Hi all, my name is Carrielee. I’m 32, from TN. I’ve been overweight/obese since childhood and the weight keeps piling on as well as the co-morbid diagnoses. I was finally referred to Bariatric surgery earlier this year after an Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension diagnosis and just finally scheduled my initial consult. I’m scared and anxious and overwhelmed and questioning things but also don’t want to die early and that’s where I’m headed with things as they are so it’s time for a change. At 5’1”, I currently weigh 298 pounds, putting me at a BMI of 56.3. I currently have Hypertension refractory to medications, Type II Diabetes, angina, high cholesterol and triglycerides, sleep apnea, arthritis in most joints, past history of pulmonary embolism, IIH, fatty liver disease, tachycardia. I’m on a fast track to early death due to obesity like my mom and grandfather faced and that isn’t what I want my reality to be. i considered it about a year ago and started the process for surgery to happen, but backed out, gained more weight and lost more health. I’m literally eating myself to death and it’s not what I want for myself.

    Question about (very) small regain

I have just hit maintenance but my long term plan is to allow a 5lb gain without freaking out (because of water weight and other factors) and then if I exceed that to go right back to basics - protein first, veg and fruit second, carbs a very last third - until I'm back to my previous weight. I have no idea yet whether or not this will help me maintain but I just thought I should share. Best of luck to you x

    Coffee, Starbucks?

I am a coffee addict, I literally drink coffee all day, everyday, so this was something I had to have in life...lol My drink at Starbucks right now is Venti Toasted Vanilla Shaken Espresso, only 3 pumps syrup and 2 extra shots. At home, I keep Stok cold brew on hand and will mix with my protein powder in the AM and then I use sugar free syrups or creamers. Coffeemate has a few good ones, like the sugar free Twix. But I really like the Silk Oatmeal Cookie Oat Milk Creamer, it's just not sugar free.

    Pre Op Dizziness 😵‍💫

Thanks so much for your reassurance! I'm feeling much better today so far, and I have a telehealth visit with my surgeon so I can let him know too.

I'm really glad to hear this. I've been really worried, but at least now I know the restriction will kick in with solid foods. People said that about the sleeve and it never happened for me, so I'm hoping it actually will with the bypass.

    10 years out From Sleeve

Soo. I started my weight loss journey over 10 years ago. I am 5'2" I had surgery and was, if I remember correctly about 320 pounds. (and I had lost weight before surgery..) I was 54 years old. I lost over 100 pounds. I got down to 180 pounds. I could never get lower than that. But my doctors were pleased and so was I. Over 10 years I managed to gain weight and this past July, got mad at myself when I realized I weighed 220 !!!! I told myself that I needed to reverse the trend, and get back to a healthier weight. My initial goal was to lose 10 pounds in a year. Well, I lost 10 pounds in 4 months and then lost another 12 in the last 4 months, and for the first time in about 6 years am just under that 200 pound weight at 198. ( I will claim those last 2 pounds ! ) I refuse to do any drastic dieting, just "going back to my sleeve eating." More protein, less carbs, more vegetables. occasional treats. Cut out the popcorn and chips which are my slider foods.... and although I really cannot exercise with my other physical issues, I am moving more and feeling better. I would be happy to be in the mid 190's for this coming July - but focusing more on making sure I don't backslide again.... I am posting because .... well, how do you explain to anyone that you have already lost over 140 pounds and gained back 40, and now have lost 20... 10 years later and it's all connected ? And at my age, no one really notices.... although I did go buy new jeans/slacks for work because darn it, I didn't keep the smaller clothing !!! Anyone else as far out as I am ? Having issues ? Getting back on track this late in the game ?
