    Post Surgery Depression

Oh boy can I relate. I keep saying on these forums that the metal aspect is the most difficult part of the surgery and the one I was least prepared. Bariatric teams can’t prepare you for it because everyone is so different. You are mourning food, specifically being able to eat it, like you did in the quantities, and the timings of the past. This was so hard for me. But it does get easier, just like your body healing physically, it heals mentally. Once you get back on solid food and your body gets used to the portion sizes. During the transition periods, I used that time to really search myself for the hold that food had on me. I spoke to counselors and my dietitians about it as well. Try to use this time to really understand what food meant to you and how it got you to where you were before surgery. Go to the picnic and observe the food and the way people eat it. I had a massive connection between happiness at gatherings and the quantity of food I ate. I came to realize this was an addiction. Once I started losing weight and healed, it was easier for me to see the damage that food had done. From there it became easier to be with others, eating at gatherings, parties, etc.. Hang in there it gets easier as long as you use the time to really, really address the mental issues that go along with the physical. Like wolfgirl states, reach out to your team to get any additional help you may need to get you through the stage.

The first few weeks (months) post-op are not at all indicative of what life with WLS is like. At this point, 16 mo post-op, I can eat and tolerate pretty much anything I want. The thing is, my tastes have changed so dramatically. I don't crave garbage food anymore. For breakfast, I used to eat chicken biscuits, fries, muffins, and other junk. This morning, I had a bowl of greek yogurt with banana, berries, and granola, and it was the most delicious thing ever. I could force feed myself the garbage breakfast, but I wouldn't enjoy it. Over time, you figure out your new anatomy and reshape your eating to accommodate it. Even now, almost a year and a half post-op, I'm still testing things out, seeing what works and what doesn't. That's the whole point of the surgery... to force you to make better choices.

I basically live in sports bras...if you want something that resembles a "normal bra" I would seek out styles labeled as minimizers because they offer a small amount of compression.

    Sleeve to Bypass for GERD

I had a full RNY revision from VSG due to reflux and a hiatal hernia and it really helped me! I wish I had just had the RNY from the start. So happy I had the revision!

Treating saggy skin on the face

i've had fillers: cheeks: 3-4 times (love it!) naso-labial: 2 times (second time i looked too puffy so didn't want to do that again) chin, under-eye: once each, didn't like the look. last time i did fillers (cheeks) was last october, and it's still very pleasing to me. i also do botox regularly, every 3-4 months, on my forehead & between my eyebrows. ...and i have botox on my masseter (jaw) muscles every 9-12 months. ...oh, and i tried botox on my neck once, but didn't see any significant improvement so didn't do it again. ----- Also tried 3 rounds of micro-needling on my neck, but again, deemed it not worth it so stopped. ---- If i wasn't such a historically BAD scar-er, i'd get a facelift today, but alas, I am. 😞

    Disappointed

honestly, weight loss is really more about the person vs the type of surgery. you as an individual will likely lose the same amount of weight no matter which wls you choose. do the best that you can and you will get where your effort will take you ❤️ for what it's worth, i had the sleeve and lost everything that i wanted to. and i believe i would've got to the same place eventually if i had bypass or ds or whatever**. **Edited to add: except maybe the lapband... P.S. hope all goes well with you from here in out ❤️

It will depend on a few different things but age is probably the biggest second only to budget. Is your face sagging or is it volume loss? For sagging only surgical methods really work to achieve the lifted tightened look. For volume loss you could use filler. If you’re young enough the non surgical treatments like RF may work to a degree (but not comparable to a facelift) but the older you are the less likely, and no one wants to waste money on things that don’t work. I’m sure you’ve seen a ton of videos but I think these are good at explaining the differences between different procedures. I hope it helps ❤️ BTW I don’t have sagging just loss of volume (thanks to WLS & COVID 🙄) And I’m doing biostimulators with a pro, manual microneedling at home and I have ALWAYS used retinoids.
