My surgery is scheduled for April 10! I both excited and nervous at the same time! Has anyone else experienced these feelings??

    Left side back pain

I had a banded plication turned into a gastric sleeve. Since then I've been experiencing at times spasm and pain in my back on my left side. I had imaging, spinal fusion and some epidural injections but nothing seems to really get rid of this pain. Was wondering if anyone has ever heard or experienced this and what can be done about this.

    February 2024 Surgery Buddies?

Hi there! I just had my surgery last Monday on February 19th! I am on day 8, and honestly, im starting to feel almost back to normal! Struggling with the fact that I can't eat anything other than soup and pudding despite being so so hungry. Everything has been going down really good. I have had no issues getting in protein. I have 3 premier protein shakes a day, which equals to 90g of protein. I just wish I could eat soft foods like mashed potato and eggs. But my nurse practitioner wants me to stay on the liquid diet for another 3 weeks. YEAH RIGHT, hahah im going to be introducing some foods next week I think. I can't wait any longer. I am so hungry! I hope you have a speedy recovery from surgery! If you need any advice or have any questions, I am always here for you!

    Protein shakes

Try isopure unflavored no carb. I purchased it at Harris teeter grocery store. It doesn’t add a flavor. 25g protein a scoop.

    February 2024 Surgery Buddies?

Good morning! Glad to hear you both are doing well. I had my surgery on Thursday and came home yesterday. They found a hiatal hernia during surgery and went ahead and repaired that so I got two for one. I am doing OK as long as I keep pain meds in me. I’m not sure if the hernia causes more pain or what but, swallowing really does hurt like right in between my breasts. It took me a good half hour to get my morning pills down one at a time. I slept in the recliner last night and got more sleep than I did the whole time in the hospital! I agree about not feeling hungry. That’s kind of weird considering we haven’t had food in a long time. It’s great to have you all on the same journey with me!

    February 2024 Surgery Buddies?

Surgery done on the 22nd and home recovering. No bumps yet. How are my fellow surgery buddies doing?

Thank you. I also took one gas x the night before and drank zero Gatorade with Mira lax the night before. The day of surgery I took another gas x and a sip of Gatorade with my morning pills. It is now day three since surgery and I am taking it slow, I have been drinking what I can in water and in broth and I have had decaf coffee in the morning. I also do the SF popsicles through the day too. I did try some SF jello yesterday and that sat okay so will have that done today to. I go the 26th for my post op appointment and see my nutritionist.

    My Story

Congratulations on your success. I could have written nearly everything you wrote. I, too, was extremely large man, though I had RNY and my surgery was open, so that was different. The first 2 or 3 weeks were the worst what with the huge incision, staples, and a drain that made the slightest movement a joy to behold. Like you, my pre-op stuff went without a hitch. Well, on the Lung function one where they put you in a booth and you do a bunch of deep breathing. Yeah, I couldn't fit into the booth. I was worried about the Psych test but apparently I fooled them completely. I likewise didn't have an exercise plan aside from the plan to not worry about exercise until I got to a svelte 100 pounds overweight. Walking is what I focused on. Once I got to 100 pounds overweight I had an exercise plan that didn't include a gym. I didn't really have any complications related to the RNY. I wanted the "complication" of dumping and lo! I dump on sugars and fats. Dumping has been a great educational tool for me. I have had issues with anemia but I had other issues that contribute to this, so the RNY just made it easier for me to get anemic. The non-scale victories are indeed the best. Being able to weigh on a home scale was a hoot. Congratulations again. Good luck, Tek
