrow. Now I'm nervous, because Dr. P is supposed to give me my fill, the RN that normally does it was on vacation and she did such a great job on my first fill. I hope you feel better soon!!

    In and Out of Bed

it took me a good 4 days before my muscles didnt hurt. my heating pad was my savior.
  20. it is so crazy how different doctors are.... i didnt have to do liquid after my first fill..it was soft food only for 24 hrs, then they wanted us to start eating solids.
  21. I am so excited, I just got off the phone with my primary care physician. November 2009 I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, with an A1C of 7.4 ~ which gave me a slap of reality and triggered my weight loss journey. I was banded 10/21 and have lost a total of 62 lbs since 11/09 (30 lbs. post-op)... my latest A1C is 5.6!! He said I no longer have to take medication for Diabetes. :bananajump: This is in edition to my two other nsv's of having to buy all new winter clothes because nothing from last year fits and being able to cross my legs comfortably. This really reassures me that I made the right decision getting my band.

Dr. Michael Snyder - Great Surgeon!

Hey brownsugar ~ I have an appointment on the 15th too I had my first fill on 12/01, so this is a follow up appointment. I feel restriction now, but I wish I even felt more, so I may ask them to give me a little more. Good luck with your first fill ~ it was way easier than I thought it would be.

Dr. Michael Snyder - Great Surgeon!

Dr. Snyder was my surgeon for my 10/21/10 lap band surgery. I am so happy I picked him! In addition to him being a wonderful doctor ~ the steps that he & his office have you go through as far as educating you along the way and letting you know what to expect can't be beat. I believe all of his patients go into the surgery with their eyes wide open. I haven't had one complication and everything has gone so smoothly. I had just mentioned to my daughter, as hard as I have to work, I feel like it should be harder. I highly recommend Dr. Snyder to anyone considering bariatric surgery. I don't regret it for one minute.
  24. It seems like every doctor is different. I was eating mushy foods (light yogurt, fat-free refried beans, cottage cheese, sf popsicles, etc) beginning on day 5. Check with your doctor and see what they say. I don't think I could have handled not having anything for much longer than that.
  25. I totally feel you on this! I just had my first fill and I dont think I feel restriction either.... I have just been really strict about how much i eat...and I stop after 4 oz, even if im still hungry. I am very nervous that I am going to fail. Now after reading your post I am worrying that I am eating to fast also. I just eat like normal, I thought after the fill I would really notice something different, but I didnt. Hopefully this 4th fill is just what you need to get you back on track. You can do it, 6 lbs isnt the end of the world, just stay focused and force yourself to exercise and follow your diet. I know you can do it. Just like I know I can, IF I stay focused... I just thought it would be a little different than it has been. I am going to ask for more of a fill on the 15th when I go back. Good Luck!! You can do it!
