    Omg my surgery is tomorrow

Hey guys I'm back with my day 2 post op. Right out of surgery I was out of it I slept the whole day but I did make sure I walked a little and sip on sum water. I haven't had my full liquids yesterday just water but I will start my full liquid diet today at 8 am. There was no pain It was all gas once you let the gas out your good to go. I did experience nausea twice due to the gas pain but nothing too serious. To everyone going for your surgery soon you'll be okay. My birthday is March 26th hopefully I get to have a little bit of fun [emoji4]. Thanks to everyone for the support. Sent from my moto g power (2022) using BariatricPal mobile app

    Alternative to milk of magnesia?

On the scale of things that taste gross, I agree that milk of magnesia is gross, though the cherry is tolerable. Now, compared to what my Thiamine vitamin smells like, milk of magnesia smells heavenly...ha, ha.

    Alternative to milk of magnesia?

I had my bypass almost eight years ago and never had a problem absorbing Miralax. And sleevers don't have absorption issues, so it wouldn't be a problem for them, either. So....??? as for milk of magnesia, I usually get the cherry-flavored version. I think I've seen mint-flavored, too. If the Phillip's brand doesn't have it in flavors, the generic brands that most places carry (like CVS or Walgreens) do come in flavors.

I'd be curious to know why they are saying Miralax is not an option as many, many WLS patients use it with success at the recommendation of their surgeons. I've never heard of there being an absorption issue. Personally, I've found using Just Better Fiber works very well for me. I add a few tablespoons into my coffee/water/whatever and sip it all day long. On the very rare occasion I need something "stronger" I use Miralax.

Ha! No. I often wonder why certain people were singled or coupled and honestly there’s no rhyme or reason to it. However, romance films suggest that your soulmate is probably trying to find you but your schedules are opposite, live in a different part of the world or don’t speak the same language.

I was at my high weight back in 2008 so it's been awhile since I got questions but when asked how I stay so small, I just say what I have been doing since 2008. Calorie deficit and tracking is what works for me. No one wants to hear that so they never bother me again. lol I guess they want to hear a fad diet or a magic pill.

Technically, they should not even be asking in a professional environment. But, tell them an old gypsy touched your cheek and whispered “thinner”. Then walk away. That’s sure to get a laugh.

    Am I weird?

This made me think about my own decision not to share my surgery with anyone that didn't have a "need to know". Virtually everyone I work with has never actually seen me in person, only via zoom, since we almost all work remotely. I didn't tell anyone, even my boss that I was having weight loss surgery. Quarterly, my larger team (50-60 folks) gets together in person now, but I've put off traveling for these meetings for most of the year. I used my significant hearing loss as the main rationale. I do have a significant challenge hearing in crowded rooms due to my hearing loss, so it's absolutely an issue. If I'm honest with myself though, I put off going mostly because I was ashamed of my weight. I also knew that after surgery, I'd be closer to a "normal" weight and while some might notice a difference between "video" me and "in person" me, I figured it won't be nearly as noticeable for most folks. Anyway, mid-December, I'm finally planning to go to the quarterly get together. Fair or not, I know 2 things are true, and I made the choices I did based on this: Being obese carries a significant stigma that we are lazy, have no self-control, are morally bankrupt, are unattractive, etc. I've seen and felt this personally and its impact on promotions and work assignments. No one will ever admit to feeling this way or letting it impact business decisions, but it happens consciously or not. (I digress here a bit, but if you doubt this is real, look at the C-suite in any major corporation and one consistent theme is that it's exceptionally rare to see someone that's even overweight, much less obese.) Many people think that WLS is the easy way out, so don't associate weight lost this way as "redeeming ourselves" for the laziness and lack of self-control. In effect, only if you lose weight "naturally", are you proven "worthy" again. Frankly it sucks that these attitudes are so prevalent, but they are. I made the choices I did because I don't need anyone at work judging me or my motivations. As someone else said, I did this to save my life. We should be celebrating it. Instead, it's just more stigmatizing.
