Second times a charm (I hope)
summerseeker and 2 others reacted to ShoppGirl for a post in a topic
I am currently three years post sleeve sitting ten pounds heavier than when I stared contemplating the SADI revision surgery. I am pretty hopeful and excited this time though. I am already eating better, exhaustively researching the procedure and the future diet. Finally I found a therapist that specializes in disordered eating near me who is taking new patients. It wouldn’t be possible without telehealth because she’s a couple hours away (something positive that came from COVID). Within 15 minutes tonight we discussed my mental health, medications, medical history, potential surgery, a change in the dietician and touched on some of my emotional eating concerns. She thinks she can help me and she asked me to think about it and talk it over with my current therapist and if we agree it’s a good idea she wants me to sign a release so that she and my therapist can work together. I feel so excited and hopeful that this is going to make all the difference this time. I am curious how long the process usually takes. I’m hoping I will have a pretty good idea of how much help I need and know whether I am ready to move forward by the time my surgery date rolls around. -
1 pointHi. I had gastric bypass Monday the 18th. I am doing well, walking a lot. Today I had a few sips of coffee and I also am having a few sips of a lobster bisque soup. Technically neither of these things are allowed but I just needed something more than broth and protein shakes. I am also having trouble getting 48+ oz a day of liquids in. I’ve been consistently getting 36-40 but after that 40 it’s so hard. i guess my question is.. am i harming myself by jumping ahead by a few days? I understand it’s best to listen to my doctor but i am just struggling to do anything and tasting something different seems to have helped HW 324 SW (before liquid diet) 324 CW 296

1 pointhiya @ShoppGirl! ive been reading all your posts about your decision making process on your decided SADI revision! i commend you for your quest in educating yourself around the whole thing. i realize im just a stranger on the internet with just a two cent opinion, but here it is anyway: from the sounds of it, your surgical team sounds ill-prepared to provide any meaningful assistance to you post surgery. at least not the kind of assistance it sounds like YOU are seeking. this may be a problem for you as i gather (from your posts) that you would greatly benefit from more structured guidance vs being left to your own devices. while posing your questions to a whole slew of strangers on the internet (i.e., us! lol) could definitely help, i feel like there are just too many variances in responses that can add unnecessary stress and confusion. would you consider having your procedure with an establishment who has more working knowledge with the SADI? while, in my opinion, a capable surgeon is a capable surgeon is a capable surgeon whose skill with a knife and needle is easily transferrable across procedures IF EVERYTHING GOES WELL (experience is golden when the unexpected arises) your surgeons seemingly lack of knowledge on SADI overall gives me pause. the fact that he/she seemingly isn't researching is at least half as much as YOU are also makes me go hmmmmmm. your dietician on the other hand is completely useless (though i have thoughts on hospital provided dieticians/nutritionists on the whole, which is beyond the scope of this post...but i digress...) with zero knowledge on how to advise SADI patients. personally i navigated my post surgery nutrition without the help on my nutritionist. i listened to her and told her what i was doing but i basically did my own thing by researching and reading (more medical journals vs anecdotal text) and doing good old personal data collection with trial end error. BUT that is just my nature AND there is a wealth of info on my sleeve out there. and while i didn't adhere to much of my NUTs recommendations, at least she HAD advice to give me. would you consider moving to a team with more (any!) experience with SADI and who are better equipped to guide u and answer your questions? you seem like a gentle-ish soul would benefit from a more hands on, knowledgeable team. of course you could also be a bee-yatch and i am waaaay off in my assessment of what i think you need from a team based on your posts! 😂😂😂😂😂 in which case please ignore the ramblings of this old woman hahahahha! BUT if i am even partly right, pls consider your choice of team and if u are setting yourself up for success (which u totally deserve) by aligning yourself with them. good luck! ❤️

Buyers Remorse?
SleeveToBypass2023 reacted to Aunty Mamo for a post in a topic
I saw the term, momentary "buyers remorse" on someone's thread the other day in reference to having bariatric surgery and last night I understood when I had a fatigue and anxiety melt down. I went back to school at age 48, once the majority of my kids were gone and I could spare the time. I take a full time course load, so my house gets deep cleaned now only during school breaks. This spring break I didn't expect to get much house and yard work accomplished, as I expected to be recovering from my sleeve surgery. But here I am, nine days after surgery and in the last days of spring break and I'm feeling great. My doc cleared me to do any physical activity that didn't hurt and I seem to have full energy, so I decided to go to work yesterday on a kitchen deep clean. From about 8 am until 11 pm (with breaks and liquid meals all day), I cleaned the fridge and pantry, scrubbed the oven, washed the microwave and toaster oven, dusted the tops of cupboards, washed drawer fronts and pulls, mopped- all of it. My kitchen looks like I just moved in. "Seemed" however is the operative word here. When I came up to go to bed, I was more exhausted than I've been in I don't know how long. And then, when I got a side stitch just off to the left of my tiny new stomach, I started to panic. I manage a somatic anxiety disorder and an attention deficit- and once in a while, particularly when I'm too tired, I have an epic storm that just has to run it's course. So, I paced around my bedroom hyperventilating for 20 minutes and rued my decision to have this surgery. All I could think is, "what have you done?!?" It was pretty awful. This morning I feel fine, aside from an emotional hangover, which is really just what the absence of adrenaline feels like after a panic attack. Other than that, I'm glad I had the surgery again. I'm going to do some light yard work today in between naps and offer myself a helluva lot more grace and leniency. And tomorrow, I'm going to have my first solid food (puree) that I've had in a couple of weeks. That first two tablespoon serving is going to be magical. -

Struggling to stop losing

It's not mean to say, "while I hear what you're saying, according to my medical doctors I'm right at the weight I should be and as he/she's a physician I respect their education and diagnosis but thank you for your concern!" -

Dang. That eliminates what I would say. I will say this, though. Did these same people tell you to your face you were "too fat" when you were obese and your weight was actively trying to shorten your lifespan? Or is it just your skinniness that worries them? Because you are right in the middle of a healthy weight range right now. You could drop to 125 lbs and STILL be 100% healthy and normal weight. So, if these people weren't telling you every day when you were 262 lbs how worried they were about your weight, I don't think I'd trust their judgement where weight is concerned. I'm not saying the comments don't come from a place of love, but they do seem to come from a place of ignorance. -

50 and over crowd?

I had my RNY procedure last January at 52. So far so good. 2 days in the hospital, I managed my pain at home with Tylenol instead of the hydrocodone I was given. No complications, I did have a bout of dumping when eating peanut butter for the first time post-surgery. I can tolerate it now. I lost a total of 85 pounds. I had a 3-week stall last March. I am off CPAP. My A1C is at 5.5 and I am feeling great. I love my new body. I am working on minimizing the scars with silicone scar and tretinoin via the advice of my dermatologist. My asthma is way under control so need for my maintenance inhaler. I feel that this was a reset in my life in many ways. I do Zumba, walk, and use dumbells to stay in shape. I make sure to stay hydrated per my surgeon's instructions. I follow my surgical team's advice to the letter. I'm just feeling blessed. Best of luck in your journey. -
