    Update! How is everyone?

Knew all these - watch too much American tv I think 😂. Don’t believe 3/4 of the Aussie slang people stereotypically think we use like I’ve never said gidday to anyone or called anyone a cobber (a friend). Most aren’t commonly used at all or haven’t really been in use for a long time. Many words are abbreviations or shortened forms of words - we’re great at doing that. Like cossie is short for swimming costume. In general, we’re more English in our vocabulary (& spelling). Except the young ones are adopting more & more Americanisms.

    An Up And Down Week

Stalls are literally the worst 😂 I am trying to keep that same mindset - once my body has recalibrated, it'll go back to losing, but the devil side of my brain is telling me: "weigh yourself after a bowel movement" 😂 Send help 💀

Dr is great but his team is Not.

I am talking about the two day liquid diet. And thats what the nutritionist said about the red looking like blood but in the book that the surgeons office gave me it lists all those usually red items like jello, popsicles and crystal light. Then the night before (doesn’t say what time) it says to switch to clear liquids. BUT when I called to clarify she basically described the clear one and said for the SADI that is for two days. I said well then I think I have the wrong book then, should I go there and get the other one. She said no thats the right book you just aren’t supposed to have all that. Well how in the heck am I supposed to know that? And what would happen if I wasn’t the type of person to ask? It just amazes me how lax they can be with this stuff. When it can easily be life or death if the surgeon thinks you did one thing when you were told to do another. They need to get it together. Anyways. I have an appointment with the NP now before the surgery so I will get the answer but it’s still frustrating to waste my time and money because of their incompetence. And I don’t mean incompetence like they are ignorant. I’ realize That the issue is that it’s a new surgery and I understand if they don’t know. What I am not okay with is them just making it up as they go along when it is my life we are taking about. Admitting when you don’t know something and then finding the answer is the real sign of competence.

this is more a response to what you said rather than the general focus of the post, but I just wanted to say that when I weighed 170ish and told my clinic's dietitian that I wanted to try to get down to 150 (which at 5'6" is within the normal BMI range), she told me that was a bit unrealistic because only about 10% of their patients make it to a normal BMI. The rest end up in the "overweight" or "stage 1 obese" (which is not very obese) categories. Research actually does back that up (I checked). I DID actually make it down to 150 - well actually down into the 130s. But at nine years out, I'm now slightly "overweight". But that's where they wanted and expected me to end up anyway, so I guess I'm OK with that (I'd still like to be around 150 +/- though - but it's hard to lose weight when you're pretty close to a normal BMI!

Well you really do have to lot your calories if you have not done that (and measure things- don’t just eyeball it (because you would be surprised how little the portions look that we actually need after years of feeding an obese body and don’t go by what others think because they are used to seeing you eat so much more so it’s just as much of an adjustment for them as it is for you BUT, if you have tied all that, don’t just give uP, you’ve still got options

    An Up And Down Week

I weigh myself everyday more or less, always have done when trying to lose weight. I can’t say I go off the rails when the scales don’t show me what I’m hoping for whereas I know other people may be adversely affected so it’s all down to personal choice. As to when I weigh - post-bathroom/pre-food & drink 🙂 I don’t think it really matters as long as you are consistent with when you weigh yourself. I’ve known of people weighing in the evening just before bed 🤷‍♀️ I think we all have our own little quirks and habits 😉

My advice to everyone is to first trial the GLP1 type drugs and see if it helps with weight loss. Maintaining the weight loss will be a lifetime commitment no doubt. But it's much better than having drastic bariatric surgery. Why change your anatomy if drugs can do the trick. So if your insurance covers weight loss medication, please consider that route first. Weight loss surgery does improve one's quality of life, but it has its fair share of drawbacks too.
