Thank you Kathy. For me food has always been about culture. My family would fry and add bacon to everything. We make a fresh vegetable and add bacon. Trick myself into thinking it was healthy cause it was a vegetable. I went shopping to prepare for my puréed stage and made sure to buy low sodium and salt alternative. I’m really committed to a lifestyle change. I know it won’t be easy because I’ve eaten unhealthy most of my life, but I’m willing to put in the work.

yep. my boobs went from droopy potato sacks to droopy EMPTY potato sacks, LOL. I did get a breast lift about a year after WLS and now i have perky 16-year old boobs that don't need bras to stay perky.

    August 2023 Surgery Buddies!

Hi All! I had sleeve surgery on Wed, 8/16, and am doing well. There is some pain from the incision were they pulled the stomach out, but the smaller incisions are not really bothersome. I took 2 slow walks around the block yesterday (helps avoid blood clot problems), which went well. I am definitely not up to big things, though and taking it slowly. My main bothersome thing is all the gas! Burping and bloating. I'm hoping the movement will help push this out, too. Last night I had my first non-clear protein drink (had been drinking Prem. Pro. Clear, in peach). I am taking all chewable and rapid dissolving vitamins, and am tolerating them all. I am taking Tylenol, ibuprofen and gabapentin for the pain, and that seems to be keeping it under control. Still, there are certain positions and activities that give me more discomfort - bending over is not good yet. Anyway, at 2 days post surgery, I think I am doing well. I am still having to remind myself to SIP fluids, as larger mouthfuls cause gas retribution. However, this is what I wanted - organic control over how much I ingest. I am sure this will work out, and all be worth it in the end. Good Luck to all! 🙂

    Reaching 64oz of fluids tips

Like @Arabesque I drink water throughout the night too. Every time I roll over or get up to pee. I also flavor it with herbal teas, just throw the bag in like sun tea. I make weekends special with fresh cut fruit or cucumbers in the water. I wouldn’t recommend the fruit or cukes until those foods are cleared. They may irritate the healing places. Early on, I made SF jello and popsicles, everything counts toward your liquid goal. I still love LS chicken bone broth warmed up! Early on, warm drinks were easier to get down.

    Feeling defeated

your surgeon should know better. Although I can relate - one of my early follow up appts was with a resident who pointed out I was behind where I needed to be. But he was just a stupid resident - he should have known better. I wish I could have seen his face once I'd lost over 200 lbs - 100% of my excess weight.

It is hard to hit fluid (& protein) goals at first but it does get easier. As long as you’re making an effort & getting closer it’s fine. Keep your drink beside you. I have water in my bedroom, on the kitchen best, on the coffee table by the tv, etc. so I just pick it up & sip wherever I am. I also found setting routines very helpful. Set a timer to help remind yourself to sip. Drink every time you do a certain thing. For example one I do is drink every time I get in or out of my car & at every traffic light. A friend to,d me recently she used to play the drinking babe in work meetings - sip every time someone said a particular word or words ( originally she said she sipped every time someone said something stupid but couldn’t keep up 🤣🤣🤣.) I also drink at night - every time I get in or out of bed I drink - it can be quite a lot because of all that peeing - lol! I also find it all balances out in the end. You may drink a little less today, but drink a little more tomorrow. Same with your eating. Don’t forget your soups & shakes count towards your fluid goals too. I used to dilute my shakes for more fluid & just kept sipping so no distinction between eating & drinking, All the best.
