    Gaining weight

I had my consultation. No real diet plan but I’ve been trying on my own. Not working. My insurance company didn’t require weight loss before surgery but I’m not allowed to gain. Well I am up 15 lbs. help!!! I’m trying to diet and exercise. Can’t do much exercising because of back and leg pain issues. Retaining water. They ordered lasix. It’s not doing much. And just got done with steroids for the back and leg pain. I’m exhausted by the time I get home. I did go swimming last night and did aqua exercises. Just worried I can’t get this extra weight off. No surgery date yet. Have an endoscopy scheduled for July 11th and that’s my last requirement. Just nervous and stressed between the pain and the weight gain. Thanks for reading. Advice appreciated.

    Midwest Grateful

    Hello!

Hi there! I'm pretty new here as well. I appreciate being here, and it's a pleasure to meet you all. Yaya and Flowergirl, I can relate on a few levels. I join some of you in the grandparent category. I'd like to keep up with my little darlings and be here for them. I've been learning a lot from the seasoned group here and I'm grateful to those of you willing to stick around and share. I ruled out WLS 2+ years ago for, well, weight loss. But in January, liver disease and increasing health issues brought me back. If you would have told me a year ago I would have been motivated by health reasons I wouldn't have believed you. At age 62, it's time to act. I'm scheduled for sleeve surgery on July 27th. I wish you all well in your journey!

    traumatized by puréed

I never pureed any thing either. The thought does gross me out. I ate alot of Greek yogurt with unsweetened cocoa or with blended fruits, hummus with homemade cheese crisps, soft cheeses, cottage cheese with tajin seasoning (yum), tofu, nut butters, avocados... Etc

    Hello!

Hello! I am new here, so I am still finding my way. I had weight gain his me over the past 10+ yrs. like it came on overnight. And I've tried and tried to diet but I always fall back-to-back habits. I had an eye-opening moment where I thought to myself, "You don't really see a lot of overweight elderly people" and that thought hit me hard. I am 40 and much too young to feel this old! My joints ache, my ankles swell, my back hurts, I have high blood pressure, sleep apnea, GERD and anxiety out the wazoo. I am nowhere near ready to die, and I sort of had a "come to Jesus" moment with myself and knew I had to get serious about my weight and health. I have so much to live for and I don't plan on going anywhere any time soon!! I am a mother to a wonderful adult son. I have an amazing boyfriend and a family whom I love dearly. I love my job and have so many blessings that I don't want to take for granted. I keep telling myself "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels", and I know that has to be true. I have one more appointment with my PCP before I can be submitted for insurance approval, and then hopefully a surgery date!

    Bypass vs Sleeve

You had your surgery on the 7th? So not quite a week ago which is very early days. This is major surgery, so it can take a while for the pain to ease and we all heal at our own rate. I felt like I'd been hit by a bus for a good two weeks. Can't say if it would have been the same if I'd had a sleeve, but the Mini Gastric Bypass/ Omega Loop is a shorter operation than the RNY but still took me a while to recover.

I too could eat something one day and be sick with it the next. But at 9 weeks out I am finding it to happen less and less. Thankfully. I have revisited a few foods that made me quite ill before and seem to tolerate it well now. Like steak..eggs. Go figure. As for hunger mine left with the surgery, so I can't relate to being hungry and not able to eat. I really hope it doesn't return either. But that's wishful thinking. Protein is supposed to take the edge off your hunger so hoping you find something you can eat and tolerate to help you with that. Good luck!

Yes, seems common. A month or so ago, I posted on a reply post about how I was concerned about my AST and ALT were on the high side, and some on this thread and others responded that they had experienced something similar. It eased my mind a lot and later, my levels came down some.

    Face & wrinkles

OK. So here was my experience. But I do want to stress that this may or may not be the same for you or anyone else. During weight loss phase and a few months after I was in maintenance, I looked pretty haggard (and older). This was my own opinion, as well a as a select few who who had the balls enough to say to my face. There were likely others who thought the same way, but had the grace to not say so to me, lol. What i did find that in after a little bit more time into maintenance, i looked much, much less skeletor-ish, and I attribute that to as increase in carb consumption. And now, 3.5+ years out, i *think* I look younger than I actually am. Im 50 this year. Mind you I do think I look older than before I started the road to obesity, but that was like 15 years ago! I think alot of people who at first thought they looked pretty run down in the face after weight loss phase find that they start to fill out a little more as time goes on. You'll know when you know. Good Luck! ❤️
