    Any April Surgery Dates?

My gastric bypass was performed on Tues. April 4th. The procedure lasted 4 hrs since the doc was repairing a hiatal hernia at the same time. I was 2 hrs. in recovery so my fam was starting to get worried by 6PM despite the hourly updates. No complications. Pain was minimal. No nausea, vomiting or gas pain. Dry mouth from hell. Sipped water day 1. Walked a lap and up another time to use bathroom. Surprised they didn't walk me more. b4 going home. Day 2 . Tolerated meals well. Tried a little of everything they brought me. Discharged me that afternoon. Felt more pain at home. Mostly pulling on incisions as I bent over, stood or tried turning over in bed. Sipping on prescribed Hydrocod helps for pain. Walking on my treadmill every couple hrs for 5 minutes to prevent clots. Drinking my protein drinks and water for now till appetite returns. Not weighing till after inflammation goes down. Overall...so far so good. Pain lessens each day. Praying for a speedy recovery for all of you this month!!!

    Huge stall, binge eating

I hope you can find help OP. I think (know!) the surgical restriction helps a lot but we also need to address our underlying issues with food while we have that restriction in order to keep our weight off in the longer term. If you can connect with a bariatric therapist asap to check what you're doing that you shouldn't be that might be a good first step. I wish you ALL the luck xxx We're here to help if we can.

I was fortunate as I had a friend who had undergone the surgery & then another did it the next year. Their friendship & support was very helpful. I also made some lovely friends through this forum too. We’re of a similar age, share interests, had our initial surgery within a couple of years of each other. We chat & share what’s happening in our lives (& not just weight related) via our own private group chat now & there is another with whom I email. So you never know who you may meet & click with here.

    Conflicting Instructions

this is a lot to unpack, but one thing I wanted to mention is that most people lose their sense of hunger for up to a year, so that is not unusual. Mine came back at five months out, and honestly, even though it was weird to get used to, I wish I'd been one of the small minority whose hunger never comes back. It was so much easier to stick to my plan and lose weight when I was never hungry and didn't give a flying flip about food. I actually found it pretty liberating after awhile. you won't start feeling restriction until you're on solid food. Purees and fluids go through your stomach pretty fast. As far as hunger and fullness signals, again, if you're like most of us, you're going to lose your sense of hunger for a few months - up to a year. And when those signals return, they might be different than before. I don't feel "full" the way I did pre-surgery. It's hard to describe, but when I start feeling pressure in my chest, I know it's time to stop eating or I'm going to be sorry. Some people have even weirder signals, like sneezing or a runny nose.

It is raining heavily almost everyday here and my trusty "big guy" umbrella broke. Then I remembered that I had a smaller foldable umbrella that fits nicely in my bag. I started using it without any issues. The last time I used it, it won't cover my whole body and I had to choose which side or my body to get wet haha. My body diameter has shrunken for sure.

    Food Boredom

I gained 100lbs in recovery for an bulimia so I mean this just isn’t true.  You speak about weight gain, and consumption as a compulsion and love affair as if they are inherently the same things and they just aren’t. No one calls alcoholism a love affair with booze, nor is a love affair with food is not inherently the same thing as binge eating disorder or the compulsive eating, addictive behaviors you describe. That’s not love that’s disordered eating and to many people who experience it it feels more like a prison than a romance. Further there are plenty of reasons people gain weight or struggle to lose not limited to medical issues or life long yo-yo dieting socialized in people since childhood resulting in an insurmountably low bmr. It also ignores the idea of a body’s set weight which numerous medical studies have pointed to as a valid hypothesis and part of why wls is one of the only weight loss tools with long term sustainable success. Let’s try to be sensitive that everyone’s story and struggle respect their own personal reflections of it.
