I just had an episode that I initially thought was morning sickness but now I’m wondering if it was actually more like dumping. We stopped for ice cream and I ate a little bit - really not much, then 30 minutes later started sweating, became extremely nauseous and eventually threw up in the toilet. It wasn’t until my tummy started also rumbling that I considered it may be dumping. I’m getting my morning sickness at night - around this time so it could be both but I just thought that was interesting that they both converged as a possibility at the same time. Who knows.

    Phase 2 diet

I don't know what your phase 2 diet is, as post op diets and progressions vary all over the map, but things like tuna salad and flakey fish were on our initial diet out of the hospital, so it is unlikely to have done any harm if you aren't feeling anything bad going on. We had a lot of freedom to move between liquids, mushies and soft things at will that first month, with the general rule being to try things one at a time to test for tolerance and if something didn't settle right, then skip that for a couple weeks and try it again. Some programs, on the other hand, are very cookie cutter and hold everyone back to the lowest common denominator so that no one has a "bad" experience, other than being on a liquid diet a lot longer than necessary for them. If you aren't feeling bad, I wouldn't bother calling, but I would 'fess up to the doc when you see them next, let them know that you goofed and didn't feel bad, and didn't do it again. This is feedback that they can use, as often they don't really know how fast they can progress their diets - I have seen some come through here saying that their doc advanced them ahead of the published schedule, and when asked why, they were told that they had found patients cheating on the diet and not suffering from it, so they advanced the progression, and the guidebook will be updated next time they print some.

    Phase 2 diet

I would try not to worry too much. I misinterpreted my instructions and ate pasta sooner than I was supposed to and of course it could have caused and issue but it didn’t. You may want to call your team to just ask what to watch for In terms of if you did do any damage but what’s done is done. Obviously don’t risk it again but try to relax cause freaking out won’t help anything.

I second the binder recommendation. Binders help to reduce discomfort when you have to move or walk. Check with your team, oftentimes they put one on in the OR right after surgery. You'll only need it for a couple weeks probably at most, so if they provide one, you won't need to buy one. Also a heating pad is helpful for the surgery gas that is used to insulfflate your abdomen, and when it travels from your abdomen, up to your back and neck. (Walking often helps to move the gas out of your system too.) A tracking app like Baritastic or My Fitness Pal to track your fluids and protein is a big help also. I know some people set alarms on their phones to remind them to drink every 15 minutes. Best wishes!

    Vitamins

Make an appointment with your surgeon so they can order vitamin study labs to see where your levels are now, and then they can advise you what supplements you need.

Thank you! This was helpful, reminding me to listen to my body and stick to the basics. I’m hoping once I get to purées and have more Whole Foods to work with some of the problems resolve them selves. I was over my protein goal Friday and about 15 oz short on my water. Today I was over on my water about 20 grams short on my protein. I definitely need to make hydration the top priority, protein my next and not worry quite so much about calories.

    Post Op: Struggling a little

I'm 3 weeks out and still have that. I talked to my Dr and he said that it was very normal to have a ton of energy 1 day and then none the next. He said it's because the body is healing.
