    An irksome week

Absolutely normal to experience stalls after surgery OP. We all have them - and I mean ALL. What matters is how we react to them. They can be demoralising, demotivating, de-everything!! I do see that you have included the words zombie, dissociated, automaton, emotional shock, shut down, apathetic, superficial and others - in just one post about a stall. I totally understand that this might result from an in depth knowledge of the psychology of weight loss, or just psychology generally. I do hope that you can focus on how well you have done (and will do!) and are having lots of support from wherever you can get it.

I work out and cook/bake. The cooking and baking is not a great outlet for everyone, I don't eat the baking and the cooking is new recipes that I can and want to eat. I have to get out of my head at times, I have issues with really bad negative self talk and it reflects how I treat my husband and kids. So I go for a run, or try a new recipe. Will have my daughter join me and we just talk and I teach her. But Exercise is the BEST, I will put in my airpods listen to some hype music and just go hard. I have never regretted a work out. If you just put on your shoes and get in your car, then your motivation will come.

    Canker sores

In my experience, they tend to happen more when you're stressed. I'd say surgery qualifies as a stressor. I like to either dab straight salt on them (burns), or rinse with salt water. Try to make sure you are getting plenty of rest and relaxation. Of course you can always bring it up with your doc.

    How long?

Ii haven’t had my revision yet but for the sleeve I was told about 6 weeks and I could do exercise. For the revision it’s a little more complex so at the skull part group meeting we were talking about fitness and I said that I needed to do core exercises and the PA said that 6 weeks was fine for them too and the surgeon was right there and didn’t correct him so I took that for myself as it means I’m pretty much cleared at that point for most things. I think they do say to wait a bit longer for weight lifting and one girl asked about roller derby 3.5 years ago. But outside full contact stuff and weights it seems to be 6 weeks that we are healed enough to be safe from outside stuff so I would imagine all swelling and stuff would be gone by then for sure.

I had my gastric bypass done in 2019, I had come across they unusual situation after the bypass surgery. Right after the surgery I was brought down to the ward where I was supposed to spend the night after the surgery. However, when the doctor told me to drink some water after the surgery I started vomiting and kept vomiting a lot and all that was coming out was red color kind of blood and all the toxic. The nursers informed the doctor about my situation and they found out that my stricture was opened up to the next thing you know I was again back into surgery ready open beyond that all the toxic was leaked ed into my other organs. After my second surgery I was knocked out unconscious and woke up after 2 months. It was quite rough for me because this situation is very rare it this kind of surgery. Yes for 4 months I was in bed in the hospital, due to that I had lost all my muscles in my lower body and I could not walk after that I had to have a lot of physiotherapy to help you get back walking that took another year. Well I had to go to all of that and right now I have a incisional hernia for which they said I would need another surgery however right now they cannot go thru because its quite complex and they are afraid of performing another surgery cost it's very complex and might cause under the leakage. I would like to use this platform to find answers how to solve my existing problem. I hope someone out there can help me get some answers.

My standard reply when people begin this cr*p is to say, ‘have I ever discussed my weight with you before? No? Well I’ll not be starting now’, because my weight is not your business’ . that shuts them up. If it’s a friend, I just change the subject, but if pushed they get told, with a smile, my weight is not their concern.

    July 2024 surgery buddies

Meh… It’s ok. Now that I have a date scheduled I’m really buckling down on everything to make sure the transition before and after surgery goes well. I’m trying to chart everything to keep track of things. 🙂 how are you doing?

The things people feel they have permission to say never ceases to amaze me... Fat phobia is deeply ingrained in our society. It is a sad thing because being fat is still seen as lazy or a morality issue instead of the medical issue it truly is. Just because we need support and sometimes surgery to deal with the weight doesn't mean it isn't a medical issue. People who are thin and have been thin all their lives can be really narrow minded about weight. They think they are incredibly self controlled and virtuous to maintain their weight, instead of realizing that most times it is luck of the draw... No one in my immediate family is as heavy as I am by any means, and in fact my sister barely touches 100 lbs. She's healthy, she's just naturally tiny. She's always been angry at the comments I get because she knows that she eats more food and more crap than I do, especially when we were younger, and yet she struggles to maintain weight and I can't keep it off. I adore her because she celebrates every win I have regarding my weight because she understands how hard it is. People can be biting to naturally tiny people too... My brother on the other hand is supportive but is very fat phobic. He gains 15 lbs and calls himself a fat ass and obsessively works out at the gym until he can get it off. He doesn't understand the struggle at all. I've been very open with everyone I know about the surgery because that's just how I live my life. Most are wildly supportive because they know how hard it has been for me... I'm sure a few silently judge me but they can keep their thoughts to themselves. I don't make space for their bullshit. The best way to deal with that crap is exactly what you did, to tell them to stop and show visible disgust. I react that way to other discrimination too, it is very useful for shutting down a conversation! LOL
