Pre-Surgery Diet
Some patients follow a special diet for several weeks before surgery. Sometimes, it is the surgeon who prescribes the diet; often, insurance plans require the diet before they will promise to reimburse patients. The diet is a low-calorie diet for weight loss. It is also a good test to make sure that bariatric surgery candidates are fully committed to the dietary changes necessary for successful weight loss after surgery.
One or more days before surgery, you will probably go on a liquid diet. This diet helps to shrink your liver so that surgery is easier. The diet is similar to the post-surgery clear liquid diet. You will be able to have these liquids.
