    Huge stall, binge eating

I hope you can find help OP. I think (know!) the surgical restriction helps a lot but we also need to address our underlying issues with food while we have that restriction in order to keep our weight off in the longer term. If you can connect with a bariatric therapist asap to check what you're doing that you shouldn't be that might be a good first step. I wish you ALL the luck xxx We're here to help if we can.

    Any April Surgery Dates?

My gastric bypass was performed on Tues. April 4th. The procedure lasted 4 hrs since the doc was repairing a hiatal hernia at the same time. I was 2 hrs. in recovery so my fam was starting to get worried by 6PM despite the hourly updates. No complications. Pain was minimal. No nausea, vomiting or gas pain. Dry mouth from hell. Sipped water day 1. Walked a lap and up another time to use bathroom. Surprised they didn't walk me more. b4 going home. Day 2 . Tolerated meals well. Tried a little of everything they brought me. Discharged me that afternoon. Felt more pain at home. Mostly pulling on incisions as I bent over, stood or tried turning over in bed. Sipping on prescribed Hydrocod helps for pain. Walking on my treadmill every couple hrs for 5 minutes to prevent clots. Drinking my protein drinks and water for now till appetite returns. Not weighing till after inflammation goes down. Overall...so far so good. Pain lessens each day. Praying for a speedy recovery for all of you this month!!!

    Afraid to eat.

I have to have my foods with some kind of sauce in order for them to go down well. I would try adding sauces to make things more moist. This might help some. That being said, it did take me longer than my plan dictated to move from one texture food to another, so I agree with Sigh that you could also go back a stage for another few days/week to see if that helps your progress. Edit to add: my favorite sauce is a pan gravy where I use a broth or stock to deglaze and just pour that over what I eat.

great input from all of you- thank you! I’ll lean heavy on the protein shakes and do veggie dinners. I appreciate the reminder that it’s connected to the surgeon’s ability to do their job with best outcome…team effort. Thank you again…

    Gas pain recommendations!

The surgical gas is in your abdominal cavity not in your digestive system (not inside your tummy or intestines). Burping, farting & gas X won’t work. The gas rises & sits behind your lungs putting pressure on nerves causing the upper body & shoulder pain. It is absorbed into your lungs where it breathed out. Walking, marching on the spot, pumping your arms up & down forces the gas up & out (because you breath more heavily with the physical activity). Slow & deep breathing exercises can help too. It usually takes about a week for it to fully dissipate

    Looking for Easy Protein Snacks

I like getting a high protein nonfat Greek yogurt (I use fage nonfat), putting in some organic unsweetened cocoa (I use Cocoavia cardio health), and mixing in sugar free maple syrup (I use Maple Grove farms no sugar syrup) to sweeten it. Tastes so good. I wish I knew about this recipe when I was in the puree stage but I just recently found it somewhere on the net. I don't even remember where.

    Looking for Easy Protein Snacks

Honestly if you can stay away from ultra processed foods then do - forever! In emergencies we all need to grab the least bad option but for every day if you can get tubs full of proper home cooked from scratch food that you can eat throughout the day lined up, then I think that's preferable. At the minute I have in the fridge: leftover roast dinner from today (one cup servings) x 2, fish pie from yesterday x 1 and spag bol from the day before x 1. I do these up on a rolling basis depending on what I'm cooking for my family. I eat two leftover things late morning and early afternoon and then cook today's thing for dinner - that then makes me leftovers for the following days.

I keep my pantry and fridge full of grab and go options! Any low sugar Greek yogurt (I like siggis, two good, oikos triple zero), two good smoothies, bel gioso individual cheeses, cottage cheese cups, individual nut packs, whisps, chomps, hilo chips, egg bites, protein one bars. I always keep a pack of protein shakes in my trunk for emergencies!

My advice is to eat slowly, and listen to your body. Soft foods feels way different than liquids going down. You will probably be full after 3 teaspoons of food. So take it slow, and stop as soon as you feel restriction. I remember those days of taking just one more bite, and regretting it. There were even a few times, where I had food in my mouth when restriction hit suddenly, and I would discreetly spit it out into a napkin b/c I knew if I swallowed it, I would be in tremendous pain. Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
