It sounds like your resources are limited for getting support in your local area, so I wanted to recommend looking into the Pound of Cure nutrition program, which is run by Dr. Weiner in Tucson, AZ (he also has a couple books and YouTube channel with bariatric educational information). It's $49 a month and allows you to attend unlimited online support groups with their dietician and peer leaders, as well as a few sessions per month that are run by Dr. Weiner. I've subscribed for a while and go to at least a few of the groups per month as my schedule permits. Many times there will just be a few people in the group and you can really get a chance to ask your questions and get some good advice. Just for example, there's a group for the first year post-op, for emotional eating and stress management, and even one for surviving the holidays and travel. They've been in this business for many years and I'm betting they could think of dozens of patients who felt exactly how you do right now but went on to be successful.

    Fat cells have a “memory”

Epigenetics are crazy fascinating! Like your ancestors went through a famine and now your body is programmed to receive/keep food nutrients differently or your ancestors ate a lot of a certain food so you can tolerate better than most. It's crazy! People have believed that what they did in their life did not affect their kids genetics, but we now know thats untrue.

    Posture

As you say, I definitely need to give myself some grace! We started at a very similar weight, and I am 5ft 5" so I completely get it! I'll start trying those stretches in the morning - thank you

There are a ton of great running belts; they tend to have various sizes and are more sturdy. You might want to check those out.

I cycle about 5 miles a day. It's just my commute, but I love it.

    Posture

So both my boyfriend and my mum have commented on my posture recently - completely valid - but I just didn't realise how bad my posture is! I don't know about anyone else, but when I was at my heaviest I just always walked around with a slump - sometimes without realising it. Maybe just to make myself smaller. But now I have lost a significant amount, I feel more confident, but I am still slouching when I walk and it is definitely noticeable! Any tips on how to hold myself better? 😂

    Posture

I struggle with a slight slump after carrying 290 pounds on a five foot frame for years - SO I gave myself some grace here - as I hope you will, too. Several exercises that have helped - standing erect and doing front and back swimming breast stroke in the air. It feels great. Also stretch every morning with your hands as high as they can go. Rolling of the shoulders forward and back. I learned all these and more in a great water aerobics class. Walking daily in good athletic shoes conscious of your posture position not to lean forward helps your body to realign. Walking is the best!
