    Hi

Hello Ty, Welcome to our little corner of the universe. I just joined myself and the people are great here. I just got banded 6 days ago and it's not that bad. Feel free to hit me up any time. We will learn about this together. God bless, Alicia
  2. Congrats on the surgery! I found out that walking does work for the gas. My biggest problem was being lactose intolerant but since I got those Lactaid tablets and Dairy Ease milk, I'm much better.

Question? What do you consider a "mushy"? What about creamy potato soups? Tuna fish (blended real good of course)? What did you eat? Sorry, but I come off this liquid in 25 hours and I can't wait. But I don't want to over do it... a little scared.

  3. Just stopping by to say hi!!! I gained weight on my pre op diet, but lost inches. I think I was just nervous. But was just banded on 7-15-08 and have lost 10 lbs so far. Hang in there, hon, it's not that bad! :)

    I'm so irritated with myself!

Aww don't beat up on yourself. I did the EXACT same thing. The doc told me I should lose like 10 lbs b4 surgery. So I lost 8 the first week, then I gained every single pound back! But I did manage to cut out fast foods and regular sodas, so I lost inches and my liver really did shrink b4 surgery. (Just banded on 7/15/08) I also went back and forth bw the bypass and the band. I have friends who have done both. My thing with the bypass is that it is sooo invasive. Right now, I just started a new job, moved out from my mom's house, and am raising twin 10 yr olds on my own. No man to help. I couldn't afford to be out of commission for as long as the bypass. I wanted the bypass bc I wanted to lose weight really fast. At 305lbs and 5'10'', I was just tired of being big. But for health's sake, I went with the band. Don't be afraid of failing. This is your life decision, you can succeed at whatever you put your mind to and the surgery can help. Think about this, if something happens with the band, they can take it off. With the bypass, the complications can be much more severe and it is VERY difficult, almost impossible to reverse a bypass. You will do fine. Just relax, eat some watermelon, drink some tea, and (if you dare) give yourself and enema. Took my weight right off! Good luck

    my secret to this "diet"

Hi Bozzi, Thank you so much for posting this. I was just banded 7-15-08 and I was sitting here wondering "What the world did I just do?" How am I really gonna go the rest of my life eating like this? But your thinking really allowed me to wrap my brain around all this. Thanks a bunch for your wisdom!

This is all new to me

So this is my first entry. Hello fellow LapBanders! I was just banded on Tues July 15, 2008, so that was 5 days ago. I am on this full liquids diet thing and I've lost 10 lbs so far. I can't believe I really am doing this thing. I started at 304 lbs when I came home from the hospital on Wed. I'm down to 294. I'm convinced this is only because I am drinking everything. Not that I doubt my ability to succeed on this, but just being realistic. The weight loss will slow down as soon as I start on my mushy foods. The pain wasn't too bad for me. The gas, on the other hand, was horrendous! I mean, I could hear the gas rumbling around in my stomach, from the outside. I guess in all this surgery stuff, I seemed to have forgotten that I am SEVERELY lactose intolerant. What do they have you on after surgery? Milk, milk, and more milk!! The Boost Protein shakes (lactose free) were disgusting and I honestly liked the Carnation Instant Breakfast better (full lactose). So, I bought some Lactaid, and I am a brand new person. Together with the infant gas-x drops, I don't have to sing that song anymore. So five days in, and I'm still alive. The hardest part is convincing my mind that I'm not hungry, and recognizing when my stomach is telling me when I'm full. I can't eat anything right now, so it's not an issue, yet. Any suggestions from anyone who happens across my rambling, please feel free to email me at alicianhooper@yahoo.com. I'm a firm believer that we are all in this together and to hell with those people that said that weight loss surgery is the "easy" way out. They obviously have never had to struggle with anything. This is a life change, a tool, and I rather do this than do nothing and die because I ate myself into an early grave. (Sorry, just felt a little emotion right then.) God bless and thanks for reading, Alicia:wink2:

This is all new to me

Hey Pen, Thanks for stopping by. Wow, you have to stay on liquids until 7/29? My doc only gave me 1 week. I feel you though, I am tired and hungry. A girlfriend told me I should talk to my doc bc I shouldn't be hungry. I don't know. I'm going to call on Monday, just to make sure I'm not having a fit Anyway, best of luck to you also!

    Fear of Food?

I'm also in Richmond, Va. I was banded a few days ago. My doc has me on full liquids for a full week. I tried to slip in some cream of potato soup (I blended the potatoes) but i stopped because I don't want to slip this band. I can honestly say that this full liquid time is teaching me to recognize when my stomach is full and when I just feel like I haven't eaten a while and think I need to eat. So far so good, though.
  10. Firstly, congrats on being banded. Do not feel bad for taking the pain meds. I just had my band put in on 7/15/08 and I still take the meds. What I did, however, was tried to use either Tylenol or Advil during the day and only take the "good stuff" at night. That way, I was able to ween myself off of the meds. But the doc prescribed them bc he felt you would need them. Just make sure you let your doc know at your follow-up appt how your pain is progressing. It's just one day at a time. God bless, Alicia:thumbup:

    Just banded 2 days ago

Thanks for the encouragement. I think I'm going to call the doctor in the morning. I just don't feel like this is successful for me. Also, I believe I'm lactose intolerant and everything they have offered me....has lactose. There has got to be a better way. I just feel bloated and my scale says that I weigh more now than when I went into the hospital. I'm following the diet to a t, but i feel no success.
