I recently had my sleeve 20 days ago and even though I am perfectly alright I just keep thinking about the leaks and if I will randomly just develop one and all the Google searches I made are not really helpful Do you know why a leak might occur and when can I be sure that I am out of risk for that and relax Are they common? Any information at all?

    WEIGHT LOSS SLOWING DOWN

we started out at about the same weight on the day of surgery. I just checked, and I'd lost 63 lbs at the fie month mark, but then, I had RNY - weight loss is usually a bit faster with that than it is with VSG (although you usually end up at the same place in the end). Two lbs a week isn't unusual once you get out that far. Honestly, I still drink a protein shake every day because I'm supposed to average 100 grams of protein a day (we discovered early on that I malabsorb it - so the usual 60-80 grams/day wasn't doing it for me). I could probably get that high from food alone, but I don't like to obsess all day about whether or not I'm going to meet my protein goal. I know I WILL meet it if I have a protein shake for my mid-morning snack. I know some dietitians and surgeons don't like people to stay on protein shakes for long, but I know a few people who hate eating breakfast whose dietitians told them to just have a protein shake for breakfast, then (so they're OK with it in some situations) - but opinions seem to vary among dietitians.

    May 2024 Surgery Buddies 😁

Hi, I'm having VSG surgery on May 15th. I'm not so much nervous but ready to have the surgery. I've read, watched videos and talked to friends who've had the surgery. Today is day one of my pre-op diet and I'm struggling. It's kicking my butt, only protein shakes, water, sugar free jello, sugar free Popsicles. Is anyone else on the struggle bus? I'm bringing very little to the hospital, light robe, sandals and a little skin care. I'm most anxious about the gas pain but I've had 3 c-sections and I walked an hour after each one so I know I can do it. I'm excited to begin this journey and get healthier for myself and my family. Wishing everyone the best of luck with the pre-op, recovery and healing. We can do it!

Omg this looks delish! I love me some bread and chips combo. I miss regular chips so much! I’ve only been having protein chips so far. Du remember how far out you started having regular chips?

I am counting from my highest ever weight on my tracker on this site (352), but my surgery team and primary care doctor count from my pre-op start weight (321). There's a 2 year and 30lb gap for me, but I'm counting that for me since it was work to break old habits during that period, which helped me set the pace to be more successful post surgery. As far as sticking to a plan, as others have mentioned, they do use average numbers. Everyone will fluctuate a little above or below at each stage. Also the weight loss progression will look more like stairs/steps rather than a straight line. You can expect a period of weight loss, followed by multiple plateaus. That's just your body freaking out over an unusual weight loss event, and recalibrating things to make sure you're not starving to death. Since it can't know you're doing it intentionally, it will retain fat and fluids as it panics, then release them once it realizes you are safe. Just stay the course, and don't get caught up on seeing a steady loss, otherwise you'll end up worrying over nothing (like I tend to do haha).

    belly size still big?

I’m not a doctor but a teacher who works with neurodivergent people. Many of the children walk on their toes and have “swayback.” It’s treatable with PT but NOT harmful so most places don’t treat it. It would take years, and would only help the appearance of the stomach. It doesn’t change the fat distribution, just helps lengthen the torso and help the walking gate, alleviates cramps in the legs too. I can’t diagnose you, it’s just a hunch about the swayback. There’s a PBS documentary called “The Faun” related to the intense body work involved. And, of course swayback can happen independently from any neurological issues! (I just find find neurological differences more interesting than us muggles lol.)

    Food Before and After Photos

lunch this afternoon....a giant piece of garlic toast (really should call it garlic LOAF, it was so thick!), with a side poached egg and a garden salad w/ sesame vinaigrette. ate 1/4 of the toast-loaf and probably 1/4 of the egg (i dipped the toast-loaf in it, so can't really gauge how much i ate if it) and all the salad. also had a sample (2 forkfuls) of the Kid's soufflé pancakes with some the the berry sauce (too sweet) and whipped cream (yum!) (and a mimosa beforehand, not shown ) guessing 400 cals for everything i ate.
