    Food Before and After Photos

Baked some brown butter chocolate chip cookies and they turned out insane. The whole house smells of caramel/brown butter. I had 3/4 of one. Used much less sugar than the recipe called for and I still feel I could reduce it a tad more.

I never had a lap band, but from the research I did pre-surgery, I can confidently say that you didn't fail your lap band. The lap band almost certainly failed you. It's just not a good procedure for long term success, which is why it is almost never done any more. It causes a lot of issues and really doesn't solve very many when it comes to the root causes of obesity. The gastric bypass, on the other hand, offers an excellent combination of strong metabolic changes plus low risk of side effects. It's a really good choice. I know I couldn't be happier!

I've definitely been puréeing the tuna so it's the right texture, but I think you all might be right about the portion size itself. I got handed a leaflet about what to eat post op, but they don't actually suggest any food ideas with measurements until the solid phase. I do ok on 4oz of liquid, but I think I will try half of that for purée and see how I get on. I'm trying not to be in a hurry to move on to the next stage, but I'm really miserable at this stage.

I think it may be too much volume too. I was advised 1/4 - 1/3 of a cup from purée. Also try thinning the purée more so it’s more liquid like for a coupe of days & see if that helps. But yes, going back to liquids for a couple of days or so won’t hurt either. Maybe try one meal puree, the other two liquids? I found tinned fish pureed disgusting and survived a lot on thicker soups & yoghurt. Luckily I could have thin scrambled eggs and thin instant oatmeal as well.

No more saggy arms for Sophie!

Thank you, Arabesque. So great to reconnect. Missed you! A crazy past few years... YES, I do look forward to the ability to dance waving arms unencumbered by weight + jiggle! The boys say hello. Any fun new outfits to model for us? Once slim new arms are healed... I do look forward to wearing these favorite cotton toile dresses with fitted arms without jean jackets. Yay!

yea I think mine was like 1-2 oz. I didnt have my stomach operated on because it was a revision this time so I was able to do the top of the range right away which was 2 oz. I would call your team and ask to be sure but maybe start with just one tiny bite and wait and see how it goes and then SLOWLY go up. You should hear back from them before you get to 1 oumce. I think that was the lower end but you always want to hear it from your team anyways. Or check to see if it’s written in any or the papers they gave you.

I didn’t have band either, but I had the sleeve and gained it all back. My surgeon explained that obesity is very complex and for many people the sleeve is great and it’s less risk so they go with it when they think it is appropriate but it does not offer the same metabolic changes as the bypass or the SADI (which is what I revised to) that some people need in order to be successful. I believe the Lap band offers even less metabolic changes than the sleeve, if any. Basically with these surgeries mostly everyone will lose weight, it’s the keeping it off part that’s difficult. And that’s when you need a surgery with enough of a metabolic change to help you long term. I am 2.5 months out from my revision and I was so worried about the same thing, losing it only to regain again but I can already tell that there is more or a metabolic change. I mean I am exercising!! Me….everyday!! That never would’ve happened without this surgery. Healthy foods taste better and my mood has improved. I have tons of energy and motivation. I never got that with the sleeve. The bypass has been around for a very long time for good reason. For me the sleeve and SADI difference has been night and day. I think you will find a similar experience with your Bypass.

Good morning all! I am struggling. Surgery was 10/01 and I have been dealing with morning nausea. It sucks. I can’t really eat or drink anything till 10am ish and the through of protein shakes and yogurt 🤢. Please tell me I am not the only one experiencing this. It’s causing me to NOT hit my goals for water or protein. UGH

    Lapband to gastric bypass

it's very unusual for "normal" weight loss patients (that is, those of us who aren't the size of the folks on "My 600 lb Life") to lose that much weight (the 30 or 40 lbs you mentioned) the first month. I have been involved nationally - both on forums and at conferences - with WLS for years, and I've never known anyone to lose that kind of weight (maybe 30 lbs - but even those folks are outliers. Forty pounds? Never). Most of us lose somewhere in the 15-25 lb range that first month, so you are right where you need to be. I lost 17 lbs my first month, and I started out at well over 300 lbs. I went on to lose 235 lbs (have gained some of it back, as most people do, but I'm still over 200 lbs lighter at nine years post surgery). Your loss is absolutely normal.
