Hi all! I’ve been reading a few posts here and there from folks who are many years out from surgery and now I am curious too: how much of a portion in one meal are other RNYers able to eat? I’m 9 years post-op. Some days vary. Usually, I notice more that my appetite is still lower. However, I’m able to eat, say, a small turkey wrap and a small side dish, and not feel much restriction. The last time I felt stuffed was unintentional: I ate too many raw baby carrots and was miserable for hours! So basically, have others noticed with meals that over time, the restricted feeling that was so common in the beginning, just isn’t there as much?

    I tried real food

I rarely eat enough to get to my restriction. A 4 ounce can of tuna does not get me there but any more than that and it will hurt and be uncomfortable. Just eat what your teams tells you to eat, no more and no less. You will develop habits that are way more important than the physical restriction. Again, I rarely if ever reach the restriction. It is working for me since I have lost over 100 pounds and my BMI is almost in the normal range now.

Are you supposed to be eating solids? Sometimes if the nerves haven't fully healed you still don't have full feeling and don't know you're full yet. Just eat the servings you are supposed to and stick with it. You don't want to over eat. You can contact your team and/or Nutritionist to see if they have some suggestions also.

I could barely eat anything a month out. I always felt full, even when drinking a shake. Now (almost 6 months) it kind of depends on the food. Sometimes I seem to be able to eat way more than other times.

On the right track seeing a psychiatrist. Looks like you need another distractions outside of baseball. I am a huge sports fan as well and I know the feeling when your team lets you down. Since my surgery I am really into bicycle riding which helps with my anxiety and gets my head in the right space, not to mention makes me trimmer and in better shape all around.

    Food

Just stick with it. Eat what you can and try again in a couple hours to get in what you need for nutrition reasons. This gets better, it really does.

A little off balance when walking

I slouch too and I said the same thing. My giant belly isn't holding me up anymore. I find myself pushing to sit up straight but I usually don't notice it till my back starts hurting.

    August 4 Surgery

Hi All, I am new to this forum and glad I found it. I just had surgery in August. Since I started 1 1/2 years ago I have lost a total of 55 lbs. 36 lb was right after surgery.

    October surgery friends??

@Meganatorthat's awesome!!! I've lost 80 total since March 2021, surgery was October and since then I have lost 66. 12# to goal for me, but I feel like you. See what my body does. Weight loss has slowed considerably but I'm feeling great. Not sure if size 10 pants will be where I get-it was a wish but 12s are fitting pretty well most of the time so that's good with me! Health is improved and hope to continue. Congratulations to you!

    Weight Loss

I call those "whooshes". You aren't losing for a while, or losing your normal 1-2 lbs a week, then WHOOSH. 4 pounds It happens. Although I haven't had a whoosh in a while
