Not even sips but it's natural from the beginning. Meaning that physically in the beginning, you'll eat so little that any additional water will make you feel uncomfortable anyway. Before you know it, it becomes habit. It still makes me so uncomfortable that even now I wait over an hour after I eat before drinking anything. I understand your concerns about vitamins too. If you hate swallowing pills, many of us have been using patches successfully. You'll have to see what works best for you. In the end, the weightloss will be worth with it and you will see how very little you eat, and will want to keep your body healthy by taking supplements. For months, I ate less than 800 calories. Even years later, many of us still do not eat enough to be well nourished. I totally get the fast food with our significant others as a bond but it is totally doable. My mister doesn't care what I order but I think he feels more comfortable as long as I order something. So let's say Taco bell ... I order a side of black beans with onions (50 cal). I don't think it is what I eat but that I have a meal with him regardless what it is. IF he ever insisted on me eating what I used to eat, then there is something really wrong with the relationship in the first place.

During post op, all liquids counted as liquid. So, even my protein shakes were also counted towards my fluids. I made sure everything I drank had protein except plain water. Once I went on to actual foods it got harder but I worked out a plan that worked for me, but it was non stop drinking and eating, at least it felt that way. haha I woke up, drank 8 oz milk (protein and fluids) then a bottle of water, then ate something, then a bottle of water, then ate something, then a protein drink (gatorade zero with protein was my go to) then another water. It is easier now, but at first it was a chore. I am still/always allowed to count my shakes towards my fluids but I don't anymore and still drink at least 80 oz a day and of usually just plain water. I LOVE and have always been a HUGE water drinker so it is easy for me. I can also drink "normal" now. Some people struggle so you just have to find what works for you. You got this!

not all surgeons say you can't have coffee or tea. Some are fine with it. No consensus at all on this issue..

I am in the middle of the two week liquid pre-op so there will be no thanksgiving eating for me but I am going focus on what I am thankful for and enjoy my liquid diet. Its only one day, I keep telling myself that over and over LOL

    Unflavored Protein

The dietition at the weight loss center recommended isopure unflavored protein powder. I went and got it right away. When I went into GNC i told the girl that i was looking for unflavored protein powder and that i was in pre-op for gastric sleeve. Before I could tell her what he dietition recommended she said I will show you the one everybody seems to like and she came back with the isopure. I tried it with unsweet tea and it was great to not have the sweetness. I couldn't hardly stomach another sweet protein shake yuck! So I will experimenting with some other liquids. I am on day 8 of 14 pre-op. I cannot wait until next Monday which is surgery day!

I am no veteran but when I find myself in group settings with lots of food I just go for the protein first and maybe a bite or 2 of something else. I try to eye ball a few ounces of the proteins and just stop eating when I get the slightest bit of full. (I am pretty good at eyeballing, I eyeball then weigh at home to keep myself tested. lol) So far this process has worked for me. Good luck, you can do it.

    Head Hunger vs Actual Hunger

There is someone in my weekly support group that mentioned he is -never- hungry but has cravings. I asked him how that feels & he mentioned that to him cravings are always mental & are are two completely different sensations to him. I wish I could explain it the way he did, but to him it's like 2 different emotions. In the same way how one day you're happy & sometimes you're excited. Similar sensations but with their differences. Drilling that into my thoughts has helped me recognize the difference!

    Regrets ?

My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner! WLS has changed my life and the lives of my family, as I'm a better mother and wife as a result of being healthy!
