Jan. 2011 - I've always been the chubby girl. In 1997, after the birth of my daughter, I was morbidly obese. Only 17, I took "eating for two" quite literally. When she was 2 yrs old, I finally started losing some of the weight by starving myself. Over the course of 7 yrs I finally got down to 150lbs. I had reconstructive surgery to remove a lot of the loose skin. I looked great. In 2006, I met my husband. About 6 months into our relationship, I started gaining weight very rapidly and couldn't figure out why. All tests came back normal. I'd gain 10lbs here and there, steadily. We've been married almost 4 yrs and I've put on 65lbs. I'm bigger than I was the first time I battled obesity. Along with the obesity, I have other health problems. I have thyroid disease and bone disease as well as fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. I can not exercise. I found out my insurance covered the Lap Band procedure because of my comorbidities. I had the surgery on August 16th, 2010. I have not lost any weight whatsoever. I have a 10 cc band. The surgeon left 4cc in at the time of surgery. I'm now at 5.5cc's. I feel I am still able to eat as much as I was before. I've become very frustrated. I found this site after typing "Lap Band not working" into my browser. I've been looking for a forum so hopefully this will put me in contact with others who have had similar circumstances.
5/21/2012 - Shortly after writing this, I starting losing weight in Feb 2011, 6 months after surgery. Weight loss was slow at first and then it started finally coming off. I eventually stopped filling my band when I reached 7.5cc's. The past 4 months, weight loss has plateaued but, I'm very close to my goal. I still vomit daily so I would not be surprised if I had some erosion in the future but I try very hard to not throw up. It just creeps up on me.
2/8/13 -I contracted aspiration pneumonia shortly after writing the post from May. I was in the hospital and my surgeon removed all my fluid from my band. I gained 20lbs back in 2 months. I convinced him to put some fluid back into my band. He agreed but only a fraction of what I had before. I don't know why, but I have half the fluid in my band that I had immediately after my original surgery. I lost the 20lbs I gained in 3 months and have since lost an additional 10lbs on top of that. I have surpassed my goal of weighing 150 and now weigh 148 even with clothes on. I'm a size 8. I've lost 75lbs total from heaviest of 223.
I never get on this forum anymore so, email me. Buffyclary@yahoo.com.
