My scale is slowing down again... so being a U Tube junkie, I found this 10 minute video that explains why what the scale says isn't that important. It's worth a watch ! She gives a good , simple explanation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2oBp1GuwMY

    Pain after surgery?

I did not have that feeling in stomach like you Nissi, but on 3rd night had some horrible pain when drinking. I stayed up one night no sleep just sipping & burping walking around getting up and down in chair was brutal. Lindsay advice might be best try warm liquids. Move around.

    Pain after surgery?

Awesome! I am 17 days out and have finally started getting some energy back because I'm now able to eat yogurt, thinned refried beans, hummus, and tuna.

Calories are always going to fluctuate a little anyway simply because you don’t eat the exact same foods every day. It’s why I focussed more on appropriate portions for what I ate & number & frequency of meals & snacks. I believe it always averages out. Like there’ll be days when you eat more protein & others when you’ll eat less. Same with fluids. Remember too though, your portions & calories are going to slowly increase as you progress until your weight stabilises & you’re in maintenance. I was told I would eat 1/4-1/3 cup from purée increasing to a cup at 6 months. You can always check with your team for additional guidance about what it appropriate for you at this stage. There are still days I can eat more than my appropriate portion or want an additional snacks. I tell myself I’m eating enough to meet my needs & if I want to eat more something else is going on (hormones, boredom, emotions, stress, etc.) & it’s not real hunger. Of course it took time to learn this. At times I still can’t eat all of my appropriate portion too. I’m simply not hungry, my tummy is being a bit odd or fussy, what I ate is sitting more heavily or is more dense, etc. I always believed it’s fine because I’m listening to my body which is more important.

    Exhaustion 2 months post surgery

Thank you both for these suggestions, I do recall at my 1 month followup that my hemoglobin was low, the surgeon said that she wasn't worried at that time but I think your suggestion for labs is very appropriate. I am allowed carbs I usually have a netzero tortilla but I will try the oatmeal. I am low on proteins, the surgeon did suggest 75 grams at this point, I will also work to get those in. Perhaps I will use some protein water to add some additional protein. I hope that you all have a great day, and thank you again for your suggestions and guidence.

    August 2023 Surgery Buddies!

Anyone having food dreams? I had my bypass on the 15th and I’m not hungry and don’t really care about food. But today I had this funny dream about my husband bringing me nachos and we both just forgot all the limitations. I ate some and then I freaked out because I thought it was going to cause some sort of catastrophe. I woke up laughing about it.

My journey til surgery was 5 months I didn’t see my surgeon until I had completed all requirements of Medicare. started March 31st had 4 weight ins at my pcp office, a psych eval, a dietitian eval. An orientation at the local hospital. And 2 support meetings. Within 30 days I needed full blood panel, and 2 years of medical history provided by my pcp and a letter of medical clearance. Met with Doctors team leader 1st.. then 5 days later meet with the Doctor on a Tues Aug 8th Asked if fast track was ok … why yes it is. Scheduled me for the following Thursday, August 17. started my liquid diet the next day. I was his last for the day because Medicare required me to stay overnight, everything went great. I’m a week out and started soft food today. Hw 219.5 / Sw 202 / Cw 195.5 / Gw 140 I’m almost 67 and 5’ 2.5”

    Weight loss before surgery

This is what I did to lose 30 lbs in 30 days before my surgery: I would have a protein shake for breakfast, another for lunch, and a hearty (ultra low carb) dinner. I started May 11th while I was still working (teacher), and kept at it until my surgery on June 19th. Altogether, I'd lost 32 lbs by the day of the surgery. The first 3-4 days are rough as you detox from carbs. By day 4, you should start to feel really good. Your mind is clear, your joints don't hurt as much, and your energy is up. You even get better sleep! A typical dinner while pre-op dieting would be 4-6 oz ribeye steak (cut up and dipped in A1) Or I would cut up 4-6 oz of rotisserie chicken and throw it into some cream of chicken or chicken broth. (Like chicken soup, if you will) I'd even eat a cheeseburger (without the bun, or course). If you have the space, eat a double! I'd been sleeved 14 years ago, so I still had restriction. My 16-year-old daughter was inspired and dieted a bit with me. She's doesn't have any type of bariatric surgery. She was losing up to 5 lbs a week just by cutting carbs. She would have bacon and eggs with cheese for brkfst, she'd have a shake for lunch cuz school, and she'd have hearty, no carb dinners as well. Detoxing from carbs REALLY helps. Drink 5-6 bottles of water a day. Have all the sugar-free jello and sugar-free popsicles you want. They're considered clear liquids. You can even start taking bariatric vitamins before your surgery to make sure your getting everything you need. Wish you the best of luck!

    compression stockings

You can buy them in shops like Amazon. These are my favorite ones https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0897RWF54/ The Zeta Plus Size Leg Sleeves. I wear them a lot when traveling and love that the foot is open so I can wear them with socks that actually fit in the foot, or sandals! LOL Every doctor has different opinions about wearing them and about abdominal binders. I find these comfortable but you need to be careful to measure and get the correct size. I like them but still look forward to taking them off at night to sleep!

Anyone taking ozempic after having surgery?

I don't know about Ozempic but your surgeon may be going by the recent studies that showed that starting WLS patients on pharmocologic agents after surgery stopped future weight gain. Studies show that half of the patients gain back a third of their weight back, and the medication prevented it. I think it's really up to the individual. I know for myself that I don't want to take any thing (not even "natural" otc appetite suppressants because then I would have to rely on it instead of figuring out the real reason behind me wanting to eat) but if my weight does creep up, I might consider it. I don't know. My fear of being over 300 lbs again has always been a good motivator.
