Go back to your surgeon & demand, if you have to, help. There must be a reason for your pain. Ask for an ultra sound, X-ray, &/or a scope. Some pain is to be expected after surgery but not four weeks out. The odd twinge, yes, but not pain like you’re describing. Gas pain is usually gone or almost fully gone after a week. Surgical gas rises so it can escape through the lungs. It settles behind the lungs & puts pressure on the phrenic nerve causing shoulder pain. Some people talk about an occasional shooting abdominal pain which is often caused by internal sutures or muscles pulls & strains. I’m wondering blockage, gall stone, …. Excess stomach acid can cause sharp cutting pain - are you on a prescription PPI? Hope you get an answer soon. Don’t worry too much if you’re not exactly meeting goals to begin. As long as you’re close you’ll be okay. It can be a struggle at first but your pain will be hindering your ability to reach goal as well.

I will never understand this bizarre notion people seem to have that an "easy way out" for weight loss is a bad thing even if it did exist. Like... why does it need to be a struggle to be ok? Do we need weight loss to be some epic f***ing crawl across a flaming desert of despair to be acceptable to people who aren't involved? Does my head in. Makes me inclined to answer "my own hard work" when asked how I lost so much weight. It's not anyone's business anyway. Also: you look AMAZING! Seriously. And that top you're wearing is gorgeous on you!

if you've been following your clinic's recommendations, then it's likely water retention from the IV fluids. That's basically salt water, and a lot of people retain that. There are some people on here who've even weighed 10 lbs more when they left the hospital than when they arrived! It can take a week or occasionally longer to work its way out of your system. stick to your plan and the weight will come off. Everyone is different due to different factors, many of which you have little to no control over (like age, gender, starting BMI, metabolic level, how much weight you lost prior to surgery, etc). The two things you DO have control over is how closely you stick to your plan and your activity level. If you do well with those, the weight will come off, whether fast or slow. also, the 20 lb loss you said you think you should have lost in the first two weeks - banish that thought. If you started out at 600+ lbs, then yes - maybe - but for us more "normal" WLS patients, losing 20 lbs in two weeks just doesn't happen. Most of us lose somewhere in the 15-25 lb range the first MONTH. Yes of course you will find people who've lost more or less than that the first month, but they're outliers. You're probably doing just fine. Give it more time and remember to stick to your plan! I thought i was a terribly slow loser - and I WAS a bit behind others with similar statistics (starting weight, etc), but I ended up losing over 200 lbs.

So I'm almost 2 yrs post RNY. I'm constantly pooping no matter what I eat. I was told it was normal because it started right after surgery but it will not go away. Have any of you experienced anything like this? It's not diarrhea, but I go several times a day. I don't eat beef, pork or fried foods, nor any other greasy food. I'm wondering if it's IBS or EPI. I'll be calling my Dr. Monday, I'm sure I need to see a GI Dr.

I had the Vertical Gastric Sleeve on January 23rd, and beside a bit of nausea from the anesthesia the first few days I was doing relatively well for the first 2 weeks. That all changed drastically on week 3 and now week 4. I can come nowhere near the amount of protein or liquids or calories my Dr. wants me to consume daily. The reason being that Thursday of week 3 I began having excruciating pain in my lower abdomen and back and it starts within minutes of taking a sip of anything... It feels like someone is taking my mid-section and wringing it out like a wet cloth... It truly will take my breath away when it is happening... I also had to go back from creamy liquids to just clear liquids and that is very disheartening. On the plus side, I don't have any vomiting (YET), but this other pain is truly making my life miserable... I also, have severe pain in my left shoulder and I have seen in other posts that can be from gas that is trapped there... I have had 2 C-sections and numerous other surgeries, including a gallbladder removal in the past and THIS has to be by far the absolute worst pain that I have ever experienced in my life... Also, my Dr. did order labs on Monday of this week (week 4) and a swallow test and that did show that there was a bit of an issue with the angle of my esophagus to my stomach, but he wasn't overly concerned and put me on protonix... Nothing has changed... Is there anyone out there that has had these same symptoms that can possibly give me any hope that this won't last forever? I am literally in tears every night because I am regretting this decision... Even though I have been successful with weight loss so far... What is weight loss if I feel like death??? Any information or advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Surgery Shaming Should Be A Thing…

I’m telling NO one- flying off one weekend and coming back alone to start the hard work. I may say something like im working with a doctor… but that’s it. People can suck it. It’s my business alone.

    Passport

I just got back . Surgery was in Tijuana. No passport was needed. I was picked up at the airport and dropped off 3 days later. They went through the medical line.

    Fibromyalgia and bariatric surgery

I have fibro. I haven't had a flare (that I'm aware of), since my surgery. I know that correlation doesn't equal causation, so it's hard to say if they're related.
