    Holiday, Family, and Recovery

For what it is worth, I thought I would share my experience. I had my sleeve Aug. 4. The next week I was walking around the neighborhood, and my family took me on short trips here and there (mall, Costco, etc.). The following week (10 day mark) I was taking short trips on my own, and started working from home. The next week, at the nineteen-day mark, I went back to work at the office. The biggest challenge for me was fatigue, followed by mild pain and discomfort, particularly on bumpy roads. I and others recognize that everyone recovers differently, but hopefully this helps you. The biggest piece of advice I could offer, is to listen attentively to your body. When you are tired, it is good to rest. Rest early and often enough so you don't get worn out.

    Food not digesting in pouch

in addition to what kcuster83 said (which I agree with), stomachs don't "churn" nearly as much after surgery than they did before....so it's doubly important to chew things really well before swallowing. So that could be another factor (although I agree with the dryness of chicken - lots of people have issues with chicken the first few weeks or months because of that)

Have you had chicken before? Some people struggle with it. May have been too dry too?

So, when I was first talking to my nutritionist I had already been logging all my food into MyFitnessPal for around a year. And I've always had a problem with low body temp, brittle hair and nails, exhaustion, and high body weight set point. She tested for the standard TSH, T3, T4, Vitamin D, retook the standard ha1c, LH, FSH, cortisol, and something else I don't remember. It was quite a few vials. My intake was typically around 1200 kcal-1600 kcal. And I workout a lot. I typically spend 2 hours weight training on odd days and cardio on even days. And I had a symptom for when I eat I get super cold and my hands feel freezing. Hope that helps you also know what to ask an endocrinologist. That's at least what was afflicting me. For me I ended up having pretty high TSH (upper range teetering on over) and incredibly low T3 and T4. Sent from my M2007J3SY using BariatricPal mobile app

Are you feeling tired all the time?

I use a Vitamin B12 patch and collagen patch each day and I am going to try the sleep patches next. I just need to get on a schedule. I'm glad you are finding something that works for you.

    over preparing??

I have bought a RIDICULOUS amount of food containers to help with food prep and storage - that is, when I get to that stage! 😂 I found some really cute 80ml brown glass jars on amazon which I already love and will hopefully make my tuna puree feel much more like a trendy shoreditch hipster cafe experience. If I have to only eat a couple mouthfuls of fishy paste for a meal, I want to do it in STYLE!

Scared to go through with surgery

Bariatric surgery is a major step, so I don't blame you for being scared. I just wanted to reach out and validate your feelings. I was scared, too, which is why I chose a non-surgical option (Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty). It is not yet covered by insurance so it is not as popular, but in my experience thus far and per the medical literature it is safe & effective. Maybe ESG is something to keep in mind for later, if you still need a "tool" in the form of a sleeve. But I would wait until your weight stabilizes after the meds, exercise, and new healthy eating habits are established. FWIW, I do not think your PCP is fat phobic. Obesity is a serious health risk, the older and the bigger you get. No one sees this more than a diligent PCP. Mine is 100% in favor of my new tool because she is the one who has been prescribing all my meds for hypertension and pre-diabetes, referring me to specialists, etc. I am just glad you went to see an endocrinologist and found a medical reason for your obesity. In case no one else has said it lately, great job!! Even with new meds, losing that much weight is an accomplishment. I agree with the other suggestions here re: strength training and all. Best wishes to you.

    John’s Story - 3.5 years out

Thank you for this OP! I used to play competitive sport and stopping that but continuing to eat as I had before definitely contributed to my weight gain, as did so many lifestyle changes. So glad to hear your story and I only hope I can get there some day too. 💪

Congrats on your success and thanks for sharing! Though I never played any sports at your level, I was very active when younger until sidelined by a serious injury. Continuing to eat like I needed to when i was burning through 5-6k calories a day had a pretty detrimental impact on my health. Glad you finally found something that worked for you!
