    Struggling to envision weight loss

I had lots of mini goals, I didn't want to disappoint myself, go off track and sabotage myself like I always did. In reality, I am unable to sabotage myself unless I eat around my plan. I try not to. My initial goal was to be healthier. Tick. Then to pass in a crowd. Without stares. Tick Next to go in any shop to buy clothes or shoes because I never have. Tick My latest one is Onderland and its taking its time to get there. I don't hold much store in comparing my former self with clothes sizes because they have changed to be bigger in my life time

3 months post op and I'm done.

When I went to my 6 week post op consultation ,I happened to sit in close proximity to a woman who had also had the Gastric Sleeve .She thought she looked wonderful - I thought she looked terminally ill ."I'm nearly at my wedding weight " she said proudly .I smiled and said nothing .She was the opposite of how I wanted to look .Her hair was thin and lack lustre , her skin sagging and dull .I listened in horror as she explained she was still trying to lose weight .I thought she summed up the very look I never wanted to have .Her slimness did nothing to inspire me .So I am 3 months post op .I can now walk freely , breathe better ,and I fit into my favourite jeans .I am not at my ideal BMI but if I don't lose further weight ,I'll be content .I eat more healthily and do more . So I suppose that is my story and I'm happy with it .

    Not sure about the sleeve

Regardless of which procedure you decide on, this is a lifestyle change. If you don't already have one I suggest talking to a mental health professional before scheduling your big day. I was leaning towards a bypass, but my doctors shared with me that the bypass comes with a lot more risk, and that for the types of medications I take, a sleeve would be best. I am now 3 days post-op and while I used to have a severe sweet tooth, I can honestly say that it's been difficult to choke down some of these protein shakes because they're simply TOO sweet. This is a big change, and I hope that you can find a comfortable place emotionally/mentally to pick a date. Good luck!

THIS exactly… I also don’t want to set a goal too low, even though I believe in the power of “stretch” goals. When it comes to my weight, I’ve tried and failed so many times that failing a goal after having a surgery like this feels almost unacceptable if you know what I mean.

Great topic! I've been thinking about this too. I heard the surgeon say that people can remember how small they were in their wedding day, or in high school, and I was like "nope!" I vaguely remember doing weight watchers in high school and getting to around 158, and when I got married my wedding dress was a 14 and I was excited it wasn't a 16 (probably around 185). So trying to imagine life, imagine my body and perception of self at 140-150 is just very strange. I think I'd be pretty psyched to maintain around 160... I also don't want to self-sabotage, but there is absolutely no frame of reference and I'm afraid to set too low of a goal and fail. It's tough!

I know this doesn’t answer your question directly but, are you doing much strength training? Adding muscle is a sure fire way to increase your daily caloric burn rate. We inevitably lose muscle during the weight loss phase and adding some of it back will facilitate further weight loss if that’s what you are interested in.

    Low On Iron

if adding more iron supplements doesn't work (and they don't for everyone), they may suggest an infusion. That'll do the trick if nothing else does.

    Low Energy Levels after bypass?

You have to remember it isn't minor surgery it is MAJOR surgery. Healing is way more complex than the few incisions you see on your stomach so don't be down on yourself if you need rest to heal. Listen to your body and it will guide you on what you need. Me personally, I haven't been able to sleep at night but I am an oddity. Then yesterday I randomly slept 20 out of 24 hours? Who even knows [emoji38]. I had my surgery on 2/14 btw. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

I’d probably ring the surgeon’s office to be sure. There may be a concern over the congestion restricting your breathing during the surgery or in the first days post surgery. If they do delay it may only be for a few days. The surgery is fairly major & you do want to be in your best health possible even if it is just a cold.
