    New to the group!

Hello guys! Just thought I would introduce myself! I'm Sonya and I am now officially on this beautiful weight loss journey. About a week ago i received my surgery date for lap band surgery after months of dietician and medical appointments; I am schedule for surgery Oct 18 and currently which is day one for me I'm on my pre-op liquid diet. I'm a bit nervous because this will be my first ever surgery. I would love some words of advice or encouragement because i am really freaking out a bit; especially when the my doctor explained a few things for the day of surgery when the procedure is all done. Thank you guys! I'm happy to be here!

    Sleeping on back

My program recommended a positioning wedge to make it easier to get in and out of bed. Also, lying flat can be extremely painful for some post-op and having that little angle makes it a million times more comfortable. They also warning lying on your side can cause pulling at your newly healing incisions and could be painful. I'm the over-prepared type, so I bought the stupidly expensive wedge and ohhhhh man was it worth it! It was a total game changer for me post-op. I was a side / tummy sleeper normally and having that little incline made lying on my back so much more comfortable. It also helped getting out of bed without using my stomach muscles too much. I'm farther out post-op now but I refuse to give up my wedge because it's more comfortable for me now.

I'm 8 weeks post surgery and I've been very back and forth on whether or not I regret it, but what gets me through it is remembering how hopeless and helpless I felt before the procedure. At least by having the surgery, it feels like I really tried. I know I couldn't do this any other way so the way I see it, f**k it, even if it fails at least I tried it all!

    6 months post op

This is the first time I’ve made a post on bariatric palsy. I normally just read things but today is really big day for me. I am six months postop. My highest weight was 250 pounds and I was 242 pounds at the day of surgery, as of this morning I am 198 pounds with a total weight loss of 52lbs and 44lbs surgery. I’ve lost 13 inches off my waist 10 inches off of my apron belly 12 inches off my hips and 7 inches off of my bust. I am currently in a women’s extra large down from a 3X I can fit larges now but they’re still a little too tight for my comfort. I have not been this small since I had my first child at 19 I was 150 pounds before I got pregnant with her. This is the smallest I’ve been in 10 years. It feels amazing but it also doesn’t feel real. I keep getting on the scale to double check if I’m imagining things, but it feels really good to come this far and have all the health changes that I’ve had.

@ShneeI have really taken a liking to the sugar free jello. If you can have that on your pre-op then get it. I found a brand called Raymundo's in the yogurt/pudding cold case at Walmart it is 12 for $3.33. Other wise I just drink GNC shakes with water or unsweetened almond or coconut milk. Since I already had the GNC one's on hand I thought this is a good way to finish them but I did by some pre-made premier protein cafe latte shakes that are not bad.

4 days post-op and feeling good. Walked a MILE today! Stopped to sit down very briefly halfway through and paused to stretch a couple of times. It took me almost 24 minutes, but I did it! My doctor allows sugar-free low carb Greek yogurt and sugar free nonfat pudding during this initial liquid diet stage. Today, I put sugar-free PBFit powder in vanilla Oikos Greek yogurt and it was amazing. I could not eat the whole container, but it's a 5.3 ounce container, so that makes sense! I am also enjoying the bariatric chicken soups for a little variety away from all the sweet flavors.

My surgery is Monday, October 9th, almost here, I'm scared, nervous, and excited. I know it's going to be a very long and difficult road, but I have to remember why I want and need to have this.

Well I had my sleeve yesterday. The camera/equipment for the laparoscopy nicked and artery and the had to open me up. I have an incision from bra line to panty line. Wow!
