I was banded August of 2008 at 16 years old. If I knew then what I know now, I would've never even considered weightloss surgery. But, as most teenagers are, I was vulnerable and just wanted to look like everyone else. I didn't want to get mocked any more than I already had been.

Now, as I go on nearly 4 years with my band and as I'm about to turn 20, I've looked back to realize how much I missed from my band. I was never able to go out with my friends to eat because I couldn't take a bit without throwing up, and I couldn't eat while I was sitting down. I had to stand up and eat if I wanted anything to go down. I was embarrassed to even tell most of my friends that I had the Lap Band. I would decline invites to get lunch/food with friends because I didn't want to eat in front of them. I was always sick. I would excuse myself during classes as rush to the bathroom to throw up. I developed terrible acne after my surgery, after having beautiful and clear skin before. My hair started falling out, I couldn't get out of bed in the morning from being so exhausted..... so many things I've dealt with since being banded. I may have looked better, but I was sick and miserable inside.

I will be getting my band out within the next couple months, and I am more than excited. There is life after and without Lap Band. A good life.

One thing I can thank the Lap Band for... It has taught me that there are other ways to lose weight. I know more now about nutrition than I ever thought I would. I do not believe in quick fixes any longer.

Lap Band, to me, will never be worth the long term side effects and malnutrition that I have experienced.

I hope that maybe someone will read this and take it to heart.

If you have anything to say, comment, or a question, do not hesitate to private message me.

Best wishes to you and your weightloss journey.
