I am 10 weeks post op and have only lost 20lbs. It’s so slow and I have been fighting cravings every day for the last six weeks. I started exercising, built muscle and the hunger set in. Today I caved, had some sugar free candies and a slice of medium ham/pineapple pizza (no crust) and a half cup of Fairlife chocolate milk. I ended with 77 carbs!! Normally I try to keep it below 40. I’m sitting here and I feel like there’s this little disordered eating voice in my body laughing at me like “muahaha! Today we regain control of you! It’s only a matter of time before we stop this train and back it up!” I can literally sense my body storing fat. Okay not literally… but it feels that way. im about to hit my first big milestone once I go under 180 and I wonder if I’m self sabotaging? Do I really think I deserve this? What if I’m one of the statistics that doesn’t lose their weight? Ugh I’m so scared that I’m going to mess this up. Please tell me I’m not alone? Does anyone ever feel this way? 😢

Am I The Only One Percent?

I am so sorry. To feel so bad without answers is disheartening and scary. I can imagine the fusing of your stomach sleeve and gall bladder could cause severe constriction and complications. It sounds like your gall bladder surgery was recent. Your body is still healing from the repeated surgical assaults over the past six months and your sleeve needs "rest and relaxation" from being stretched and contorted from the stress and contortion of being stretched by the gall bladder fusion. Be gentle with yourself. I hope things start improving for you. Please keep us posted on your progress. **Hugs**

Struggling… the evil voice is back.

I am a firm believer that food addiction is just like most others. With that in mind, having a slice of pizza is like “It’s just one little shot of tequila” for an alcoholic. One leads to two…and so one. I am also a firm believer that this is the main reason people gain back weight or completely fail after Bariatric surgery. It’s a constant struggle. Keeping that perspective, one slice of pizza is not worth it. I’m not perfect and will fail at times but keeping the above perspective helps to ensure I will be successful in the long run. If I tell myself that one slice is fine, I will soon convince myself that so is two.

    Happy with your dietician?

Go back to your team & ask (demand) more support & guidelines & to see a dietician again. You may need regular appointments with the dietician for a little while until you feel more confident & comfortable about what you have to do & are doing in regards to your food choices & eating. You shouldn’t have to do this alone. All the best.

But I want to believe that my facial/neck skin will snap back as if I was just like a teenage girl.... hahaaha! Nah... I'm a realist. And glad to hear that the needling is working for you. I still haven't heard back from my Bariatric team on the safety of using the infrared sauna or the RLT at 7 weeks. 🤔

    Happy with your dietician?

I have been so lucky with my dieticians. Right from the get go, pre surgery, I was given their mobile numbers for questions. They have done everything I needed them to. I have another 6 months of care with them and I will miss them checking in with me. I really do believe you deserve and need a good team behind you because all this is new and takes some getting used too. I needed so much help and plenty of advice early on. If your dietician is not up to the job then I believe you need to tell your surgeon because you need the best and he/ she may not know that they are not up to the mark

    Hospital Stay/Exercise Must Haves

I agree, you wont need much. I took my own toiletries & changed into my own pjs - made me feel better. I was glad I threw in extra pjs & knickers though (you can experience very sudden diarrhoea - unpleasant). Different surgeons will have different advice & restrictions in regards to activity post surgery & when you can begin more strenuous activity, usually everyone is told to walk - gentle slow walks as you’re able (a couple of short walks every day even just around your home your yard is a good place to begin). Remember you will have restrictions on how much you can carry (lift, pull, etc.) in the first couple of weeks while you are healing. Check with them before embarking on an exercise program. Oh, those surgical gowns can be thin too. I’ll never forget the man wearing his gown sunning himself in front of the windows in the ward lounge area without a care in the world. The sun was highlighting everything under the gown & believe me when I say he was only wearing his hospital gown. 😱. all the best.
